Default The Dragon Festival

So, the Dragon Festival starts this weekend, concivibly it could be the last before GW2 comes out. My thoughts are we could see some sort of tie in this year to the dragons of GW2. I know that story will be taking place far into the Tyrian future, but it's not an instantaneous transition. Do I dare to dream they have the creativity for that, or will this be another depressive GWEN-like release. Any thoughts?

Why would it be the last before GW2?

Because GW2 was announced to be planned to be release in summer of '09. Although the Dragon Festival in '09 will probably be the last seeing how the beta was pushed back. Won't be surprised if GW2 ends up coming out in '10 now.

This Dragon Festival has already been announced to be the exact same as last year, save for the mask. Don't expect anything new (although it is possible, as wintersday was the same thing except for 1 thing, the snowman lair dungeons, so they might have something related to EN in there, but not GW2).

I believe that ANet said they will still be updating on GW1, and they did say they are hiring programmers to focus on GW1 alone, to make maintaining two games easier. And as far as we know, the beta isn't this year, as it said there won't be in order to make the game as good as possible before we see it.

It'll be the same as last year. Same quests, same boardwalk games, same people standing around obtaining ranks in the Lucky/Unlucky title...

The only thing that'll be noticeably different is if a new mask will be obtainable at the end of it all. If not, then I can say "same dull mask".

However, anything regarding EotN variations of things... I can feel Ooze Pit being converted into some kind of Dragon Pit... most likely not...

I hope to continue playing GW1 long after GW2 comes out. By the way, I love playing GWEN.

Although we publically alpha- and beta-tested the original Guild Wars while it was still in early development, with Guild Wars 2 we will commence beta testing closer to the game's release. With that in mind, we will not start beta testing in 2008 as we had originally planned. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations of its quality. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it.
So no beta in 2008, so probably in April/May 2009...so plenty of time for another Dragon Festival.

Holy misleading batman! I thought by the name of the thread that this was to discuss something about the festival, but I find it is more speculation about GW2.
*sigh*

Come on people, just play GW1 and forget about GW2.

Seconded. I can see it now...two weeks after GW2 comes out people will be speculating about GW3.

I'm actually looking forward to the Dragon Festival. Yes, it is gonna be a rehash of a rehash, but at least it will be something a LITTLE bit different.

Those two quotes are my thoughts exactly with the GW community.

I'm expecting the same kind of festival that we've had for the past two years.

Last dragon festival before GW2? I wish.

It's probably going to be the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2009 before GW2 is released, and that's even a bit of a stretch.

The only new content we MIGHT see along with the dragon festival update is some skill balances and the HoM changes. I wouldn't expect anything else.

So I hear that in Guild Wars 3, there will be holographic projectors, and you can actually get *inside* the game!

Since they've already given the mission schedule I doubt it.

Really on topic thread. Thumbs up!

I've always liked the dragon festival. And from what you can lead out of the article on the website, and I quote: "a new demonic mask", you'd at least think it really would be a "new" mask.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, although sadly enough I can't come online a lot.
