Boreas seabed:

-Ohhhh wise old elder Rhea, we need the spear of archemorus to kill the spirit of shiro that might become human once more and destroy the world!

-Ok, but first, you need to do a tournament to prove you're worthy.

-ZOMG WTF?!!! We need it NOW!

-You must first kill all opposite teams then kill the mighty kraken AND then you can have the spear!

-Why?!? Won't you just give it to us?

-This would not be a mission if i gave it to you MWHAHAHAH

Old fart lady.

Ring of Fire Mission:

Climb into a Volcano at the behest of the sketchy Vizier (come on! you KNOW anyone with the title of "Vizier" is dicey!) for the CHANCE to ACCESS the Door of Komalie.

So, we might climb in this volcano...and die from that. Or we might get ganked by Mursaat, Jades, and more.

Then, assuming you survive that, you need to break into a fortress and overpower the garrison in it.

...All for a SHOT at the Door in the NEXT mission--a shot that's certainly not guaranteed (from the mortal hero's perspective.

Can't I just sneak up the volcano, drop some of Budger Blackpowder's goodies in there, and watch it all go boom!?

And seriously...couldn't Glint have said, hey, doods, beware teh Vizeer, he'z outtagetcha!? Isn't she like, omniscient?

As a hero, I dislike playing the pawn.

I would have to say Auroa Glade. The New Thirsty River.Dunes bonus,The Enternal Gove,The Gayla Hatchery,The Grande Courte and The Gate of Madness.

I do agree with what someone saidand that is if we had a choice to choose between the Borlis Pass mission or another that let you go with the King to Drascir and go and fight the charr I would of done that instead.

Gate of Madness, it was pointless to fight through all that (and the Lich and Shiro) to get to the gods only to hear them say they aren't going to help. What a pain.

I agree with the Great Northern Wall, pretty dumb to see that the Charr was there and then they see and follow you.

I know there are more but at the moment I can't quite think of them. hehe

Wow, I completely forgot that I need to replay the last proph mission for the green you get there now o.O

I never even understood or paid attention to any of the story.

So much that when Pricne Rurik died I thought - 'WTF did he do anyway? Ummmmm.... Get in my way and lead us all to potential death?'

Wow! My hero.

I never got thunderhead keep
why are we defending it again?
actually why are we attacking it, there was a mursaat portal in the iron mines mission...we cudda used that.

Why did we ascend? it didnt do me any favours... i mean we still get treated like crap and have too buy stuff, if i was up with the gods, i wouldnt be paying for ectos

We save the world a total of...4 times!!!!!! and what is the reward?
we got a crappy green worth 2k, people dont even recognize us, back to feeding old joe the devourer, chasing the prized hog, and all other novelty missions.

why did we try and escape from ascalon 2 years after the searing? and how the hell did level 10 charr do that? killing them in pre for charr bags to pretty up the inventory didnt stop it either.

factions was so stupid.

1. Ascend for no reason and prove yourself to the old dudes
2. Get the kurzicks/luxons to help
3. Kill shiro with no such help. Sure we get like 3 henchmen from kurzicks/luxons, but where the hell is the cavalry? im talking about the massive turtle sieges you see in eternal grove, the ambushes of hundreds of kurzicks in gyala hatchery.. that would have gone down a treat against shiro.. imagine 6 siege turtles and 300 kurzicks mobbing him...yea meditation of the reaper that.

Nightfall

1. go to vabbi
2. go to desolation
3. go to the vortex thing
4. kill varesh shiro and undead lich.... again
5. kill a god with the "blessing" of other gods..which we never got. wheres the damn mending and +1 fire attributes for 10 mins balthazar!?

Eotn

WTF!!?? did they run out of ideas? again no help as promised by the many factions whos butts you wiped clean to gain there help. the asura dont do anything, ebdon vanguard are still QQ'in about the searing, the dwarves have a hammer which they dont use and the norn... well actually they gave us ursan so gg

so thats it, the whole story line of all 4 campaigns is bad lol

THK is there to remind players that being infused is a good thing and that there was a point to the whole Seer/Eidolon thingie.....

Also it confirms that the dwarves are complete nutters

It is therefore not pointless

Factions - The Envoys resurrecting us and then claiming we owe them something. Listen, buddy, next time, don't resurrect me, let the resurrection shrine do that, mkay?

Nightfall - Helping that leecher Kormir become a god with no merit of her own.

Prophecies - Most everything? The stuff in Ascalon achieves nothing, since everyone leaves anyways; in Kryta and the Maguuma we help the White Mantle, then the Shining Blade, handed the Sceptre of Orr over to the Lich, then did random, pointless stuff in the desert, wandered the Shiverpeaks killing the Mursaat, who were good guys trying to stop the Lich, then went to the Ring of Fire to kill off more good guys, got the small pleasure of personally zapping Rurik's rear end with Ancestor's Rage and other good stuff, then killed the Lich and some titans, and were rewarded with one of the most unsatisfactory endgame cutscenes ever, followed by being dumped back to Droknar's Forge, surrounded by Prophecies scrubs and forced to desperately get out of there before we start taking INT damage. Gah.

Everyone, including Kormir, denigrates the blessing. But as I've commented in previous threads, we don't actually know what it did. We assume nothing because it didn't give a status effect, but that could be just that the design team didn't bother because everyone who got to Abaddon would have gone through the Gate of Madness to get there, and if you didn't have the blessing it may have been impossible.

(One off-the-wall theory, even though I'm pretty sure it's just a joke on ANet's part, is that the reason you die if you try to dance with Abaddon is that the gods get disgusted at your frivolity and withdraw the blessing. The blessing doesn't look so insignificant then, does it?)

Agreed, Stormcaller was a bit of a damp squib. I'd always thought it as being the item that would allow Ascalon to recover by finally washing away the Searing, but no, according to the leadup to GW2 Ascalon doesn't even get THAT...

Admittedly, though, finding it was serendipitous. The missions themselves were things that the relatively low-grade heroes we were at the time were appropriate for - rescue prisoners, then get the heck out of there. (It does further annoy me that the canon is apparently that the Flaming Sceptre mages got left behind, though. WHY?!?!?!)

You're there in order to track Shiro down (and you do in fact face him at the end). The waves of Afflicted are the inevitable result of Shiro having gone through before you.

Story. You had no reason to GET ascended until you found out that the White Mantle, and the power behind them, was killing people. As for the Wilds... at the TIME, you were newly appointed knights of the Mantle being sent on a mission to track down the kidnappers of the Chosen you'd just escorted and avenge the murder of their guards. It just turned out that things were a little more complicated than that.

But nooo, it's much more fun to go through damn caves that can collapse on you and kill you.
Which ones? The Sunspears tried an invasion, and it failed. Kryta and Cantha still have their own problems at this point - and what's to say an attempt to intervene by them wouldn't have had the same result?

In fact, considering why you went to Vabbi in the first place, if you had the means to take Jahai by force you wouldn't have needed to.

I've made the same comment myself. I tend to rationalise it by figuring that they did take them but stored them near enough to the cell for them to be grabbed pretty much immediately on release - but ANet decided not to actually take all your weapons out of inventory to avoid the hassle.

Might have been interesting to have done it as a status effect, though.

Don't forget that you Ascended, a task at which the (previous) greatest hero of Elona failed to achieve...

That's a weird one. On the way, you do meet other dreamers who turn out to be being used as portals for demons to arrive, but that doesn't happen to Melonni even if you don't do that mission. Maybe cleansing the garden has the same effect... which, of course, makes that by far the more important of the two missions.

She only does that if provoked. If someone interferes with her eggs she gets angry with you, wipes you, remembers she needs you and resurrects you to kick you out before you can try again. It is, however, possible to simply walk through the portal without fighting Glint at all.

Actually, if you hang around long enough rather than jumping through the portal immediately, there is a huge army of Destroyers that comes in behind you.

I knew he was the Lich as soon as I heard that the Vizier was still 'alive'. Not because of the 'vizier=evil' trope, but because he was ground zero of the spell that made everyone ELSE become undead - throw in that he wanted the same Sceptre as the Lich did and it was stretching coincidence just a little too far.

It's the capital of the allied nation of Deldrimnor... who had provided a LOT of assistance previously in the storyline. Recapturing it to help your allies and, in the process, turning the tide in the war against the Stone Summit is all the incentive the heroes need to go. Really, we owed them one.

And if you didn't do it and just jumped through the first portal you came across, there'd be no Dwarves to sacrifice themselves so you can get past the Ring of Fire beachhead in the first place.

Well, even though I agree that there are some issues with a bunch of the missions, I would think that a lot of the comments here have to do with the fact that people obviously didn't really pay attention to the story line. We don't help Zhed free his buddy's cause we felt like it, but because we had to. Why? Well, that's the storyline I am talking about. You may want to read the conversation preceding that mission Still, I missed a lot of the storyline too and I can't blame people for it.

I still don't know what's so hard about GoM because even in HM we had to take care not to kill Shiro too quickly so we could finish the bonus.

I think that in the story the hero has a purpose and he does what he, or she, needs to do to get there. So in that sense all missions have a point. I would think that a better question to raise is which missions aren't worth it to the player rather than the hero in game. That's what a lot of replies seem to be about anyway.

Unwaking Waters - Beat the shit out of a dragon that was previously attacking you to release it from Shiro's evilness?
