here's to hoping that something that takes talent shall win, like a painting.
i don't know if i'd say drawing, because i'm kinda unimpressed by a majority of peoples drawings, including the ones that got honroable mention last year, you may ask my reasoning behind this, simply, drawing i personally see as something that anyone can do given the appropriate amount of time, yes, skill and talent is defined by being quick to finish it with the same quality in less time, but even so.

Not necessarily true. That's just what a few people have said. We have no idea what the majority opinion of the GW community wants, simply because most of them don't bother to make their opinions known. Guru and other sites most likely don't make up the majority of the game's population. We just make up the loudest part.

So? What is your problem?
I did participate in various contests and I received my prizes at home and I live in Australia.

In this case you can't compete unless you're from the US, Canada, or Europe. So no Australians allowed in this competition.

With a stupid comment like that, I would have to think you wouldn't know art if it came up and smacked you in the face.
Although I do agree that the winner last year was a bit mah.
But, none the less there are many many types of art, not just putting pencil to paper.

Lrntoread imo. Australian's can't enter. As the only change is that they are sending physical prizes, that must be the reason why we are not included THIS time.

Or, you could be happy winning, without giving a rat's ass about the prizes. You know, acknowledgment of your artistical soul and all.

If art can smack you in the face, it probably isn't art...
therefore, cosplay≠art

1) Costumes ≠ cosplay. Learn the difference.
2) I will defend my winning because my costumes were very good. Making them did take talent, so enough of the bloody pot shots.
Quote:
Sketch a costume by hand or on the computer. If you're extra creative, make that costume and model it in a photograph.

Stop the jealous griping already. It was a valid entry and as many people have PMed me it deserved to win.

Wait, cosplay costumes take time, effort, sewing and skill to put together. I would consider it art... because I've seen some really bad cosplay and it obviously takes some sort of talent to produce something decent.
On that note, I wanted to do a *ahem* pumpkin so I'm guessing according to you guys that's not considered art? Because, it's a.... pumpkin. And even though it takes time and effort and some carving if it's not a drawing, a painting or some photoshopping skill it shouldn't count? I guess I'm just confused as to why something that has to be made (i.e. a costume) wouldn't be art because last I checked... everyone can hold a pencil and draw with "some" ability. I know fewer people who can sew and create something to wear.
I'm getting off track. Either way, good luck to all who enter and I do think bragging rights is a pretty good incentive to win. But hey, that's just me.

Discussions about what art actually IS Art are stupid.
Some dumbass even destroyed a museum and declared the rubble art.

I don't see why people are complaining about the costume makers winning, deabtes about art aside, it says in the description that things like costumes, carvings, etc are valid entries. This isn't a drawing/painting contest.
