Typical Anet.
Nobody said or implied that HFFF was hard to do. It's just and incredibly boring, mundane, grindy and repetitive process of point farming that contradicts GW's ethos.

The title is difficult to earn because of the sheer length of time required.

People should have a bit of trust in Anet to look through each case individually. Like someone said before, they simply could have been using G15 or whatever it's called, which Gaile said was okay to use.. Hopefully the accounts that have been botting for ages will get perma-banned.

Just the same as I wouldn't be mad at ANet for introducing a magic Vanquish Everything button. Wouldn't have any challenge, would have long dumped the game...

In all honesty, botting doesn't affect me personally so it's not my own top priority. Unfair, yes, but if you need a bot to do something, it means you don't wanna work for it, therefore shouldn't be able to get the results. I'd be more focused on banning major exploit users, extremely rude people, leechers and griefers.
So much truth in this post, it is a game, if you don't have fun doing something, then don't do it. Games are supposed to be for fun remember ^_^

For those who want to instantly condemn Anet for this, lets actually read what she's saying first.

This action is focusing on those caught during the weekend. Probably means first time botters or casual players hoping to make good progress on an insanely long title.

In this specific instance, the team has decided to convert account terminations to two-week suspensions. This will be on an individual, case-by-case basis, and is expected to take several days. They do not foresee making an exception like this again in the future.
This is a one time only warning for first time botters.

The Live Team is currently working hard to rebalance these titles so that players will not feel as if they need bots to earn them. These title rebalance changes are expected to be integrated into the game with the next big game update.
They realize finally that they screwed up and are going to fix the mistake. Not like it's the first time it has happened, and probably won't be the last.

So before all of you go off the deep end saying Anet condones botting, remember that this is a warning to the casual gamers who gave in to temptation during the weekend event. No where does it say they are relaxing any of their other bot detection techniques, or are going to allow botting to continue.

You assume this - based on no evidence to back this up - could just as easily be "first time caught on that IP"

As much as I hate to say it, this is unfair to anyone else who has been permabanned as a "first time botter". who knows if people got banned before using a G15 or equivalent? I dont, you dont and Im sure anet dont.

So what about the person using a G15 that doesnt read guru? Are they to be perma banned because they didnt know? Sorry - a one time thing doesnt work.

Although I found this annoucement quite surprising, I must say that there's an important point of Regina posts that people seemed to have overlooked:

I'm not sure if it's more fair since some people may not have done that as a habit (constantly using bots), but just because there was a double points week-end and the title is indeed quite hard to max, or if it's more unfair to all the people who behaved the same way before the double pointsd week-end. It's good the see something happening, but not sure if it's that good.

Most importantly, it seems to send a mixed message to the community. She clearly indicated that "we do not condone the use of bots", yet the rule has been broken on this one instance, based on the quite amazing acknowledgement that "this portion of the game is so unbalanced and difficult". That short statement alone make me wonder whether there's something wrong on the way that Anet perceives "difficulty", or we're simply wrong in our perception of the whole "community" (i.e., Guru is not representative).

I'd like to see similar annoucements on the topic of GW2, along the lines of "While we will not release any significant information about GW2, the GW1 community has grown so impatient that we feel we should release some kind of information"...

In defense of Regina, I'd say that if any reputable enough source or member of ANet staff made this statement, everyone would rage just as much. Likewise, in the past when Regina has brought us positive news, many have expressed gratitude for sharing that information with us. A different person would have resulted in the same reaction.

Regina isn't important here. The fact that people facing account termination are getting back on GW is what everyone should be upset about.

I'm on ArenaNets side on this one. ArenaNet created a problem, albeit by accident, by making certain titles difficult. They are merely sympathising with the botters, who want to play to get titles without being forced into demoralising sweatshop conditions... therefore they bot.
They want to send out a message that botting is wrong, but also not be too hard because they technically forced them into that style of "play".

GG Anet.

However, i do pity those who miss out on Halloween because of what they have done. Perhaps Anet next time could punish players by stopping all drops and quest rewards for X period, if known to be using a faction bot.

I would like to see more done to BAN those who leech/leave in Aspenword though. They are seriously annoying and ruin the game for everyone.

Anet - please punish quitters and leechers! Delete a skill, make them lose 1k faction, give them an attribute point reduction... something.

They got that ban because they botten only there, and only far that.
I assure you that those whom botted for anything else too received the usual permanent ban.

They know that the fault is part theirs, so the punishment was not capital. That's all.

And what about those people who already got their r12? Spit in their faces, nothing less. And yes, I do know whole bunch of people who earned their r12 by means of AB only with zero FFF involved.

Just lost all hope in Guild Wars. Are they promoting botting now? I HATE botters, FYI anet, not only do they ruin the title, but also the in-game economy! These kids can easily get over 100k an hour botting. Person charges 100g per person X 3 people, 300g. 300 + his 125 = 425g a run. 25 runs for max faction = 10,625gold per ~27mins. Thats over 21k an hour on one account. Most botters run 4 or 5 from what I've seen.

So they earned the title fair and square. *That* is something nobody can take away from them. For the rest of their life, they'll be able to stand proud and tall and say: "I earned my Faction title".

Of course, whether that is worth spending 1000 hours clicking the same 3 buttons is another thing.
