Player vs. Player is innately competitive.

What part of this do you people not understand.

And Tauricis, the "Post Your Fastest Elite Times" thread showed that the same animosity comes up between PvE guilds as it does between PvP guilds.

Yes, I'm in a PvE guild, and yes these days I unfortunately PvE more than I PvP.

But I can say with certainty that PvE'ers on a whole can be as stupid and immature as the 'PvPers' they demonize.

What most PvE'ers don't understand is that most PvPers PvE as well and are pretty good at it.

And if you're doing PvP for the title then you really shouldn't be doing PvP.

This thread is full of ignorance.

The thing is, most people do DoA for the cash... there are multiple ways of getting cash in GW. There is only one way of getting fame in GW - HA.
Does that really make it any less discriminative?

And what about people who just want to see the areas, much like the people who just want to play HA?

It's also not entirely fair to compare gold to fame, since fame only gets you one think: a flashy emote and a title.

Why don't you just make some friends to play HA with?

It's really that easy.

Simple answer:

If im rank 9, i would much rather work with other r9+'s then unranked kids.

It's still easier to get PvE rank than it is to get PvP rank.

There's not really much to see in PvE, just a region full of the same old monsters over and over again.

Same for PvP - the same maps, just filled with different idiots.

I can understand where you're coming from. Getting groups for HA is a catch 22.

I used to be frustrated by rank discrimination, then I actually learned how to play in HA and I finally understood why there is rank discrimination. It's unfortunate, but it does happen. I got to my r3 mostly by monking for no rank pugs. It was slow, it was not easy, sometimes it was a little frustrating. It was amazing if I ever got more than 2 fame in a single run.

Once you have a visible rank, it starts getting a little easier to join groups, even if they're still not very good. But, see, what you can earn from this is, if you're decent, other decent people will start adding you to their friends list. This is how ALL people started getting rank. You know other people. And in some cases, you know other people who know other people. I got to r5 by getting invited to a group by knowing someone who knew someone who needed another player and I ended up being decent enough that I became a regular in their groups. This led to me meeting other decent people who thought I was decent. A couple of times I was invited into r9+ groups as r3, simply because I knew people. See where that goes?

If you tried, instead of getting frustrated and all flamey about it, maybe you could put yourself into a better position to earn some rank because good people DO still exist. My boyfriend and I are higher ranked than everybody else in my guild. The great majority of my guild have never even stepped foot in HA. They don't know how to kite, they don't understand anything about tactics, they have no idea what to do on what maps. We're taking the time to teach them some of the basics so that we can take them HAing with us so we can start showing them the ropes. I am quite positive there are other guilds that do the same, as I have NEVER ONCE been in a guild that wasn't willing to help me learn and bring me along. Part of that reason is because I was not whiny and disrespectful, I was willing to learn, and I listened to what I was told because I knew that they had more experience than I did.

People who discriminate with a poor attitude are just as bad as the people who outright label anybody with rank as being those kind of PvPers. There's several of the latter in this thread, I hope you can see your hypocrisy.

That doesn't mean the discrimination is "better".

A large difference though, that's been mentioned a few times already in this thread, is that fame is just an indicator of experience. You can still get a good group of players together - regardless of rank - and as long as you're good you can still win it.

But in PvE, your title relates directly to how well you do. Lightbringer, Sunspear, Norn - all are tied to PvE skills and other bonuses. So even though you're a really good player, you'll be less desirable than an equally skilled player with a higher title rank.

Of course, for PvE, you can just make you're own group...which you can also do for PvP. That just further shows how similar each group is. Both have people that discriminate, both have drama, both have numerous alternatives. HA isn't the "end all be all" of PvP, just as DoA isn't for PvE.

How does this explain all the idiotic r10 Ursans who don't seem to know what the aggro bubble is?

How does this explain that R12 Rit who tried to spear a 'swayer to death while standing still?

Both have their fair share of misleads.

Probably one of the more intelligent posts in this thread, and probably on Guru for quite some time.

Many, while they understand that PvP is different than PvE, simply aren't willing to learn from their mistakes. The thing is that PvE has so many safety nets that one is simply cushioned into a mentality of having things the way they want it.

PvP will not grant you this - you are forced to improve yourself and actually work for it. That's the fun of it. The problem is that PvE is fairly instant gratification while PvP is not. The catch is that PvP has a more valuable reward at its end, and most people would prefer to have the HA tiger than some silly eternal sword. Unfortunately, you have to work for that tiger, you can't just load up on cons and Ursan to annihilate stuff 1000s of times for it.

LOL wow are you serious? Do not blame GW for your own socializing problems. Just gotta be charming.

Yet another person believing things should be handed to them on a silver platter.

I know what he meant, but that's a bad suggestion when International District (the one that might have people in it) has nobody to group with except people that are looking for actual ranked people.

like i've found out in the past both areas of gw are filled with idiots from time to time just like in every other game and sadly enough in this world -_-

every game where there is competion there will be a bit of elitism, i've got my fair share of pvp'ing in freelancer and while it's a total different game i think the same tactic applies to gw.

I would rather have fun together with someone i know is good and actually knows what he's doing than an idiot running around and getting him/herself killed. That's the reason why there is a rank in gw, most people having a high rank know the maps and know what to do.

But indeed as said in some previous post build up a friendslist and go out together with those people in HA, slowly you'll earn what longer playing people allready have earned namely experience and in the end a rank title too

Taurucis , if you put the same effort into making groups as you do crying on these forums you'd be a success in no time.
