This sounds like the same thing that happened to me a couple years back when i first got guild wars.
Anet will not be able to help you recover ANY lost items or deleted chars. They will only be able to reset your password and send it to you after you have somehow given them a copy of your serial number by fax or other means. Sorry for your loss but all you can do is start again or quit.

Seriously now, why are people trying to find out if he's lying about his statements? What's the benefit of making a thread and fabricating events that didn't actually happen? There is nothing to lose by being genuinely sorry for the guy without making retarded accusations even if you think this is fake for some reason.
So, is this Shiela Erinborough pretty much the guy who hacked your account? Please send this information to support for everyone's sake if you haven't already.
Sorry about your loss. Hope you can recover from this soon enough.

Looks like the hacker left some traces, as this string of messages was emailed to me by PlayNC soft.... yes... I am shocked myself, but this fictitious person pretended to be me and requested a password and all the info they needed on me... YES, the people who gave this hacker my account information was the developers of Guild Wars itself....
I did not contact PlayNC or GW at the said dates....yet they freely gave all the information THIS HACKER needed to infiltrate my account. I am extremely shocked and disappointed at this show of incompetency. If this is how EASY it is to hack someone's account, heck you can just target any of those people displaying their mini Kanaxai's in Kamadan, ask for PlayNC for their password and claim you forgot the password and all the necessary info... Everyone in the Guild Wars community should be notified of this incompetence on the part of Guild Wars Tech Support. You may be the next victim.
------------------------------------------------
Hello Guild Wars Account Support Team/PlayNC team,
I have been a victim of account hacking and I have already filed a complain under a different email: [email protected]. Numerous items and a character worth 8-12 million, and I have spent on for a good 1 year, or 3700 + hours (in-game currency) was deleted. I was pm'd in Guild Wars by anonymous temporary accounts threatening and mocking me for the loss I had. People told me: "it happens, and nothing can be done about it." I was about to let this incident pass but now that this information has come to my attention I can't let it pass.
When I opened my email account, I found this message (consisting of back & forth interaction between the hacker & PlayNC) from PlayNC that was emailed to me. If I am not mistaken, from the looks of this message, PlayNC or Guildwars Account Support HANDED ALL MY ACCOUNT INFORMATION TO THIS HACKER ON A SILVER PLATTER... I want a DETAILED information and explanation from whoever is responsible for this, I want some form of apology, I want some form of compensation for what happened as it is clear that your agency/organization/team was to blame for releasing my information to this hacker. For you guys, this may just be a game and nothing serious, but for serious gamers like me, for me to be ROBBED (of inggame currency and items) and then your characters Deleted is SEVERELY FRUSTRATING and knowing that the people, who were supposed to protect you from hacking, account theft and fraud, be the MAIN accomplices to the crime REALLY REALLY REALLY PISSES me off...

PS... if you want to look at the specifics on this, and have an idea of how much I have lost, http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10291906... It must shock the whole Guild Wars community that the ones responsible for their accounts being hacked might be the organization itself.

I requested a password reset about 3 days ago and would like to know how long will the process take? (No... I DID NOT REQUEST A PASSWORD RESET 3 Days AGO, I did however request a reset on my PLAYNC account as soon as I found out I was hacked, I reset my PlayNC, My GW Game Account and My email PASSWORD)

Uhh... did the guy answer all those questions they asked him correctly? About the physical address, the credit card, and others? Because then wow, you should be less worried about GW and more worried about someone stealing your identity and screwing with real parts of your life.

so this officially has become a criminal case. pretending to be someone else online .... and inflicting harm /stealing the person's property, identity theft?

I was confused as shit trying to read that string, but just figured out that it goes upwards from the bottom.
I'm not sure if you can put anything on Anet. I mean, what happened to you clearly sucks, but there probably isn't much Anet can do if the guy gave them pretty much all the private information they could ever ask for. You should still push for a compensation though although I hear their policy doesn't necessarily bend that way.
I initially though he must have had a keylogger but it's strange that he didn't simply type in your password to steal the account and instead went through all that trouble instead. You should really look into this. Looking for a keylogger program in your system would be the best idea, imo.

So, not only has Anet abandoned GW1 content wise... but now they've abandoned the security?
This is pretty ridiculous now.

well, that was a question mark and was a question, sarcasm at the wrong place at the wrong time rofl.
I also found the answer, it can be a criminal case under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

I cannot really follow how this happened.
As people already said, they ask a lot of shit not even the real account owner knows immediately, like the last 4 digits of the credit card or the key you created GW with.
I wonder how this guy managed to pretend to be you and get all your account info from support.
I think you should contact Gaile on the Wiki, but I am afraid your char is gone forever regardless of the result!
BTW: Regarding Ecto-Farming, you did not use this ECTO-BOT program that was sold on some "player service" sites and ebay, didn't you? Then you can look for a keylogger there.
If you are a honest person, I apologize.
Often people just leave out the dirty things they did that are the simple explanation of strange account hacks that nobody can explain how they cold have happened.

- I would hope that people would finally realize this. Your thousands of hours of work can be both done and undone with a single click of mouse. They have no value in objective sense.
Sorry for your loss.
