Time for titles
I don't want replies centred on the worth of titles or how bad grindng is. The quesion is simple. If you use the most efficient method of maxing a title (without using bots) what is the maximum amount of time a title should take to max out?
PvE: How long?
PvP: How long?

If titles did not exist, then most of the gw population would have abandoned guild wars all together. They made a step in the RIGHT direction by adding titles. Most people who bought guildwars, wanted an alternative to a mmorpg. They wanted the game to last and be fun for a long time like traditional mmorpgs.
Over time A.net realized this and added things that would increase the longevity of the game. Hard mode, elite areas and titles. If it wasn't for those, the game would be half dead easily.
I think if you did like 6 hours of farming a day for like 2-4 months you can max the title with kurzick hfff.

That's an impossible question because everyone has different capacities for doing mindless repetitive tasks in the name of 'fun'. Regardless, titles on a whole are just a method for extending gameplay without having any actual 'game' being extended.
If everyone can do them, they're pointless
If they're insanely long, they serve no point but to drag out the game.

Well... you can figure out the math on your own. If you're looking at say treasure hunter, and you can get run 1 chest every 1:30 minutes including zoning time, you can get 10,000 chests in about 250 hours. or so. ymmv. you can maybe do it faster, maybe do it slower. PVP titles can't be figured that way, as they only give points if you win, and you can't really predict how much you'll win. You can set a goal of x points per day, and play till you hit that goal, but that's not really what you're asking for. It's really impossible to say.

It all depends on how you go about getting them:
If you AB your way to "savior" title, it will take you longer than going the HFFF route.
If you work on one title at a time it will take you longer than multi-tasking (Vanquish + Cartography + Skill Hunter)
Pre-nerf UB sped up the vanquishing process, some chose not to go that route.
Survivor title? There's so many ways to get this one it's hard to say which is faster.
I could go on and on listing variables involved here.

Depends on the title,i did vanquisher of cantha in 3 days last week, really its all in how much your willing to work, with a good setup most titles should take 2days-1week,not counting kurzick/luxon/lucky/unlucky/treasure hunter/wisdom(guessing you dont have afew mil laying around that your willing to dump into unid's) which will take a very long time.

in my opinion, about 50 hours is the longest a title should take to max (pve ones). thats about a month for a casual gamer, and maybe ten days for a hardcore one. i think they made some titles way too long to max.
pve titles teach people the value of having words under our name in an online game. i guess its different for everyone, but the easier it is to learn it the better. at first i thought it would be cool, but as i got them i realised it really didnt matter to anyone but yourself. its just a way of tracking your own accomplishments in a game...to everyone else it says "hey look at me i spent x hours doing the same thing in front of a computer".
i guess the exception to that is...when forming a pug in a high end area. you would probably take the person wearing "legendary explorer of the north" over the "vanquishing lightbringer" when doing duncan the black, for example.
pvp titles should go on forever i think
its kind of a rank system for skill and experience (until people find ways to get the rank without playing, as they always seem to do). it would be nice if they made more ranks in each tier and made the increments smaller (like between rank 12-15 hero)

Here's a rough estimate:
Vanquish & Cartographer Title:
Tyria (54), Cantha (33), Nightfall (34): 121 areas, approx 1.5 hours (vanquish) + 0.5 hours (cartographer) per area = 242 hours.
Skill Hunter Title:
290 Elite Skills: 5 minutes per capture = 25.2 hours
Guardian Title:
Tyria (25*2), Cantha (13*2), Nightfall (20*2): 1 hour per mission, add 0.5 hours per mission for cartographer in Tyrian mission = 128.5 hours
Survivor Title:
Getting to lv 20 (Started mine from Tyria) = 10 hours. (Includes Dwarven Boxing)
Getting Survivor: Need Approx 1,000,000 exp by the time you get to Lutgardis; 500 runs, at 2 minutes per run = 16.7 hours.
Master of the North Title:
Going through the game once and filling out the normal mission book: 15 hours?
Normal mode dungeons: 18 dungeons, 2 hours per dungeon = 36 hours
Hard mode missions: 11 mission, 1 hours per mission = 11 hours
Hard mode dungeons: 18 dungeons, 3 hours per dungeon = 54 hours
Vanquishing & Cartographer: 15 areas, 2 hours per area = 30 hours
Norn, Asura, Vanguard, Dwarven titles:
Vanguard: Turn in all books
Asuran: Repeat normal mode & hard mode mission 3 times each = 20 hours
Dwarven: While doing the dungeons, you get quite a bit. May need to turn in one completed hard mode book = 11 hours?
Norn: Same as Asuran = 20 hours
Drunkard Title:
10,000 minutes = 166.7 hours
Sweet tooth, Party Animal Title:
After buying them, depends how fast you can double click
Treasure Hunter Title:
1 Chest every two minutes = 333.3 hours
Wisdom Title:
Depends how fast you can ID
Kurzick Title:
25000 runs: 1 run every 2 minutes = 833.3 hours
or, if you double the transfer = 416.7 hours. (400 hours if you're done the Survivor Title)
Luxon Title:
25000 runs: 1 run every 3 minutes = 1250 hours.
Lucky/Unlucky Title:
After opening 10,000 chests, you should have about 1,500,000 points (Lucky) and about 50,000 (Unlucky). Many hours of AKFing... no need since you're not going to be sitting at your PC when "playing" the boardgames.
Total: 3602 hours + time for farming to buy/farm all the alcohol, sweets and party items + AFK games: should total up to about 900 hours.
Grand total = 4500 hours.
Good luck!
Edit:
Forgot Lightbringer & Spearmarshal:
Add 100 hours :P; 4600 hours

So many responses and only the The Red Messenger who actually answered the question. Obviously some clarification is in order.
1) I don't care what you think of titles. If you don't like them, big deal. That is not what the question is about.
2) I'm not trying to find out how long it takes ot get titles. I have a pile of them and know how long it took me to do them (although the previous respose was put in while Iwas writing this. Thanks for that)
3) I want to know how many hours you think it is reasonable to spend on maxing one title.
If you want to moan on about how bad titles are go to a different thread. That opinion has been expressed over and over again. Why I don' know. If you don't like titles don't do them. They are optional.
Some titles are quite quick (SS/LB) some are ridiculously long (Faction/ all PvP). So what is a reasonable time frame to complete a title?

Haha, I got too carried away. I meant to add how long it should take to max each of the ones I meantioned. But I'm going to agree with The Red Messenger: 50 hours should be adequate.

This.
However, since that won't happen now, for me, it depends. If a title gives no bonus (Survivor, Hero title, etc.) I don't care how long it takes.
The worst offenders are titles that do give a bonus, like the rep titles, lucky/unlucky, and the Allegiance titles. These titles shouldn't take long because the longer they take, it means there will be a smaller and smaller group of people at "max" power, while more and more are weaker than them, which is against the game design of this game.

Dude it takes MUCH lesser than you think I suppose
Because the time for a RAUGH vanq=30-40 min (for a 250-300 foe area)
The time to look for the GOD DAMN LAST patrol 20-30 min so its not 1:30 hour to vanq an area its 1 hour max
And books also take very little time
Only missions that take more than 15-20 min(HM and NM, they are really easy except destructions depths with is TOTALLY impossible unless you deactivate golems on the gate because if you cant kill every foe that spawn fast enough you will get 30-40 lvl30 foe agro which not EVEN CONSSET can save you :P)estructions Depths, Elusive Golemancer, Warband of Brothers MAYBE assault on stronghold ALSO MAYBE the dungeon quest of asurans IF YOU ARENT FAST 'nuff

Kurzick/Luxon from HFFF iirc is about 150hrs or something like that. I could be wrong.
For each of the titles that I have maxed ill list how long it takes.
Leg Survivor - Bout 25hrs fighting to hzh and hfffing it. Would probably be shorter from other methods, but I dunno.
Legendary Guardian: Approx 70hrs
Prot Tyria - 20hrs. No mission takes longer then an hr, so give or take that long including run time
Guard Tyria - 23hrs (lil longer coz harder)
Prot Cantha - 5hrs (8 if you dont have missions already accessed)
Guardian Cantha 6hrs
Prot Elona (8-10hrs)
Guard Elona (10-12hrs)
SS/LB bout 15-20hrs at sahlaja
Legendary Master of the North - 80hrs approx (assuming average 1hr per dungeon, 1hr per vanq)
Each eotn rep title (after that gained from) - 10-15hrs each
Legendary Skill Hunter 50 hrs approx.
Cantha - 12hrs
Elona - 15hrs
Tyria - 25hrs (random spawns)
Vanquisher
Only done elona , but longest vanq was an hr, no fails, overall about 25hrs to complete (including cartog). Extrapolating this for tyria and cantha.. probably 25hrs fo cantha, and about 50 for tyria.
So leg vanq ~ 100hrs
I think that covers it...
Obviously drunkard takes 10000 minutes + buying time (depending on what ur willing to spend, and how long u spend buying).
Party/Sweet Tooth = buying time.
Average HFFF = 30k towards title per hr iirc. That means that about 200hrs to max.
Wisdom = time to buy
The others just depend on how fast u run chests.
LDOA is like 400hrs, or something like that but alot of that is afk.

you want a general time frame for completing a title even though by your own admission titles aren't the same. and some also have more benefits than others (example PvP titles..the better the title generally the better the group meaning the better play experience). you can't simply put a single time frame for every title. like it was much more worthwhile to max norn than it is to do drunkard title. so why should the reasonable amount of time on them be the same? shouldn't the more useful one take longer? (even if it doesn't)
do you not see the logical fallacy in what your asking?

How many hours depends on the title. Imo, the length doesn't matter as long as there is minimal grind.
Give the Legendary Titles a month or two, if you actually work on them (unlike me) and play a single character, then you should have them down easily.
Reputation titles give about a day-1 week each if you grind, if you don't then give it as long as the Legendary Titles (some go hand in hand easily *bounties while vanquishing/skill capping/cartographering, and then LMotN). PvP titles, don't even try to max (If you want for HoM, then get rank 3 and put it aside like I plan to *eventually* do).

For me the biggest issue here really isn't how long it should take - but rather what it should take to get the title.
A title takes to long to max if you do EVERYTHING that makes you progress in the selected title ONCE and the title isn't maxed yet. (That doesn't mean one shouldn't be able to repeat the same thing over and over again if one chooses to do so (or they are unable to complete all the content) - but FORCING everyone to do so BECAUSE of lack of content is just stupid.)
(Of course there is the issue of titles such as Vanquisher where one does technically do everything just once - but that shit is just to boring for words. But at least they got the concept right.)
