It was pointed out to me that the smites you fight in the Wintersday Cheer quest (the family crest pendant one from Thackeray in EotN) have a possibility to drop ectos.

I, of course, claimed my reward and cannot test this, so post if you have gotten any ecto on this quest.

done it on 3 characters + with a guildy and have not seen one drop. they are only lvl 20 smites in nm, and I'm assuming they do not drop ectos.

I did that quest twice and got no ecto. What I notice was a chest spawning while I was fighting and got a gold ghostly Staff (insc. ofc).

yah i thought about that lol...only thing i got was phantom residue :0 so if ectos drop my guess.......well nvm its always rare lol

I think since they are a lower level, Anet made a specific drop rate for them, and therefor do not drop ectos.

Thinking ahead Anet, I like it!

Although that's just a theory of mine.

The locked chest that spawned there dropped a purple r10 max incribable stormbow for me.
And a gold holy staff dropped crappy one though

I certainly liked the quest.
I guess ecto's can drop, although I didn't get one myself. But on the other hand I hardly think it is worth farming if even possible, quite a mix of foes. Just going to UW is probably far more easy.

All the spawns will come even if the dude is killed.

I would assume that they are like Terrorwebs in Gate of Pain... still a chance for all of the other fun UW-style drops but no ecto.

Well since UW drops come from the smites and other UW mobs that spawn it wouldn't be surprising.

I've gotten ghostly staves and phantom residues while doing it.

No ectos for me on three characters so far. Like was mentioned above though, a chest spawned and I got an Eternal Bow, which was kinda cool. Now if I can only catch a good req one instead of 13

Personally I think if they're going to drop anything, it'd be frozen ectos.

Edit: Done with five characters now, the last two of which I only used a 6-man party, no ectos. Apparently I'm just unlucky.

Someone on wiki claims to have gotten an Ecto.

Personally, it sounds reasonable to me, like how Banished Dream Riders and Terrorweb Dryders in Tombs can drop ecto.

It's a quest around for 20ish days, and with perma-SF going on in UW, I don't see the point of nerfing these mobs.

Easy to farm with a perma sin, start from Sifhalla, take budger with you and bomb away.

Did around 10 runs in HM, no ecto.

I'd farm it more for chest drops than ecto (Inscribible UW skins ftw). I haven't had a chance to start the quests yet (busy putting lights up) but do the chests spawn in the beginning of the quest or as you progress through it?
