Simple ... every question/problem/obstacle I've run into and researched answers to on this forum has had almost NOTHING but response that insulted the OP and set out to prove how "elite" the responder was. even after my 3 years, i would never ask any of these guys for help either seeing as 90% of them are what you just posted. i post here to either try and help others, or debate certain topics, and i suggest if you want real answers, find some friends/good people in game (which you seemingly have), and learn that way.

Okay but I think you are forgetting something, this is the internet. Meaning, no matter where you go, you will come across flamers, trolls and all other kinds of knuckleheads that will taunt and put down just for "lulz". What people here need to do and as others have said is to be able to sift out the good from the bad. Meaning, look for those who give out thoughtful info and politely ignore those who don't.

It's really just internet 101 in the end and I really don't see how this thread or any other is going to put an end to it.

EDIT: An example of sifting out advice would be like if someone posted a tech-related question and someone replied, "Delete your System32 folder." Most techies know not to do that so they ignore it or make a sarcastic remark back.

I disagree with this POST, to an extent.

It is an online game, played with other real people. Why should they never be asked questions? I find that it is a good way to meet people. I approach them politely and ask if they have time for a question. I am often ignored, and that's fine. But I also meet some real nice folks and form friendships this way.

Why should I eliminate the social aspect of this game and consult some soulless webpage? If your time in game is too vital to share with others, ignore them, don't lash out at them.

I will never choose wiki over a conversation with a fellow player, just like I will never choose the 'press this button' over speaking with a live advisor.

And don't lump us all into l33tsp33k3rz; I am very fond of the English language, and prefer not to abuse it.

Oh I sift out plenty and you are right, the internet is full of people who get their thrills in life by bashing others just because they can. They sole reason I wrote this post this morning was I went to look up something and once again ran inito yet another "I hate this nerfed game..." and "You are an idoit..." set of responses and I just couldn't contain my frustration any more.

It depends on WHERE you're asking the questions. IMHO, the majority of responses to questions in the Q & A section of the forums do not fall into any of the catergories above.

I tend to stay away from the GvG and builds sections here because of all the people there who have to prove to everyone else how "l33t" they are. Oncve two freinds of mine got into an arguement on TS over different Mesmer builds and the funny thing was, both of the builds they came up with worked great!

One thing that many people miss is that it's a two-way street. On the one hand, it's annoying when experienced people just give the blanket "Wiki is your friend" line - especally when they don't answer the question! What they're failing to realize is that many, many NEWBIES, have never even heard of the wiki. On the other hand, many newbies don't bother to read the FAQ stickie at the top of the page (or any of the other stickies up there) before posting their question, or bothering to look at any of the other threads that are already in existence. That's just asking for trouble.

Riverside can become a flame fest, especially when any OP doesn't have the sense to refrain from posting something where they feel compelled to include in their post something along the lines of "I don't want this to turn into a flame-fest, but..." (they already KNOW that's what's going to happen.

)

If you have a head on your shoulders your not gonna get flamed... Do some research there are alot of available resources at your disposal. You don't need to subject yourself to ridicule if you take 2 minutes to investigate your inquiry before you question a group of people... Some people like to help, others find your nagging tiresome, I am in limbo between both stances since yes we were all new at one point. Some of us figured things out on our own (it's not hard) so we see your questions as a bothersome thing. This is not a flame this is just advice... to avoid flamers and pissers do a little resource before making yourself a target. (like you have done now)

And for some reason some people think it's cool to show how much they know about a truly un-important issue like a videogame. And probably don't know crap about their local, state, or federal governments, world issues, ecenomic issues, etc.. accept what they read in the forums or see on Mtv. They have to throw in their two cents worth instead of just ignoring what they think may be a stupid question. Like a Hollywood actor/actress.... Do we really care what their opinion is? I say consider the source, and don't let it bother you. I mean my god is it really that awful that people ask questions.... whether you feel they are dumb or not. Does it really affect you that badly? My god!!! Really?!!! Hell most of the time these guys just want other people to read thier posts, see how funny they are at cracking on people. Don't take it personal.

Not a direct response to your post, but more of a rant.
Guildwars guru is a good community in my opinion. The actual guild wars community ingame is bad though.
If people on this forum are flaming you, it is for a damn good reason, and you should learn to take criticism. If you don't actually use your brain and strategy, which is what the game is intended for, you deserve to get bashed.
Simple as that. This is guild wars. Put an effort at becoming a better player or people will continue *facepalm*ing at build you'd keep calling "1337" and "Awesome!"

Experienced players don't want stubborn n00bs who don't take advice to drag them down in team builds. Why do you think most elites h/h everything now days?

1) I'm not a help tech for Guild Wars, so go to hell. I've worked in a call center, and I'd love to do some pretty horrible things to people who ask stupid questions.

I have been a gamer for over 30 years, and a computer gamer since Pong. I've been pissing on open books longer than most people that play the game have been alive. That's what really made me chuckle. I played the game solo with h/h for months while laying low and then talking to folks, asking questions, and fine tuning my style. But I only have one 20, so I will be called a newblet and take it.
