personal opinion here - but the golems were griefing, and should at the least catch a temp ban for it.
i'd managed to catch a spot in dist 1 spamadan, and there was an asshat who found it amusing to camp over the mad king. figure, the district was full, and one person found it necessary to mess with the rest of the crowd? uncalled for.
really, if it was someone who'd gone afk in an unfortunate spot, then hey, whatever, REDENGINE happens, right? but when it's deliberate (as in, they're taking part in the event, just deliberately ruining it for others) they deserve the cyber equivalent to a boot-to-the-head.
i believe, by the end of the event, there had been at least 70+ reports on our particular asshat, which should be enough for Anet to realise someone has pissed off a whole district's worth of people....

You've been given the standard reply any griefer ever gives to anyone complaining about griefing.
A griefer has fun by compensating for their real-life feelings of inferiority by annoying people in the safe environment of the game. It's a powertrip: they've got the power to annoy you and you've not got the power to do anything about it.
Of course, that's not how the griefer sees it. They see it as that they're just having a bit of fun with the scrubs, and anyone who disagrees is a wet blanket, or, in MMO terms, a carebear.
Now, as griefing goes the Golemblock was a very minor one, and definitely not bannable, but I'm guessing ANet will take steps to avoid a repeat in future events anyway. ANet is very aware that people are assholes and, given the safety of the game, will take every opportunity to grief eachother, so they've consistently tried to make sure people are unable to grief.

Hahaha this thread is funny
I joined 3 times in Mad King Event but i didn't notice any Golem stealing the fun
I wanted all my chars to have the mask so i kept joining every three hours, until a guild mate borrowed my mask and reproduced it in the the festival hat npc only then i realized i didn't need to be there all the time
But really, this thread is funny Isn't calling them names not enough?

To OP, seems like no matter what district I went to there were a bunch of golemtards all standing blocking view of the king. I know that you don't need to see the king an all, but if you hold in ctrl & alt you don't need to see the monsters or npc's, but where would the fun be in that?
Shouldn't all these stupid golems be out trick or treating with mum and dad on Halloween anyway? Kids today lool
Ps. Some peeps who don't use wiki, probably now think the Mad King is a Golem

I'm not sure if the griefers, the crying abused, or the armchair psychologists are the most funny in this thread.
But it's making my job as a mod more interesting.

I agree we are being carebears so lets let the golems have their fun.
All ready for winterfest are we, Be real fun trying to find the drops and beat the grenchies with Golems covering all the npcs.
Cannot wait for the Dragon festival never seeing the Emperor trying to take the parts for the banquet to the cooks with Golems around.
The future all indicates FUN FUN FUN well for golems anyway.

I love the "arguments" of the pro-griefers.
You could go to another district. Same applies to spamming all chat, no?
You should stop being a care-bear. Ad hominem FTW!
There's world hunger, dude. Non sequitur FTW!
You make me feel bad by criticizing this on a forum. Candidate for dumbest post of the thread.
It doesn't bother me, so it shouldn't bother you. Narcissism FTW!
Those of you opposed to the griefing, however, should have a little sympathy for the other side. Something like 70% of people who bully or grief were physically or sexually abused by an older relative when they were a child. They try to hurt others to help them deal with that pain. A little compassion is appropriate.

I find it rediculous that people wnat tonics to be unusable duing an event, that is one of the main purposes of tonics. They are even given out during these events.
People gather as close as possible to him tonic or no. I see the complainers as annoyed just because they couldn't do the same themselves.

Oh okay, so you start the post off with massive generalisations that are mostly irrelevant in this thread, and then follow up with some psychology to make yourself seem as though you aren't just another guy in your mothers basement. Nice try, but you fail.

I have no "real-life feelings of inferiority." I have a fine job, going to uni, and my computer is up-to-date on specs. I play music in my spare time, smoke hookah with friends every weekend, I'm not teased or picked on, and I've never been abused as a child. I'm about as happy as I care to be. If you want to imagine that I'm trying to compensate for something, keep living in your dream world, but reality says differently.
The part about a power trip is arguably true, but it's pretty generic to the entire internet. Anonymity breeds asshattery in many cases. But no, I don't grief people because I can, I grief because it's so funny to watch. Have you ever seen a comedian perform? Where they do or say silly things that make you laugh? Griefing is like that, except the roles are reversed; everyone else is saying stupid things and I'm just there being insanely amused.
Trolling in-game is generally hard. Hats off to ANet for giving us something that required nothing more than standing still. Great thinking on their part tbh - they banned MOX from PvP because he's too big to see around, yet they didn't think that maybe the golem tonics would do the same thing?

Wrong. Plenty of people can disagree with us and not be carebears. Some people simply derive no humor from it. Some find it funny but would rather just enjoy the show. Those people aren't carebears.
A carebear is someone who acts like an idiot about it - the people who spam "omg move golems" in all chat (a bannable offense), break the EULA by personally attacking other users (a bannable offense), and who abuse the report system by reporting players who are standing still (a bannable offense).
Lastly, and here's something you completely failed to consider... Halloween 2008 is exactly the same as halloween 2005. They added a new hat, a new joke in the dialog, but overall, it's the same event it always was.
Guess what?
That's boring.
I've been to three halloweens so far (I hadn't started playing by 05), and I've seen the jokes, gotten the hats, and have enjoyed partying in guild halls by dancing in candy corn tonic form. However, I no longer enjoy that. ANet has added no new content - except for these neat tonic things that make me 20 feet tall. Instead of sitting around for 30 minutes of boring, 3-year-old dialog, being bored out of my mind, I combined two of ANet's creations into one - golem tonics and Halloween.
I feel a little remorse for any new players that suffered (somehow?) because of my guarding the Mad King. If it was their first Halloween, it was probably special, and they were likely very into the celebrations. However, bawwwwwwwwwwwwww. I said a little remorse, not a lot.

Players in town are /noclip, you can walk right through a golem, or stand inside it. The golem doesn't hinder anything but view.

So you didn't like the event and felt you should therefore ruin it for any scrub who otherwise might.
Enjoy your powertrip.

I'm doing my PhD on this topic and I need some help. Can one of you folks please outline the correlation between 'not physically seeing King Thorn' and 'the event being ruined'? It's important to my thesis making any sense at all.

What you guys don't understand is that I was paid by the Mad King himself to block him from carebear onlookers. Last time he looked at a carebear he lost a day's worth of meals. I was hired to ensure that wouldn't happen! So really it isn't the golems that are the problem it's the carebears that are ruining the fun.
