I really don't see the point of the HoM. ANet cannot put pure GW2 players (i.e. those that don't have GW1) at a disadvantage to those that come from GW1, so at most you'll possibly get some sort of vanity item(s) or maybe a range of emotes depending on what you have in your HoM. I suspect the Devs haven't worked it out themselves yet and the HoM is simply there to keep the interest in GW1 going until they release GW2.

Did he leave?
Really everything posted here is true, people pay what they want to pay, things in guild do not have a set price, just close this thread already I think the OP is already a smoldering pile if ash by now.

Honestly u guys.... some of this thread amounts to: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10320408. He had a valid question and just got flamed down by a load of people. Calling someone ignorant or noob isnt going to help, its just going to push another member away from the forums....... get a grip....
My opinion: as for saying that pets are for HOM.. umm yes people buy them for that now, but they used to be purely for display purposes in towns (which i still do, 40+ pets and climbing.. and yes they are all undedicated).
So the answer to the question is: Yes people buy them at high prices unded, use them in HOM, then sell them at a great loss, because they either believe that GW2 will give them some kind of bonus, or just want to complete their Halls to show to other players.
A lot of people have got into filling their HOM.. BUT not all people play that way, the game has a large diversity of players who dont all play the same way, personally Ive used only one tapestry for an LDOA just to see it. The rest I'm not particularly interested in despite seeing my mates Ian's hall (full). (as for the fact that Ive only used 1 tapestry...thats 14 pve chars on main account , all campaigns)
How about a little less:

My guess is that if you have a dedicated mini in the HoM it will still be dedicated in GW2. So I don't think people are going to get rich by selling their mini pets they dedicated in the HoM in GW2. But most people want the chance of using it in the next game. I personally would never buy a dedicated mini, I consider it just a waste of money. I'm only going to be using it for a short time. Having it in GW2 is a much better deal for the money.

I got 20 undedicated minis that became dedicated when I put them into my Hall of Monuments. Since then, I've been buying minis dedicated just to actually fill in my storage. I highly doubt having a mini Mallyx or Ghostly Hero will make a difference if I put a Fungal Wallow or Kirin in my HoM instead.
Oh, I also rotate showing them off whenever I'm not in the mood to go progress through the game.

The purpose of the HoM is to display the achievements of your characters so that they are not forgotten in the move to GW2. People want undedicated minis so that they can place them in a monument and display them as an acheivement. The old purpose of the minipet is slightly obsolete. You can still let them follow you around but this is not the highest form of display for your mini.
Even if they achieved it by paying an obscene amount of money, it's still an achievement.
