i don't understand people who cry over their own lack of money in this game. why? because money is not that crucial in this game. max armor, and max weapon stats work the same no matter what the skin is. a sundering 15-22, 15^50, +30 hp, req9 sword will work the same whether it's a rusty machete or a crystalline. max armor has the same stats across the board whether it's free (except for the no insignia placement part), 1k, or 15k.
you could argue that you "need" to give your heroes runes and insignias in pve. and i'll tell you i got legendary vanquisher and guardian without buying any runes or insignias for my heroes. and then there's free stuff for your pvp characters if you pvp...
if you want a certain skinned item, you know what you have to do so stop crying and go do it. personally i had over 500k in storage and have given significant chunks of it to guildmates and alliance members mostly because i really don't care to buy anything.

As i read this i am thinking wow what luck some have and how a-net hates me. Laughable but at one point i actually thought someone had it out for me. After several solo runs in the uw (roughly65) for ecto i wound up with 6. any solo farm i tried would end up getting me nothing worth a dang. no golds very few purples and zero lockpicks. Conclusion.. some people just have the luck and some dont. i am one that doesn't and have come to face that fact. How some got that rich (luck vs./ dupping).. really, who cares. its a game. yes i would love to have that money and do and buy whatever it is that i wish i could have. but at the end of the day does it really make you a better player or person? IMHO.. no. and if you think it does, how lonely your life really is. and i am sorry for you.

Anyone who got super rich like with thousands of ecto didnt do it farming UW everyday or make it farming for other items, they farm places like kamadan instead.

Its not luck, its dedication, smart trading, and WAY to much free time.
the people that have been playing from the begining had way bigger opportunities to make tons of money than you did. the smart ones that wanted to be rich started power trading, and kept doing it. now they can buy mini pandas.

The richest I've ever been was like back when B/P's were farming tombs. I had like 135k. Then I blew most of it on 15k enchanters armor, on a mesmer I've long since deleted, and 15k wanderer's monk armor, quite possibly the most covert set of 15k armor on the game. My monk still rocks that. As of typing this, I have zero money in storage, no ectos, no black dyes, no gems, no shards, and don't plan on chasing any of those things either. I sure as hell wouldn't spend 4000 ectos on a little pokemon panda. If I had that many ectos, I'd buy my whole guild fow armor till they ran out.... or design one hell of a contest, winner takes all. I think most fow is ugly except for the mes, which i no longer have one of them.

I see it that those who have money woes, usually dont have many campaigns that are crucial to easy farming, ex Ursan. It is possible to get a hell lot of money. Have you seen the farming thread? It is chucked full of sin builds to farm loads of ecto. Its seems to be at such an ease that some people are worried that the ecto may lose its value, since every once in a while u see it drop and rise.
Still take into consideration that there is a number of people who also buy their gold with real cash, sad or they have a lot of money to throw.

My friend, you win .
Getting THAT rich requires been playing for some long time, and have been there in the right time. Not only that, but lots, lots of patience.
To get averaged rich (500k-1 million) takes only a few weeks, at most, of normal gameplay.

Guild Wars is 3 years old....
That's 1095 ish days. So, 4000 ectos is actually only 4 per day, every day. And that's without any powertrading at all.
So, it's possible to have 4000 ectos quite legitimately, but very few people will.
The stacks of ambraces on the other hand...

Farming has a rather constant gold earning rate nowadays. No more ultra rare stuff. So if you want to hit 4000ectos, you basically need [4000e/rate of gold]Hrs.
Power trading, well, it depends

4000e = 400 hours in UW (estimate) with the current FotM farm. /age your character - there havent always been farms as consistantly profitable I grant you, but a competant player who is willing to invest the time into it can make as much money as they like really, powertrading helps but now excluding the ultra high end items, farming is once again a viable source of income.
well until they nerf the permasin into the ground anyway.

Answer to OP, well let's think i farmed today 15 ectos. (2h, would be less if wouldn't be so bad spawn.
4000 / 15 = 266. 266 days to get 4000 ectos if you get 15 in day...
Okay, just noticed. * Goes to farm *

once you've got a fair amount i suppose trading minipets and stuff can get you ectos of profit each time.
i know you can earn quite abit off FFF and running ATFH quest. its mostly about keeping up to date and finding the latest schemes before everyone else copies

As I said at the bottom of my post, to each their own. We all like doing things differently
I still don't get the need for stacks of money that's not actually 'giving' you anything though *shrug* That's probs me though, and I guess I'd understand it more if those uber-rich people did actually spend it all on stuff they genuinely liked, or used it to buy presents for people. It seems like pretty much they just hoard the gold however, just to make more with it...which I'm afraid does still seem silly to me.
Meh, guess it's just me though...lol If I have too much gold I tend to start buying stuff for people or giving stuff away (only to guildies and friends obviously), I wouldn't see the point in just letting it accumulate. Unless I was saving for something
Good going if you can power trade and find that entertaining or enjoying though

Agree with OP. I always feel poor. I have all the tools to farm, I just find it incredibly dull >.>
I make it by with z-keys and occasional 600/smite or perma-SF farms. Overall, I'm glad I kept my real life fairly intact over being uber-rich in a game.
