By the way, what is so bad about the standard WoH Monk? Granted, I don't like the build exactly as it's posted, but as a starting point it seems good enough.
|
Because WoH is terrible as a healing prayers elite. You are basically wasting your elite slot on a cheap Heal Other when you could be using an even cheaper Heal Party that heals for more overall.

I have some builds of my own and some builds inspired from Wiki. I go there sometimes to see what kind of builds are going on. It can be well thought sometimes, combos i'll never think off. I try them and if I like it, i'll modify some skills or attribute points. I think that it would be too easy to use a build as it's written. Everyone plays differently and as such you should adapt it to you.

Of course I use PVXWiki builds. I may not stick with the build, but I'll certainly try it. I'm not such an idiot that I refuse to learn from other people.
I'm a very good cook. That doesn't mean I don't consult recipe books or chat with other people who cook to get their ideas and input.

Exactly!
There seems to be a bit of an anti wiki vibe to this thread. But I bet most of you have used a template your guildie or mate has given you? It's exactly the same thing. How many of these "original builds" have you had to put up with in PUGS! Just because its a unique build, certainly doesnt make it a good one. Likewise just because its on wiki doesnt make it bad. It's just a resource...USE IT!

The pvx.wiki is a good source of mediocre builds. I tend to check it for ideas when starting to play around with a class I'm clueless about. It's also a good way to get ideas for builds that favor the 2ndary.
It's also a good source for morons who think there's 1 good build for every class and promote that idea in groups. It makes them feel less incompetent I think.

Cba to go into the specific reasons, but...
- Healing Prayers are pretty shoddy as a whole. Kiss, Gift and LoD is about as good as it gets, the rest is crap.
- Sup Healing Prayers rune is lol-worthy.
- No condition removal as standard is very much fail.
- Rebirth. OK if you/the team is stupid, otherwise bleh.
- WoH is a pretty poor elite in and of itself.
- It suggests Breeze as an optional skill. lawl
... etc.

Wiki builds for GvG which have a higher stamp of approval are good. In most cases they reflect bars which are standardly run by good teams. The reason they get run is that they have shown themselves to be effective. As such if your faced with a choice of using a bar which you think is cool and a standard e-surge bar from wiki for example, then you are probably better off running the wiki bar.
I don't know about pve bars there.

You are all beautiful snowflakes. Your builds are supreme, as is your skill in GW. 99% of the posters in this threads seem to think so. As if it would be dishonorable to use PvXWiki as a source of inspiration.
Most people do not take the build 1:1 but change according to their preferences anyways, you can count on that.
If you think PvXWiki builds suck, no wonder, they have been made and elected by the GW players community. Even a mediocre build can serve as a source of inspiration, show you new ways of thinking or whatever. Maybe people should get over this attitude that is rampant in GW.
