Default Guild Wars 2 Lore To Be Told In Book Series

Yet possibly even more exciting was a small tidbit of news we got from Chris Lye, ArenaNet's Director of Marketing, regarding Guild Wars 2. The team is working with Pocket Books (a division of Simon & Schuster) for a three-book series that will fill in the lore gaps within the 250-year period between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Stay tuned to Massively for more on this series and any other Guild Wars 2 news we may uncover.

Sounds pretty sweet. Now is this going to be a novel-type book with a story and such? Or just a fact-giving, lore-telling book?

I like the idea of having historical tomes of lore (fact-giving), rather than stories of how Margrid and Goren had thick babies ^.^

I remember when I first read the prophecies manual, I was quite impressed with the writing; it was enjoyable in its own right. I'll of course wait for others to test the waters when it does come out before I commit money to it, but I'm at least tentatively hopeful.

cool. I hope they get good authors if the book is in novel form. I hope they don't get authors like Salvatore or Greenwood.

btw, i hope they make it into novels

I'm sort of looking forward to this, it would be fun to read a trilogy about Guild Wars. The only thing I'm wondering about is how they're going to write it in such a way that it still makes sense with the number of players playing the same role. And also I wonder about the author. They've got to get someone who's already a fan to write them I'd think...? *here's hoping David Eddings is a GW fan*

P.S. I was going to make this topic last night, but Sora is more forth going than I.

They will do what they did for the Official Lore Stories if it isnt just a fact book type of thing. In those stories the players are replaced with the Heroes of Ascalon (Devona and company). So basicly put Important NPCs in the place of the players character.

QFT. I'd buy the books without question :P

Anywho, I'd definately buy books about the game, because I really enjoy reading, and really enjoy GW, so if they combine it, I don't see the problem.
Personally I would prefer the books to sort of be a historical account, like the manuals etc.

Great thinking Anet!

Cool info there. I'd definitely buy these books, this is a great idea to fill up the gap between the two games. I just hope the books are going to be sold awhile before the actual GW2 is.

I will most likely buy the first book. If the writing is decent enough to make me care about the characters, then I will buy the other two books as they are published.

I think GW is wonderful but will not waste money to buy books I won't read. A good writer is a must.

So does that mean the book lore will not be what we will experience in GW2?

I enjoyed reading the GW1 lore on the official site, so I'm certainly looking forward to this. I'm concerned the novels will focus too much on the personal struggles of the characters rather than the setting, although I suppose that people are responsible for the shaping of the world.

I'd be willing to buy these
