"Ping build k?"
So lately i found a lot of puggers want your monk to have a HB build directly copied from wiki without any room for creativity.Failure to deliver will get you "OMG NUB'"'d and kicked. So what i do is pinging the cookie cutter build to them and then quickly change it into the build i feel like using. Not surprisingly, the mindless ursans don't even notice i have replaced healing seed with spotless mind and gliph of lesser energy with divine spirit for DoA.
So: Do you guys do this as well?

GoLE > Divine Spirit by the way. Divine Spirit is bad under most circumstances.
As for Healing Seed, yeah it sucks.

Unless you have 16 DF/13HP and a 20% enchant staff (to make seed of life even more godly) and only use Heal party when needed instead of spamming it.

People run 16 Divine Favour for it? Wow that's bad. And besides, GoLE = free heals unless it's 15+ energy, in which it will only cost 5+ energy.
And as far as energy management goes, nothing compares to GoLE except for a few things that are only for other professions.
Channeling is only most decent for places like HA.

Right. Nevermind the mobs of 8 enemies you'll frequently see in PvE...
Channeling is great for any caster in PvE.

No, i just use my own build because i like to have a style of my own instead of being identical to every other monk in the game. That's what i like about the giant spellbook of GW after all.

Casters in PvE shouldn't be right next to the enemy, thus Channeling isn't as efficient in PvE.

I don't know about you but on my necro I rarely have more than 2-3 ennemies on my backline.
That's if the frontline failed to keep aggro on them (kinda-tanking purpose)
I prefer them to be away from squishies but hey that's just me.
You either have lots of ennemies on you, and need the energy, or you don't, and you don't need energy.
Rather ironic.
on topic:
I ping the bar they want me to run, then switch out the bad skills for better ones. I don't mind playing with some less efficient skills anyway, most of the people asking you to run HB are ursans, and there isn't much to do other than push bars up on a big armored ally.

I didn't know non-ursan monk tanking was the new meta. GoLE > Channeling in PvE.

i think monks should be replaced by healing potions in GW2. this is one of the many things diablo 2 did right =)
on a serious note...
those cookie cutter builds make people happy because an inexperienced monk can pick it up and heal decently as long as they understand the game somewhat. until there is a way to prove experience, people in pugs prefer the build that is proven to be solid.
i agree, other builds can be better, but this one is a catch-all (minus condition and hex removal, which is nice to have)

I'd rather use one of the strongest energy management skills in the game over a sub-par one that is only up ~90% of the time.

I usually ping whatever bar, then I change it to what will work for the area. Most people don't notice since their red bars stay up ^^
Also, I use GoLE more often then channeling, since my monk doesn't leroy into mobs...

Can't argue with everyone's reply, but I do like to equip channeling in mob heavy areas as an 'emergency' countermeasure. The way I see it the more enemies that are close to me, the more energy I'll probably need to keep myself and fellow casters alive - it's usually the case. Probably not fully worth the skill slot it takes up but oh well, makes me comfy in iffy situations.

i ask to ping, but usally if there any variation oh HB, as long as it has [Healer's Boon][Seed of Life][Healing Seed][Heal Party] + whatever else thrown in, I won't say anything, and I'll be happy to have found a prospectively competent monk. Of course, in a few situations, seeds are redundant, so again, I don't complain
