After about 90 minutes of waiting for a non-robotic response, I finally got a real human reply from Support. The guy confirmed that I was hacked by someone in Germany. Other than that, I have nothing else to share. I thought you guys might like to know...
*sigh* Now to change my password. This is going to be super fun... *sigh*

Well, let's hope it's only one person. There are probably many more people who have been hacked but don't post here....Ah, what is Anet going to do about this?
Also, from my previous post, for anyone trying to change their password.
1)You click on reset password on guild wars page. Will ask for your account name which is your GW email address (most likely).
2)Then it brings you to the NCplay page which asks for your account name and password. This is different from your GW name and password (doesn't explain that, and you just assume they want your GW name and pw- I went around in circles). If you don't have an account with NC you have to create.
3)Then you need to click on Game Accounts - which for me only contains one account - GW.
4)Then you click on the GW account and it will give you choices of what to change. You can change your password pretty easily then.
5) Be prepared for a very sloooow website. It takes forever for pages to load.
I feel bad for those who have had so much stolen from them. This would ruin the game for me. Those thieves are parasites, who feed off the work and labor of others.

There is a very small chance you will get hacked if you follow 3 basic rules:
1. Update. Use the Windows-Auto-Update to get the newest fixes always; keep your browser up-to-date; update Flash (actual version is 9.0.124) - this is the easiest way to get mallicious code on your sys atm; use NoScript for Firefox or similar add-ons for your favourite browser (Opera has all this stuff aswell out-of-the-box) - and keep your other plugins up-to-date aswell
2. Don't work with admin-permissions. Just don't do it. If you have Vista don't disable UAC - this is a great thing to make you system more secure and there is a reason why MS has it activated by default. If you have XP work with a normal user-account. GW has absolutly no problems with that. Reason behind all that is simple: If your browser get compromised by evil stuff, the evil stuff (tm) will only have the same rights as yourself, which means it can't hijack your system.
3. Be smart. Don't install software you can't really thrust. Don't click on stuff you have not asked for. Don't use weak passwords or the same password for everything. I have several passwords/emailaccs for 3 basic levels: Sites I just visit to post (like this forum), my personal-communication stuff like ICQ, MSN, Jabber etc. or games like GW and then diverse passwords for my system stuff, like normal-user login, admin accounts, my WLAN & router etc. - and they all vary even on those levels. (let's say i have 'achja34-h' for spam and vary the last char, 'okl26fgh;23' for stuff like ICQ and vary the last numbers and 'dio2;82Oe-sd2' and vary the last 3 chars)
There are of course some things you can do to improve all this, tough - Personal Firewall are not really necessary and Anti-Virus-Programs will just let you know that something bad already happened - which means in most cases: Delete everything and setup your stuff again. There is no way you can really get rid of bad stuff for 100% once the sh!t has hit you.
For your password-issue contact the NCSoft-support as has been said already.
I hope this helps also some others aswell and all after all it can't be repeated too much. Don't make it too easy for people who just want to catch blind fishes. Sorry for my bad english & Greatings.

That's only people that have made a bad thread about it so far.
Sorry, but these are pointless threads, we can't help you. If you're not looking for help/compensation then it's good I guess.

wow, all these people getting hacked? who did you guys piss off? start googling GW account hacks to see if there is a new program or something to inform us about wtf is going on. This is making me wonder.
I'm not too worried since I don't keep high end crap on my account, I dont even have any plat farmed yet.
It could have something to do with the old pop up adds that we got when loggin in to GWG. Here's hoping it gets figured out!

I got a response from PlayNC this afternoon and they were able to trace it.
"Hello Paul,
I have researched the issue and there was another IP address that accessed your account from Germany. I have terminated all the accounts that your items have moved though in an effort to prevent this from happening again. "
So apparantly someone in Germany has been screwing around here.... They also included in the e-mail on how to protect your account, etc... but yeah, already knew that crap.
Atleast that dude is gone, but a damn shame I can't get my things back.....

Ummm... because we happen to be the largest GW site out there??? It's not a conspiracy Age, it's just where people go to post. I'm pretty sure that if we were to tally up all the "I got hacked" posts out there across all the GW fansites that we'd probably have the majority of them. I also really doubt you can read French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Russian, etc. etc. to know if it wasn't posted on any other GW fansite.
It might be helpful, though I don't think anet would do this, to tell us how many accounts were affected, the method they believe they were compromised by, or if they can indeed find out this information at all.

I know my internet security is extremely up-to-date and that my internet behavior is not risky (don't visit gold sellers etc.) and that my password was strong and only known to me. To be frank, if I can be hacked, then anyone can.
Hacking gaming accounts is big business, grossing a lot of $$$. So is it so hard to believe that some crackers who do this for a living all day every day are able to stay ahead of the curve? Lets be honest, security holes are often plugged AFTER something happen to alert to their existence. (GG mallyx cheat).
(And yes, my account is linked to PlayNC)
|
I just want to say most antivirus software does not detect some keyloggers.
Alot of websites have bad security (which hackers will crack Example: playNC website which has had security problems in the past) and all you have to do is click on a banner or a picture to unknowningly download spyware/malware/malicous software/keyloggers.
Alot of free antivirus software is very easy to get around, but the large antivirus makers are large targets for hackers.
In no way shape or form can you be 100% sure that you are safe all you can do is ensure the max security from what you use.
A antivirus alone is not enough
A firewall alone is not enough.
A popup blocker/spam blocker alone is not enough
A Malware/spyware blocker alone is not enough.
Email protection alone is not enough.
Personal information must be protected- Id theft is very high and will only become more of a problem with the advancment of todays technology.
The problem with most people is they only have 1 or 2 of these and think they are all right. (it does not help that most of those programs do cost a little to much for a all in one package)
If they do it all day every day and never get cought how would one even find out???
Remember this some people are very smart and not all of them are decent.

Yet another hack!
What is the matter with people atm?
This hackwave is bugging me.
I've been hacked 5 times in the last 3 weeks due to having the inability to change my PW, maybe i'm not trying hard enough, but PlayNC shouldn't be such damn idiots.
Lost so far:
86 Ecto
9 Obsidian Shards
100k gold.
200k+ worth of assorted gold weapons.
Tormented Earth Staff.
2 White Dyes.
2 Black Dyes.
6 Elite Tomes.
5-7 Lockpicks.
Elite Kurzick Armor dyed Black.
200 Party Items.
Still got the rest of my armor, that's hidden from the buggar.
Just glad he hasn't disbanded EMP and deleted all my characters.
Can anyone help me out on changing my account details please?
I've tried:
'Change Password' option, says they'll send me an e-mail with new PW. No e-mail came through, been 2 weeks now.
Contacting PlayNC. They're bloody useless...... Just got an automated reply with a bunch of different FAQ links...
I went to put in my Product Keys & my NF & EotN ones were invalid apparently
My login ISN'T a [email protected]' login, it's a standard e-mail address.
My account is 21 months old.
I haven't purchased anything off of the PlayNC sight thing.
I am pretty sure I have all my account keys, only found 2 of them so far, but I'm sure I will be able to find the rest.
My first campaign was Factions.
That's all the information I have...
Please please help me because it's really getting on my nerves now...
Thanks in advance for your help & replies.

We had the same problem. PlayNC is so vague on how to change your password. We ended up having to send them an e-mail with everything we knew of the account (ie game keys and such). But they were extremely reluctant to let us change the password since we only had 2/3 keys (missing the prophecies).
Do they seriously think that someone would go to someone elses house and still the retail key to claim their account? Please. It took 4 days of continuous e-mails to finally get it changed.
Apparently the "key" they reffer to, isn't the actuall campaign keys. It's a key which they assign to you from who knows where (at least what I got out of it).
Try to do what we did - contact them and explain your problem.
I'll try to post a section of the e-mail explaining this better later on.
Good luck.

Seriously hope this doesn't happen to me, I don't have my keys (well on paper) ATM since I'm nowhere near home and I don't usually bother bringing my GW keys since the account is playable anywhere...
I think, however, they need a new system to change passwords, once that doesn't require hours of going in circles.
And they need to figure out why so many accounts are being hacked and if it could be to a possible leak of info, god knows how... I don't think a guy would spend hours trying to force-crack accounts for ectos and black dyes.

to the guy that got hacked 5 times in 3 weeks.. all i can say is... you reap what you sow. the only way you get hacked that much in a short time is
due to third party programs adn/or buyin online gold.
I have played for 3 years never once used a third party program. never once bought gold. NEVER ONCE BEEN HACKED.Try playing legit! you wont have these problems.

Had same problem, not able to change pw, just a few days ago. The real problem was that I had purchased something from igshop and made a PlayNC account doing that. I sent some support ticket to NCSoft, they asked me to send some account details (creation dates, game serials (and pics of them), names, days of birth etc.). I sent all these and they asked me to send a photograph of my id card. Send one and they gave my PlayNC account name. So i was able to change my pw. Took maybe 2 days from the first support ticket.
Edit. I think the PlayNC account system is way too difficult, but tbh i was happy with supports actions. They answered to me in matter of minutes when i updated the support ticket.
