The new content you "had to pay for" is nothing but stand-alone expansion packs. We only payed a single fee for GW, we don't deserve anything more. I don't hear people complaining when they had to pay for the expansion pack for StarCraft.

Totally agree. If you choose to play GW like an MMO, that's your choice, but its design and price structure are much closer to Diablo. Saying ANet needs to keep content rolling into GW is like saying, "OMFG Diablo III? WTF. No one's going to buy that, they haven't added content to Diablo II for YEARS."

Does it occur to you that perhaps the reason aNet has not released screenshots or videos is because they haven't reached a point where they would be proud to do so?
The difference between Diablo 3 and GW2 is that Blizzard waited until they had such promotional tools available to announce Diablo 3 while aNet announced GW2 long before having begun true production on it. They could probably release screenshots of whatever the game looks like at the moment, but would those unfinished "screenies" encourage fans or would it just start 100 more whine threads saying "GW2 graphics suck!" because the game isn't finished yet?

It seems like an attempt to balance the "player vs monster" concept. Don't really know how it will work in a persistent world, so we'll have to wait and see.
The more I hear about GW2, the more interested I am .

I would tend to think of it like the waythey buffed low lvls in eotn. Here is to more content in the meantime.

I think if they were to release screenies of the current state of the game, ppl would not be complaining bout how crappy the graphics would be. Cuz at the worst they would probably look like the current graphics that we have, which are actually very great atm compared to most other games in this genre. Plus its actually now over a year from being announced, at least 1 screenshot from the game for proof that they are in fact working on it would be very highly appreciated, especially if they intend to release within the next year or 2.
At this same point of the GW1 production phase they alrdy offered more to their potential customers. If my memory serves me correctly they did at least have a video of GWs back in 02, which was 3 yrs before release, and was with crappy graphics. Then in 03 (2 yrs before release) there was the official GW site which had in game pics posted on it (most of which were just environment which is all they need to release atm, just as long as they SHOW us something and not tell us, cuz i think most of would agree it is much better to watch/see a sunset than it is to be told it how it is/was and have it explained to us).

Of course people will complain. This is the GW community, people always complain. Besides, we have no idea what the graphics look like in GW2's current state. Why does aNet need to "prove" to us that they are working on GW2? What is it going to change if they release teaser pics/videos or not? People can bitch and moan all they want, aNet can release a hundred screen shots or none at all... All that really matters is that the game impresses when it is released.
Don't get me wrong, I will not think twice to click links when aNet starts releasing more info and photos of the progress. My point, however, is that they will release screen shots/teasers when the game is ready for it. We speculate that they must have something for us but, in all reality, we have absolutely no f'ing idea. People can complain that they are "losing interest" but, honestly, aNet could release nothing to maintain our interest in the meantime and --if GW2 ends up being a truly impressive product-- people are going to shit bricks and come flocking back once aNet's good and ready to release further info/teasers or the game itself.
When GW1 was in production, aNet was trying to interest their potential customers. They were showing people why they should give a rat's ass about GW. Now that they have already developed a fanbase, this is not required as desperately so they can take their time working on the game more and provide public teasers later down the line.
Whether they release anything or not, things will move, time will not stop and it will eventually come. What difference does it seriously make other than that people are impatient?
I know how it is, I am eager and excited too. But why cry about it?

WHAT? I guess you are an oracle then and know just how done GW2 is then.
Aaje is correct. The difference between D3 and GW2 is that Blizzard kept their mouth shut for longer. I'm positive D3 has been in production just as long, if not longer, then GW2. Heck, just look at StarCraft 2, that's been supposedly in development by Blizzard for over 2 years before it was announced.

Screenshots and 20 minute long video will suffice, since Diablo III media has now set the standard.

A standard of what?
you must be young, there is no standard for how a games developement company give you information
ANet, unlike Mythic (Warhammer Online for example), ANet are telling us nothing, they are doing WHAT THEY WANT, and then, when they are happy, they'll show us things and get our feedback, buts that ANet, they do what they want (ok, they pandered to the customer two/three years down the line) but as they did with Guild Wars 1, they are doing something newish and want to get it done before showing us

So does this announcement confirm that there will be only the 5 playable races in GW2? No possibility they might announce tengu or somehing at a later date?

In GW2 as of release, maybe. There are at least 2-3 races in GW with quite a bit of character that aren't in the list for GW2, and I can't imagine ArenaNet just forgot them (especially not with reminders every other week! ).
Unsurprisingly, popular rumour has it that tengu, centaurs, and maybe the forgotten, mursaat, or naga will turn up in later expansions. The first two are the only ones I'd actually put money on though.
P.S. I seriously doubt Diablo 3 will be out until a similar timeframe to Guild Wars 2. I would not at all be surprised if the two actually end up competing somewhat.

Disappointed by the delay of Beta, but i'm looking forward to a glitch free game when in finally is released. I'd rather a delay than a Hellgate: London debarcle.

the biggest mistake they made is tell us that they were making gw2 i bet there no were close to having game play footage, i bet they are still planing. also talk about not being competitive. anet has really drooped the ball in the website and info department of gw2. just look at the websites for da3 and ra3 movies and screen shots and everything gw2's website just leads you to the guild wars website.

Not even a Diablo fan but I gotta say that, that announcement was fracking epic! God that rocked.
Its like the internet is going up in flames and everyone rushing out to get DII again, lol.
I don't understand how they can do it. Blizzard is amazing.

Agreed. I havent played GW since GW2 was announced. What is the point? A sequel defeats the purpose of playing the older game.
Not worth making long time commitments, getting titles and building community if everyone is already on their way out. At the same time, nothing sucks more than being a veteran in a dying online.

Unless you can loose nothing in the game, ie. it requires skill for you to be good at it. Like people playing CoD2 even if CoD4 is out, playing Battlefield with BF2 out.
Or if sequel sucks. Neverwinter Nights, unfortunately. I still play it, thought sequel will be good, got disappointed.
Or if there were many things changed in the sequel, good or not, such as graphics and requirements. I still played Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein few weeks after Quake Wars premiere, mainly on my not-too-good laptop. Not the same, though... Not the same for good, of course.

I guess since it hasn't been absolutely stated that those will be the only available races upon launch, we aren't even certain they aren't still trying to decide whether or not to add more for initial release. We can be fairly certain that aNet does have plans on at very least adding more races in future expansions/add-ons, however, because they are keeping it open for them to make this decision later.

Did you read the announcment? Did it say 5 playable races only? And how should we know if they will announce tengu at a later date ? We only have the same info you do.
