I've had LDoA since July '07. I mostly hunt charr, open the gate for others to hunt charr, trade sometimes, help out newbies, collect holiday items to work toward titles, collect minipets, and chat with people in town. As for money, pre-searing has its own economy, and while the items being traded are a lot more limited since there are fewer things in pre- than in the game overall, the value of trades is still significant. (There are plenty of trades happening that could go in High End, most I've seen would be for rare minipets.)
Ultimately PvE ends up boiling down to farming, title grinding, and chatting with people regardless of whether you're in pre-searing or post-searing. Pre- is just a different, smaller scale environment to do it in.
EDIT: There's at least 3 KoaBD's I've seen in pre-searing. Besides account wide titles, there are people with max Drunkard, Party Animal, and Sweet Tooth in Pre-.

if the person in the pic is Villnar Shadowblade he has Saviors, LdOA, sweet, and booze.
KoaBD doesnt mean much in pre nemore. Wisdom, treasure, lucky, unlucky are all easy to get + a Savior, LdOA, booze, w/e
Personally i just play in pre for fun when i get bored of other GW..

Most has been said. I like it because its such a relaxed place to just pop in for some mindless time. I also farm charr bags. They look like real packs, not the sorry looking sacks in post searing.
for elf. add sweet tooth, party and drunkard. NO way I would do that in pre....hmmm :0

Again, not really. It doesn't take very long to hit a level suitable to go death level charr at. After that its all deathleveling and AFK I don't see how being away from the computer takes up your time O.o

I usually hang in Pre-sear to take a break or because I don't feel like doing anything at the moment. Anything else done in perma-pre is secondary.

I've single handedly killed the Charr responsible for the Searing, so I don't know what Prince Rurik is talking about.

i probably know the answer to this already, but what's the best profession to perma pre with? (i'm going to guess wa/mo) but i seemingly remember it was a good time with my ele..

I left my lvl 11 ranger in pre over a year ago.
In hopes of devs redesigning LDoA. Can't be bothered to AFK death-level. I want to play.
And actually defend Ascalon.

It is (party window is not obscured).
For my own part I have a few different perma-pre characters, since I was trying to figure out which profession I liked in pre. Turns out ranger is my favorite, but for a long time my only perma-pre was a monk (who now acts as a gate opener for my perma-pre ranger on my primary account, and also acts as a mule).
My ranger is level 16, so it should be time to start death leveling, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Not sure if I ever will -- with a perma-pre, it's not like I'll be able to put a statue in the Hall of Monuments.
But I do enjoy just hanging around pre-searing Ascalon at times, answering questions and chatting with random people.

Gonna post a few things here from what I know, clear some things up perhaps...
1. You can get LDoA in about a month if you Death Level at least daily, usually twice a day at that rate - guildie of mine has two LDoAs, did 'em each in a month each or so. I'm working on one, just don't have all the time to set up though D: (Stuck at level 18)
2. Just 'cause you have LDoA doesn't mean you're god-like, big crowd has it, it's nothing "special" (anymore) - big thing now is titles and cash/minis/etc.
3. At least 2 people had KoaBD BEFORE the Treasure Hunter/Wisdom account merge, and I'm sure quite a few more have it now that it has become merged.
I believe the first KoaBD was only a few months ago, so it is recent
4. Most Perma-Pre's just farm, trade, buy, etc. - It's more of a social place, but there is alot of profit to be made with stuff in Pre, things can get expensive.
5. I would say the "big" Pre-titles right now are Life of the Party and Con. of Confects. - Rich people D:
Pre can be fun, and you get used to seeing the same people over and over again

Pre-searing is good for one thing;
/ranking scrubs who think their Deer is impressive.

Meh.
Nothing beats trashing a guy (in PvP of course!), who trashed you a minute ago and then showed his emote, followed by the /bow emote and the announcement in the local chat that you can't do the rank emote because you don't have it ...
The special moments that GW offers ...

Actually, the best possible one is Mesmer. Empathy, Backfire, and Shatter Delusions is a killer combination in pre, and having Ether Feast as a self-heal to boot is pretty shweet. My mesmer is Level 17.68, with a pet and no secondary (woot woot for not accepting quest rewards).
As for the OP, pre is a lot more social than other parts of GW. For the most part, trade is limited, so that doesn't clutter, and it functions just like a port city when it comes to chat. To an extent, people are more willing to partner in pre (heck, I've done it with my mesmer even when it gives me zero XP) than in post, so that's another plus.
And yes, Meros Enclusian has black armor and 2 minis.
