My new farming superstition
Raptor farming for event items. It's my habit to do an hour at a time, and count the drops/hour. I find my drop rates are remarkably consistent, only varying by about 10% over any given hour.
Today, I was farming as usual, then took a break - setting my status to "Away". I came back and started farming again, but didn't change my status... And my drop rate was 1/3 (33%) lower.
As I said, I tend to monitor my drop rates... and the lower rate stood out like a sore thumb. "Well this sucks" I thought, but carried on. Then I happened to check guild status to see if anyone had logged on and noticed I was still set to "away".
I set my status to back to "online", and it was like pressing a "moar phat lewtz pl0x" button! My drop rate immediately shot back up to its normal level.
Yes, it was probably just a run of bad luck. But who knows? I will be careful to check my online status in future! O_o

So you got bad drops for an hour? That means nothing if you've been farming for ages. Get bad drops consistently (at the very least, do 10 hours), and then it would be worth looking into. Besides, why would it matter what your status is set to?

I do not claim any statistical significance, I would have thought that was obvious in my OP, and my use of the word "superstition" in the title. And indeed, why would online status make any difference?
But I don't care. From now on, I intend to always check my status is "online" when farming... and (covers ears) "LA LA LA! I'M NOT LISTENING!" to all you nay-sayers!

Jeez lighten up people, get a sense of humour. I'm just sharing what I saw. It doesn't hurt to check you're "online" while farming... and there's a remote/superstitious possibility that it helps.
No, I'm not going to join the "serious" brigade, or investigate further - that would entail deliberately trying to lower my drop rates, and I'm not going to do that to prove anything either way.

LOL. I have lots of other superstitions too, some I actually believe in (with no real scientific/statistcal basis). Several are to do with farming, and one involves the Zaishen chest where I've had 2 Everlasting tonics pop out - and yet I only reached rank 2 Zaishen.
Think I'll keep those to myself though, since it seems I need "proof", statistically meaningful data, a point to discuss blah blah, and I have none of those things to back up my superstitions. Otherwise they wouldn't be superstitions.

if you have 2 keys the second one always a gold of something. 1st one still crappy creme brulee.
Oola is Britney spears in disguise actually. but that would be an insult to oola.

oh, hey, you know what, i always think if you are in a district where there are more players, your drop rate will be considerably lower, even if they are not with you while yours out farming.

I'm a believer!
Well, kind of. Farming in the morning, UK time, when few people are about and the US hasn't woken up yet... I can get 180 event items dropped from Raptors in 1 hour. That NEVER happens in the afternon/evening when lots of people are online - the rate drops to about 150 in the afternoon and 140 in the evening (evening rate I think is due to slower loading times when zoning back to town).
Me, I attribute this directly to the number of people in town (rather than in my district).

I have heard of this before and I also seem to get better drops early in the morning versus the evening. I believe it might have to do with a game limit on drops or limit of quality of drops per hour to prevent economy saturation. Thus the more people out farming/playing the less drops/quality drops to be had.
I also believe drops are affected by hero/henchs versus humans and it is easy to test I have done it.
Just VQ Dalada in HM with an 8 man H&H team and count your drops then go on a all human HM CoF run and count your drops. When I have done it I found that doing CoF I have gotten a lot more drops and better drops with less kills than you get VQing Dalada with an H&H team.
