Haha, I was actually there talking to him as he made the first one, I had no idea it'd get this serious.

he's gone now, either he's been kicked, or has been taken to a private place for discussion, it's his fault either way, regardless of whether or not his original ban was just, he brought this on himself, two wrongs don't make a right

That's not what I said, you misunderstood. I meant this character exploit could lead into other bugs and exploits.

Here's hoping ArenaNet not only refuses to give their accounts back, but also IP bans them.

I really won't because that could get people poking around even more. But based on how game design is done, just about any bug or exploit can lead to any other bug or exploit. Good example includes the Guild Hall bug which could take you to Pre, and then a few months after that the Guild Hall exploit that could take you anywhere from the bugged Canthan guy. The Ebony Citadel of Mallyx bug that could also be used on any NF mission since they were all built that way. I could go on. I'm not saying there would be additional potential bugs and/or exploits from this, but there could be and therefore even though this doesn't really harm the game, it is in their best interest to fix it and it's related stuff.

Generally you don't ban White/Grey Hat's. Occasionally the latter, but never the former. This guy seemed to have wanted to tell Anet about it, and has posted about it in the past, but they didn't notice it, so the only real way to get them to notice it is to make everyone notice it. It's a fairly serious issue, and one that shouldn't be ignored.

Why request? You can easily do it from your computer :P
These people, however, strike me as being not really smart enough to know that.

Chances are if he's already been refused before, and his account is blocked, it was likely over a game exploit. (I'm reminded of how indignant the Mallyx exploiters got when they were banned, as though they had a right to complain.) Game exploiters do not deserve second chances or lenient treatment.

Yes, they just use programming language to do stuff, or know the server/client structure well enough to see holes.
Of course they aren't smart enough to change an IP, something my 10 yo sister can do.

They action people to be safe. It gets white hats too (pablo24 has been banned for testing out exploits (which you kinda have to do to make sure they workkkk) on the live servers before), but it's just a matter of proving they had no malicious intent and just wanted to get the exploit fixed and their name cleared.
I can't really see any malicious intent here.....?

seriously,,,, you guys should have done this after ANet had left for work for the day. you know,,, like midnight US time. then there would be like 50 clones by the morning and whole INT D1 would be there cheering you on. maybe just filling up all the INT districts in Thempl of Balthz.
too late.
you should have applied for jobs with ANet instead

I'd figure I should get into this thread in some way, so here goes:
This is not the way to get a specific point across. You, whoever you are, just realize that you wont be getting what you want now because of this...

Seeing as how I saw what you said, I will just prove the line of thinking. They tested the exploit numerous times in a multitude of ways, and it was not fixed. They get banned. Exploit still not fixed. Grab another account, do the exploit again, make it more public so people can see it, which will set red flags to Anet that something is going on, exploit gets fixed, try to get their account that they were just testing the exploit on unbanned. Generally, these people don't even care if they get banned, since they are White Hat's., which is specifically defined as a Hacker who does something without malicious intent. They hack for the good of the game, in other words. So in the end I doubt getting their accounts back is that big of a priority (but something they explain and try for) because they are just trying to help the game out. The only difference here is is generally companies hire these people and Anet doesn't seem to do this.
Not everyone who hacks is a bad man who needs to be banned willy nilly. In fact, a good number of the popular exploits have been alerted to Anet by White Hats recently, mostly thanks to pablo. Tho he hasn't doen anything recently publically, he did forward them info on another Pre-Searing exploit and stuff before people could do it first.

Ayup. Unfortunately, Hollywood has taught the brain dead that the only way to get attention is to Haxxor the gubment. Or computer game.
In the end, you didn't make the 6 o'clock news, just the scorn of a dozen sceptic players.

It's faster than sending an email.
Like the guy mentioned, he has posted about it before. It's been known for 6 months.
Obviously emails and what not don't really work as fast as White/Grey Hat's would like them to.
:hm:
