Gaile specifically mentioned a new website (which probably is just the redesigned guildwars.com) and tons of info about GW2 in the coming year, back in 2007. Someone with better forum digging skills than I can find the source, but I'm 100% sure she told us there would be a lot of exciting stuff happening this year. Another example of her over-promising; whether it was her fault or not I can't say.
Unless, of course, ANet gives us all a nice little Wintersday gift of some info, *hinthint*.

First off, they are in the beginning phase of the game. It's impossible to expect there would be definitive information, or the process for that matter.
In '09 the least they might do is a small beta. Otherwise I honestly think we might not know much about it for most of the year. It's a big project, as I understand it. Things like this could take either a year or 3+ years. If anyone wants the game to be an awesome experience, ask for more time so they can use it to add in more good stuff so we all can enjoy. With that note, hope for the best, embrace the worse (being it be the long wait time.)

Here ya go
To be honest, I never expected the game to be released anytime before late 2009/early 2010 anyway. However, I was expecting to have a lot of concept art, screenshots, and overall advertising at this point - or maybe even not a lot, but some of the aforementioned tidbits

We have a lot of exciting plans for Guild Wars 2 in 2008. A lot.
For one thing, you can look for a newly-designed website in the coming year. We're going to launch what will be pretty much a totally new site, while keeping the existing site going, as well.
For another, we'll be showing off Guild Wars 2 in concept art, in-game cinematics, screenshots, wallpapers, and much more. There will be so much to learn about Guild Wars 2, and we can't wait to show it to you!
We'll have a lot of Guild Wars 2 contests, too!
And of course you know we plan the Guild Wars 2 beta test in 2008.
So this is definitely an exciting year coming up!
Anything bolded out is false.

He found it, not me. This is specifically what I was referring to in the opening post. The beta being put off was expected and relayed by anet. However, I'd like to see this other crap they had intended to do this year. Id say '09's the charm, but I think its 3rd times the charm.
'10 OH YEAH

Yeah, first they were saying the beta would be 2008, then they were saying Q1 2009, IIRC, which doesn't look like it's happening either. Quite frankly I'm fine with that, as it gives me more time to get past the midyear school crunch and push my HoM a little further. I would, however, like to hear something about it. I'm not asking for screenies/detailed descriptions/whatever as of yet, but some more concept arts or info on whether the old professions are being kept would be beneficial.
Nonetheless, I don't care when GW2 gets released, so long as it gets released (well, preferably some time before I get carted off to college :P). I'd rather they take a good long while on this. I played KotOR 2, and I know how games get butchered when they're shoved out the door too early. Still, info IS a good thing. I'm already starting to see the word "vaporware" applied to it here and elsewhere.

The only thing about GW 2 we know is the... situation in the world 250 years later.
We don't know anything about classes. Level cap. PvE/PvP. Beta. NOTHING about the game itself.

Releasing anymore info would mean they have to work on the game to create it...and we all know if they actually had anything done it'd be shown or we'd have been given a beta.
Yea. I went there.

Face it, GW2 is vaporware, plain and simple until they show evidence otherwize. Hell even starcraft ghost had screenshots.
And worries about other companies ripping them off is just stupid, most concepts are already proven or tested in other games already. Really were any of the 10 classes in gw really unique?

Face it people, there most likely won't be a thing till Aion has been out for some months.
AA and TR failed in a massive way, and the NCSoft is not doing well, the last thing they need now is releasing two possible rivaling games of their own at the same time and therefore wasting even more money.

Agree... I mean, Aion is in beta's in Korea now, it's super awesome and I would play it if I could (but I don't know Korean so I'm enjoying City of Heroes). US/EU betas are in 2009. Release is in late 2009, probably second half.
Guild Wars 2's beta will be probably after Aion's Korean beta ends (so after it's released in Korea, before world-wide release), and Guild Wars 2 will be released (if at all) in 2010.
I told you so, but you didn't listen.

I keep seeing threads about other games - Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan, Hellgate London, etc. that complain how they were rushed to market and under-delivered on what was promised.
Yet here, once again, is another GW2 thread complaining that ArenaNet is not rushing to market and overpromising on what will be delivered.
Do you guys want another junk game or something that will be worth what you spend on it? ANet can see what is going on in the world of on-line games. They do not want to set traps for themselves.
@upier - I agree, a thread on 9-rings AFKing would have been more exciting.

You see there is this thing called Industrial espionage where companies try to discover all they can about rival companies new products.
It would be pretty silly to broadcast this information too early, it would give the rival companies too much of an edge.

This is gw2, there won't be any revolutionary features to the mmo world. Its goin to be a bunch of WoW-like crap.

Yeah. Because clearly asking for even RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing concept art is clearly asking for Guild Wars II to be rushed to market.
Your game is vaporware fanboy.

I think the problem is they announced it waaaaaay too early. You oughtn't announce a game when you're barely concepting it - that's like announcing a pregnancy to your whole family the minute you find out; it's just too early to be sure anything will come of it. However, if they hadn't said anything about it then, people would have been even more unhappy because ANet would have had no excuse for how EotN failed to deliver. So they're screwed either way. I'd been planning on doing the beta and seeing how good it is... but the beta looks like it shan't materialize any time soon. Heck, if I don't see at least another concept art (c'mon, guys, one little picture for the Sylvari? I want to know more about them!), I'm probably joining the vaporware crowd. Seriously, ANet - The Old Republic already has a few early screenies and it's only just been announced! I decided early on never to play 2 MMOs at once, but it looks like in a few years I'll get to play ST:tOR if things keep going the way they are now.
