I think the the three classes - Dervish, Paragon and Ritualist will be gone in GW2. There will be some new classes - would be good if each race gets an unique one e.g. Charr Shaman .

I think they shouldn't cut any professions but should, instead, fix the 10 occurring ones.
Though, honestly, I was really interested in seeing how a Chronomancer would have worked. What other profession were they considering for Utopia?

Well they said 10 or less, and right now there are 10 professions. It's possible that they will keep them all. But the ones that are endangered are probably the non-core ones (dervish, paragon, ritualist, assassin). Personally that's okay with me, I'm just concerned with the ranger.
I do hope mesmers don't get the cut though because they're my second fave profession to play. But yeah, my guess is they'll keep the six core professions for sure and maybe the others, not sure.
I've also heard rumors of new professions as well, so it's possible they'll keep the core professions and and use the Utopia professions they were going to add so that we'll still get to experience them. I just hope that all professions are available to all races.

Dervish Paragon Assassin and Ritualist should all go I think. Why? 1. These proffesions kind of ruined the game-along with other factors. 2. Isn't GW 2 going to back set back in Tyria? I don't think those professions would fit...

I think they'll just be getting rid of the name. Like Ranger for instance... just another type of warrior. So like...
Ranger/Warrior/Assassin- One class... Fighter- All the fighters/killers.
Ritualist/Monk- One class... Priests- All the mystics.
Elementalist/Mesmer/Necromancer- One class... Mages- All the casters.
Dervish/Paragon- One class... Paladin?- Holy Warriors? Honestly I think these two may get the boot if any do.
The dev team knows that a large chunk of the GW2 buyers will be GW1 players. I doubt they would remove too much. I'm guessing they are working on a more diverse and robust system than what we have now, and people will love the flexibility it offers.

Why thank you ^_^ lol. Thanks everyone for the feedback! Getting back on topic: I have a hypothesis. If Guild Wars 2 is (and I hope it is) a prophecies makeover, which it may well be to begin with, the core professions will be the only ones to stay. Later on, they may, as with Factions and Nightfall, make a Factions 2 and a Nightfall 2, returning the said non-core professions. It's a possibility; we're all just speculating anyway.
Also, on the topic of professions, I would absolutely love it if races were purely cosmetic. It would be so boring if only norns could be melee and asurans only spellcasters. When I make my Sylvari I want her to be an assassin damn it! ^^. Knowing arenanet, this may be unlikely, but we can all hope. I hope they release some gw2 info asap.

I see there is now a little more info on gw2 on the main website.
It seems the mysterious Sylvari are Sentient Plants, I didn't see that coming being convinced they would be the Elves of popular fantasy.
No comment on classes or level cap though

I like this idea and I think a ranged weapons expert class would be nice then have a melee weapons experts class. Then we could easily cut down on the amount of classes.

I would like to believe that assassins, ritualists, paragons and dervishes would be at least on the chopping block, however, I feel like they will keep assassins to cater to the naruto Xx Assassin Killer Xx fags.

I'm pretty sure that information was released when they told us about the Sylvari. Maybe it was just drowned out by all the people complaining about how GW2 was turning into WoW because they were adding "elves" (not saying that's what you did though).

Why not? In EotN, we see Ritualist and Paragon Charr and Norn. However, as far as I know, we don't see any Assassins or Dervish among any of the what-will-be-playable races, so it might be that they'll get cut. Also, I agree with the handful of people that say Monks might get cut. We already know that GW2 will be soloable. So that, at least to me, implies that every profession will have some abilities to keep themselves alive.
Personally, I really hope the Ritualist doesn't get cut. It's by far my favourite profession in GW. There's something appealing about being able to take several spirits along with you (with the help of the Kurzick/Luxon skill "Summon Spirits") as well as 10 minions provided by Livia, and occasionally, if I feel like having a bit of a laugh, 4 pets as well. So, in other words, as long as I have the ability to be a spirit spammer in GW2, I'll probably be just as content. I wouldn't complain if they merged all the binding rituals (and any related spells) into the Necromancer, although I would prefer to still look like a Ritualist (hopefully they'll have better character customisation in GW2, so that may not be an issue). As far as I'm concerned, they can get rid of all the rest of the ritualist skills (I never understood why people wanted to play their Ritualist like an air elementalist. I tried it for awhile, but I didn't really enjoy it... Probably because I didn't enjoy playing an actual elementalist).

Well, I think it's worth mentioning that armours are going to be cross class according to what I read. I mention this here because a part of the classes is the look as well. I would suspect, or it least would hope, that if there will be fewer classes that it will mean combining classes. It would effectively mean that classes will get one or two more skill trees or a lot of skills will get filtered. I could see for example the merging of warriors and paragons as a single handed weapons class and rangers, sins and dervishes being merged as a two handed weapon specialist. Also the Ritualist could disappear as a class and be represented in other classes. Spirits can go to the necro as a summoner skill list, restoration can go to the monk and channeling can be merged with the ele lightning skills.
A lot of excess spells can be discarded this way and you have a few more options as far as combat characters are concerned.
And this way 6 classes remain without really losing the other classes.

If I got to choose I'd get rid of assassins. There are so many problems with the game mechanics of assassins in both PvE and PvP that the whole profession should be scrapped.
However, I don't get to choose, lots of people love their imba assassins, so I'd say that if a profession is removed, ritualist would be the most likely target. I mean, seriously - who loves ritualists?

I love my paragon and I would hate it to be merged into a warrior for GW2 because warriors are boring and overused...I liked playing paragon because so few people played it. It felt like an accomplishment when I did something people thought a paragon player couldn't do. I'd like to see all of the professions from gw1 go to gw2. If that can't happen then I want all of the current profs to be scrapped and create new ones based off of the old ones. I think the problem with gw1 professions is that they don't grow much. You start with being able to learn anything available to you without actually learning anything. In gw2 I hope to see more growth in the professions and the overall characters.

Me too , a melee and ranged weapons class in the D2 mould would suit me just fine.
