Supply and demand determines the price.
I am taking advantage of it and have bought enough ecto to do three sets of armor. Once ANET does something to the permasin I am hoping shards will return to less then 1k each.

So they will be working as intended. Jolly good.

I think ANet are waiting for favor to be lost before they nerf SF to see what effect that has on ecto prices. If they go back up again, SF will stay as it is, if they don't then they will nerf it.

I don't know what "double ecto" thing you are talking about. I've gotten 3 ectos from groups of aatxes before.
|
"Double Ecto" was when one smite dropped 2 ecto. Instead of seeing "Glob of Ectoplasm" laying next to each other you would see "2 Globs of Ectoplasm" stacked. Back then it was actually worth your time to go to the Ice Waste. Just my experience but loot scaling or not, the number of ecto dropping from the smites has been reduced.

Favor loss won't be a very big deal. It's only 20 max titles until people get 60 min of favor. I bet there will be no favor for about an hour or 2 in between.

I agree, but it may be enough to stabilise or slightly inflate ecto prices. And if there isn't any effect then it will be time for the nerf bat.

QFT.
There was an *intentional* reset on the price when all regions came to factor into the merchant prices. That day many people became rich and no rollback was done. Anyone that logged in right after the reset and that knew what an ecto was became insta-rich.
Edit> Oh, and that's when prices for rare drops skyrocketed. Bad move by Anet. The second time they screwed this up is when they made a rollback.

Ecto now selling for 3.5k at trader.
IMO there needs to be some sort of basement price on big item commodities. It's kinda a bummer to see what took weeks of farming back in the good old days take days or hours under the new prices (and thusly, robbing any real sense of "accomplishment" derived from obtaining a cool set of armor, etc)
Sigh.

exactly this will prevent solobility, unless using cover enchants and it wont hurt normal groups and/or UB groups too much, but a-net is too retarded to realize these kind of things and they have bigger fish to fry, GW 2.
P.S- i got scammed out of 112 ectos recently thus now i couldn't give a shit about GW economy

I actually don't think it would make any different impact on groups, as they already has enchant strips anyway, if anything it will only effect the monsters energy(it has the side affect of draining all ur energy). And no amount of cover enchantments will stop it lol, i guess we will just have to wait to see if they do ANYTHING at all.

Frankly, at this point it is too late. The trader works on supply and demand. If they close this run, the supply will be less but I don't see how the demand will return.
Those who were using ectos for money have already sold to minimize their losses and aren't likely to rebuy as ectos are now too unstable to use as solid currency
Those who are buying now hoping to gain if the price goes up will be looking to sell, not buy, if this run is nerfed.
Most of those who wanted FoW armor have already gotten it the last couple of weeks and the few that are left won't put enough demand on the current supply to make much of a dent.
I think this train has left the station never to return - I doubt we will see ectos over 3.5k again.

I've grown on the whole ecto 'over-farm'. I don't see a huge problem with it anymore - just means more people are get Obsidian Armor if they so desire (which itself is a good thing overall for all players).
We don't need to worry about trading with ecto anymore either - Zaishen Keys are a good substitute.

I agree...
From my POV the next steps are the following:
1. Favor is lost. Yes it needs only 20 titles to get it back...but since the "gaining titles trend" is negative - that's why favor is lost - the waiting time for these 20titles will be increased over time...
2. Price of UW scrolls will go up cause no-one wants to wait...
3. Trader will run out of uw scrolls (supply of these scrolls is not unlimited, remember?)
4. Less uw runs in general (ursans, permasins...)
5. Less supply of ectos
6. Demand is the same since ecto is used for 100k+ transactions (mini pets, rare r8/r9 items, everlasting tonics etc)
7. Price of ectos goes up again...
Of course, Anet is out there to surprise us all the time - they can nerf SF, nerf ecto drops, give perma UW access, leave everything as it is, i don't know...they can do anything they like...

That works when you have a huge demand, but, when GW2 comes out there is going to be such an exodus from GW1 there won't be much demand for ectoes or anything else for that matter. People will just start giving stuff away like they did in Star Wars Galaxies when 150,000 people quit after the NGE change/update. I went back recently and players were giving me MILLIONS of credits and all kinds of booster items and even a free rover. GW will go kaput after GW2 comes out.

Except for the people who are going back to get the HoM rewards. Besides that I agree.

This may be true depending on what advantages (if any) or what items (if any) that are given because of HOM and how quickly one can just get something else comparable within GW2 the timeframes will make a difference to at least some people if not a lot. Kinda like why go back to GW1 HOM and try to get a 15^50 weapon that might take 20 hours when you can get one simular in GW2 in 10 hours? Just food for thought. We still don't know what advantages HOM is going to give in GW2 and that's the most important part of the equation right now.

How long had shards been going UP for? And why? I'd imagine they stay the same but up?
FoW might be hard to solo but a 2 or 3 man team dedicated enough can get just as much shards as they would ectos(in a few runs that is )
