Ode to the Offer
One of the biggest things that piss me off in this game, is the countless people that wont tell you how much they want for something.,
Me - WTB Superior Vigor
PlayerX - Offer?
Me - How much for it?
PlayerX - Offer?
Me - HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR IT?
PlayerX - Offer?
Me - Forget it!
Me - WTB Superior Vigor
Where does this come from? Is this just in Guild Wars?
What part of the world do you go into a store, and there are absolutly no prices..you just say ill offer you 50 bucks for that T.V.
Why cant people tell you what they want to sell something for?
Isnt it easier to just tell someone how much you want for it, instead of waiting untill someone offers something more than its worth?
Im guessing it has to be korean..like they used to do with trying to sell you stuff you didnt ask for. I would be somewhere and someone out of the blue would open trade with me, put 7 things in the window (that i didnt need or want) and say "offer"?
Excuse me if this is actually they way people actually trade in some part of the world, but it seems rather retarded.
Where did this offer system derive from?
Someone please help me here.

Umm, strange rant? People are trying to get the most they can for an item, and are hoping you'll offer more than they were going to ask for. If you do, they'll take your offer. If you offer less, they'll counter. No big mystery here....

I ignore anyone who says that kinda bs to me. Cause whenever i reply, it's always a greedy kid who goes "nt" as soon as you say a standard price. Just hoping you'll overpay for their stuff. If not, NT.

Because people wanna see if they can scam you. If you don't know how much they are worth and are willing to overpay for it they will jump on you and sell it quick. If they give you an offer and you think its to much they don't wanna take the time to bargain with you or they are massively over pricing it and just trying to catch a newbie.

People ask for offers because they are hoping that you are ignorant. Whenever someone asks me for an offer, I just lowball them (in case they are ignorant). Then when they say nty, I offer standard price. Rather annoying, but gets through the BS well enough.

You were the one instigating a trade by the WTB therefore you should be the one making a price that you WTB at. Therefore you were the one at fault here OP.

You arent going to the store, you are on a street corner shouting that you WTB something - more like a pawn shop if you like, a person brings an item you are looking for and you offer a price.
Its when people do WTB and WTS but then dont give prices when you ask that is annoying, if you WTS or WTB then you KNOW a price you are looking for - but you just want to see if you can rip someone off.
Oh and calling something retarded when you were doing exactly the same makes you.....

Two kinds of people do that. The innocent kind who honestly doesn't know the value of what they are selling and looking to you to price check for them before selling. And those not so, who are hoping you over pay.
Rather then getting upset over it, just give them an offer(whatever you're willing to pay minus a couple of percentages). You'll either come away with a deal or get the other guy to go away faster.

basic barter tips:
-the first person to tell them what price they want loses. (because all bidding starts from the FIRST offer, and only goes in one direction from there)
-never tell the seller these three things:
1) how much cash you really have
2) the most you are really willing to pay (until he refuses to budge at said price)
3) how badly you want something; make him think you're about to walk away if you dont get it at your price
never tell the buyer:
-how many of the item you have you are selling (at first, unless its stackable like ecto) or have sold in the past. you want 'em to think you are inexperienced basically. if they think you're pro then they think theyre about to get ripped off and tend to take longer or look for other buyers before deciding
-the lowest you will go; make him offer it first. then you can go slightly higher without (usually) scaring him away
i never followed these rules but its a place to start if you're feeling greedy

Wrong.
I am not the one with the item, therefore i can not put a price on what your selling untill you tell me what your selling it for.

For higher priced things I generally just want an offer because i hate selling and what to know what they are willing to pay if it is at all reasonable I will sell t for that, I am not trying to scam just not 100% on top of current prices, plus neither are a lot of people, if I don't want an object and some one wants it Ill generally just sell it for there price, everyone is happy.

So, no, given my experience (which I'm willing to bet is more inclusive of and sympathetic to Korean culture than yours is) that was not a racist comment, merely an accurate observation of a different culture's commerce practices.
EDIT: Also, growing up in such a haggle-heavy environment, I can tell you that the first person to name price is at a distinct disadvantage in these types of transactions.

This is exactly what I do. I don't like selling, so when I want to sell something, I get the buyer to set the price. If it's way too low, than I will sometimes say that it's a bit lower than I'm willing to go (sometimes if I'm generous, I'll just sell it anyway), but as long as it's within a certain range around the RRP if you like, then I'll sell it to them for what they offered. Otherwise, I have no idea what the item is worth, and therefore will just take anything. Doesn't bother me.
I actually think it's rather annoying that when I ask someone to offer, they either don't respond, swear at me, or simply say that they're not interested anymore. I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't take the chance to get something for cheaper simply because you think the seller will just say no. It's what, two seconds of your time if they say no? I know they say time is money, but that's just ridiculous. We're not all out to scam you. Sometimes people just want to sell something quickly, and allowing the buyer to set the price is one of the quickest ways to move an item.

If neither one of you can be bothered to check the Rune Trader's sell and buy prices then work out an obvious compromise, you both deserve to stand there wasting your time.

The Superior Vigor was just a mere example, it goes for everything in the game..greens, golds, runes, consumables..ect.
From now on whenever anyone hits me with "offer"?, im going to reply..two goats and a donkey.

Every time someone in game says "WTS ITEM PM OFFERS", I always spam them with "1g" until they ignore me.

No , you are wrong,, you are the one spamming WTB therefore you need to put up the price you are willing to buy for.
When someone is doing WTB for something I have, my response would be, and how much are you offering for "x" - if they say what do you want, then its a /ignore.
The fact that you dont understand that explains why you actually started this thread.

You know, you could just offer what you will pay for the item, and avoid making a long rant.
