Seriously, whats up w/ the drop assignments? anyone figure it out?
I know of about 2 or 3 people I know personally that gets tremendous drops, I mean a green on their first one and golds just by being in the group CONSISTENTLY. They play about the same amount of time, maybe slightly less and their ingame luck is just crazy. Example, I have killed wing 3 blade about 3-7 times w/ no drop solo, friend does it 1 time and get it, and along the way, enemies were fighting themselves and drop 2 golds for him while he was passing by :\
It has left me wondering, what is up w/ that? is there some kind of change people observed in drop rate assignment based on how long you've been away from the game or how much gold you've made? He plays moderately, he has 1300hrs in about 1 year(or close) while I have 1575hrs in 13 months(1yr 1mth). I have alot of characters I play and i always use to farm w/ my 55 monk, which I don't do anymore as of late.
I was away from the game for about 1 month before due to getting sick of it then coming back and I noticed no change in my drop rate when I got back, it was still below average Thats 1 full month of not playing and nothing :\
Although I would like to note that my drop quality in chest have been decent, like 1 out of every 25-30 gold chest produces sweet items(atleast at this point I call it decent). I would like to know if a test can be done about this. Like people staying away from the game for a certain time and come back to see what has improved.
Maybe people can help w/ this, try this: Farm a certain place and observe your drop quality or a place where you come across a boss and see if he drops something for you. Then try not playing for like a day or 2(which is convenient if you work weekends all day like me) and go again to see if there are improvements in game quality. This test is specifically for people w/ terrible luck, so F off to the people who get like 10 shards a spider run and gold items the moment they load on a map
This thread was made after a fried of mine w/ even more terrible luck than I went to clear the map w/ henchies and came across 8 chest, all were purple. This is also a guy who when we find a gold chest, gets only amber weapons while everyone else gets dragon schythes, gothic axe, defenders etc....(I get either amber staff or 1/20 chance to get the latter, although mostly staves ) He was so pissed he nearly rage quit, and by quit, I mean deleting the game. I just don't understand how the drop quality is so bad for other people while others just get everything, I mean Anet always doing updates on making everyone equal, whats up w/ this?

So umm your complaining about good items droping? Heh to me this is a welcomed change to me going over a certain place with a fine toothed comb and getting scrap materials and common junk. I like the whole capitalizing on groups that are fighting each other and killing the ones that are left standing. makes it interesting and also this just makes so we the players do not have to pay jimbo the rare hog 100K+ for something he has stockpiled. and as with your terrible luck thats just it LUCK sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you dont its all up to a coin toss most of the time. so you might give a thumbs down but i give it TWO WAY UP...

Wyld card's post was pretty off 0_o who's complaining about good items dropping? we're talking about why some people's luck come from the bowels of hell while others are delivered on silver outlined gold plate by God himself. It just seems odd that certain account keys were made to junk and others a golden ticket. I just don't get where in a game where updates are made all the fricken time to make the average joe get the luxury shmoe items relatively easily while 2 people who started at the same time; 1 gets 10 purples in a row and the other makes 10 mill off 10 drops(exaggeration but it happens). Supposedly they say luck is random, so in a random chance, atleast the other guy should've gotten some stuff, seems like the farming code is always on for alot of people whether they do or not, while others are always just started the game drops mode.

I think it is somehow biased. A variable linked to an account when it is made known as "luck". The lucky ones who get all the drops have a high number and those who don't have a low number. Thats the only way i can explain it. I found it to be like this months ago. I know some people with very high drop rates while mine and many other peoples drop rates are low. I even noticed it with chests. I went solo chest running(to get lvl 1 treasure hunter title) and out of 100 chests i got about 7 golds(most were jade wands). A friend of mine did the same and out of about 30 he got 20 golds(most were bows/swords/shields).

I'm not much of the lucky ones for chests and drops and stuff... But, when it comes to greens im swimming in them. Its not the point that im lucky its just i solo everything possible. I do think its luck because when i go for minotaurs and stuff with my 55 i usually dont get good drops. But when i Strongroot farm i get a Strongroot's Shelter every 2nd-3rd run through.

There is something off kilter about the drops and items from chests. One guildie keeps getting frost artifacts from chests (in Tyria AND Cantha, no matter the area) and during missions there seems to be a 65-75% chance that if a gold item drops another certain guildie will get it. There is a mob in Hot Springs my husband can regularly get a gold off of, but when I kill them Im lucky to get a blue or purple. Its odd to say the least.

I'm one of the few with terrible luck. In 13 months of playing (about 1300 hours) I have yet to recieve a black dye drop, never had a gold drop (not counting chests, which I always get a staff with 3 different attributes on it making it worthless), and the drops I do recieve are all worthless frost artifacts or jeweled chakrams. Just yesterday while I was getting my Canthan Warrior infused, 2 black dyes dropped for the same person...I stick with that group and do Thunderhead and guess what, he gets another black dye and 2 golds, one of which being a perfect sword. Now I have had a few greens drop for me aka Wings Axe and the Stonereaper but that is only after I killed Craw Stonereap exactly 83 times solo on my necro. I suppose I did get lucky on Wing's Axe though because it dropped in a fully henched group when I went to cap triple chop.
Overall, something is weird about the drop system. I honestly believe that there is no wayin hell that the system is random.

crap I tested this and my other account is freaken lucky
maybe I should quit playing my main account, have a friend trade my stuff to my other account, start working from the absolute beginning lol with that much luck.
WTF really I do think the luck being assigned to certain accounts might hold true here...
question is should I?

I know what you mean. One guy I know always gets amazing drops from chests. Granted, he has 3 accounts and like 16 characters.
Well, I'm not playing now for a while (due to loss of high speed net connection). I'll be back playing in about 2 months. Maybe then I'll see if that "time spent away" thing is true. /me crosses his fingers that it is

3 accounts with total of 16 characters?
let me guess 2 accounts with both chapters
and one that only has 1 eh?
at least that person will never have to worry about what to spend cash on

Maybe some of you experience this too. On my main accountif I ID a gold on my monk it is while hexed or under 50% everytime. And on my necro its always while enchanted. my other 2 chars on that account id fairly. In the 13 months ive played I have yet to ID a perfect weapon. I always seem to get the exact opposite of the profession i ID it with
My other account is the opposite. if I need an enchanted weapon I ID on monk,^50 on my ranger, in stance with my war weird but I can ID the mods I need if I switch around stuff from chars and accounts
And eve I have 3 accounts as you described above lol

Just got Rotscale's Bow twice in a row. Gave the second one away though, since we were in the same pug twice, thought it would be the right thing to do.

I'm going to put my faith in mathematics and say it will all average out over time. However, I have felt "unlucky" at times and felt like I was going through a dry spell.
At some point I was farming Rajazan for his sword. On the third run I got the sword. This drop came on the heels of a bunch of other green drops that I was getting. So I decided that luck was favoring me so I'd solo Rajazan some more and make a killing with his nice +5e/20% enchant sword. Well guess what? I solo'd that bum over 100 more times (over the period of a week) and he never dropped again. I basically gave up and felt that my luck had played out.
Then a week later I decide to do one more run on a lark just to see if I'm still "unlucky." Bam! The sword drops on the first try.
Now I've gone and solo'd a bunch of other bosses and haven't had to wait more than 5 runs to get a green drop. I've also been soloing in The Falls for the Totem Axe and have gotten a ton of them. (They may be dropping more frequently than normal for everyone.) I've also gotten a bunch of gold drops from the monsters in The Falls.
So am I lucky? No, I don't think so at all. I think it's just the law of averages. Over time I've had the same luck as anyone else who's played as much as me. I don't seem to have an unlucky character either.
One thing I do agree with though... my Ranger gets lot's of caster items, while my Monk and Necro get a lot of swords and bows. This may be ANet's way of encoraging trade between players.
Cheers!
