I also had 2 drop today with a full party of hench going out to capture Ritual Lord in Eternal Grove explorable. Perhaps a sign of a use to come?

How would you abuse it?
The only way to abuse it is to find out where the best drops are and go there. But, if masses of people do that, then anet will nerf/change the drop rates, and the wiki people will just have to start over collecting data to figure out the adjusted drop rates.
It's not really something that is a "abuse it and it'll go away" worry -- it's a continual work in progress to figure out the data. and there's no use to collecting the data if you're not going to make use of it...

Did anyone really read my previous post?
I said to go farm birds in nahpui quarter - anyone try that yet?
If not go try it out a couple times - clear all the birds and see if they drop celestial stuff (guaranteed gold) when you see them holding it and tell me that that's random/luck.
If you only care about unfair drop assignments tell me if you've actually paid attention to watch someone's name go grey as they go out of range, then come back in for the 90% drop trick.
You people do know that gold chests always drop gold and purple chests always drop purple - isn't this a sign that it isn't as random as you'd think?

Party Members Drop %
1 100
2 50
3 33.3
4 25
5 20
6 16.6
7 14.3
8 12.5
Those are the drop rates if your complaining about another member getting a good item, and you getting shit. THere is no reason why you're unlucky. It's all percentages, everything relating to drops is. If everybody got some perfect weapon on their first try, then it would have no value *cough* totem axes *endcough*. It's just pure luck. These are exact, but basically show you the idea.
Let's just say your opening a FoW chest.
Chaos Axe req 13 - 50%
Chaos Axe req 7 - 1%
Catch my drift?

yeah I'm almost positive when you enter an instance some or all of the drops are set already.. but who gets them is probably based somewhat on hate from my experience and what other posters have experienced (interesting article on the sof website).. it's not totally random

"One thing I do agree with though... my Ranger gets lot's of caster items, while my Monk and Necro get a lot of swords and bows. This may be ANet's way of encoraging trade between players."
Well if ANet can do that, they should be able to have a more fair distribution of loot. In one evening, my partner got 12 purple and 6 golden which yielded about 20 runes and about 6 plat gold. Me? I got tons of spider droppings...no color, and oh, one purple that yielded a rune worth 25 gold...oh joy.
How about a round robin type of assigning...the one who gets it is out of the "random drop" until all players have gotten their drops?

i too would consider myself one of the unlucky players in GW in terms of drop quality. After 6000 hrs of playing in the last 38 months and IDing well over 1000 gold items, if it werent for the faction unlock system i still wouldnt have the superior vigor unlocked (in other words, ive NEVER had a superior vigor drop for me)! Meanwhile i play with my brother and he gets not just 1 BUT 2 superior vigors in back to back gold drops! Then a week later i play with a former guildie of mine, and the same thing happens to him!
The thing that really gets me with this is that they both have nowhere near as many hours playing as i do, nor as many golds ided, and i had to witness them both get 2 sup vigs in a row!

I was getting run in Hard Mode version of Cathedral of Flames with a full group, and I managed to get five gold drops plus two more from the chest at the end.
Either that's insane luck, I must be destined for something great in the next few weeks... or, in what I believe to be the correct reasoning... it's all random and not worth thinking too much about.

I went on a FoW run with some friends, one of my friends got 8 shards, while the rest of the team got 0-1. They just kept dropping for him too. -_-

You could talk about statistics and random chance, or you can complain about your bad luck to your deity or the corresponding antagonist, like the devil.
People are always trying to see patterns where there are none, and have a very hard time to swallow that they get unlucky while that terrible noob over there is one lucky SOB.

Went to the Underworld for the first time using my assassin. I went with my brother, also using his assassin.
He got 10 ectos. I got 3. We both fought the same mobs together. We went again. He got 3, I got 1.
I guess ectos don't like me.

Heh I notice this a lot. I'm usually the lucky one. I always get at least one gold when I'm with one or two friends. But when it's with a full group, I get squat. But I always get something good from the chest ^^'.

I've opened 1400+ chests on my War and the best thing I ever got was a r10 15^50 non insc Fellblade over a year ago. Which angers me.
Some people do have better luck. It's the same with that Zaishen Chest. I have around 600 zpoints, which isn't too terribly much, but still that's a solid 120 keys. Out of all those keys, the only respectable item I got was a r13 water celestial compass.
I wouldn't doubt it if somebody told me that certain accounts get better drops than others.

I have horrible luck with chests and the z-chest...after getting r5 treasure hunter and r4 zaishen ive yet to get an item worth more than 50k from a regular chest and my 2 best drops from the z-chest r a q13 DF celestial compass and a q13 command ametyst aegis...i havent witnessed the increase in luck after spending large sums of money like others say they have...after buying over 200 z-keys at 1 time and then using them all i went farming....shitty drops as always ...anywhere i farm now the best i get is "average" and ive logged about 2000 hours in 2 years...

I did that run a few times a couple of months ago and I never had less than 10 golden items when I was done with the dungeon. I open all chests in this game that I encounter.
Playing any dungeon in HM and opening some chests along the way earns quite some golden items. Some dungeons more than others but it can be really rewarding.
Usualy my inventory, approx. 25 free slots, is always full after vanquishing or completing a dungeon. And I can't pick up everything in the end.
I've been playing for 34 months now and I've played with many different people. But I can't really say that others are having more bad days or lucky days than me. Over that time everyone I know has gotten some good drops and I believe I'm currently the one with the less gold in storage.
I'm a still very happy player that hopes that Anet has some secret plans for us before they release GW2. (Which I don't expect to be released before 2010)

You should always agree on sharing the end results before entering.
Avoid the risk of being the poor bastard run after run. And it's also much more fair.

That sounds strangely like me!
Was doing FoW - but got kicked off the PC (had to minimize the game for a few mins) because SOMEBODY needed to check their e-mail or something.
So I afk for a few mins - come back - apologize - run towards the team - and as soon as I aggro the foes - the guys kill off the warrior who drops the shard for me.
And that was the pinnacle of my GW luck!
