What happened was, the code has been in place for over a year, but we didn't enable it until this Wintersday event. I had been asked about the in the DAT file a long time ago, but I knew it was not enabled in the game at that time. Well, it was added to the game in a clever stealth update by some of the designers, and not even we (Community Team members) knew it was there! (I figure they did that because they already knew of my obsession with the Wintersday Event, and with the quests, and they knew I'd be in there 24/7, pushing people out of the way, scrambling to get up close and personal with the Rift Warden, etc., etc. )
As for warning: The team designed not to announce the presence of this new miniature, but let it be discovered, just as we did for the Ghostly Hero and Mini Mallyx. That's why we didn't give warning.
Sorry for the delay in responding and congratulations to Witchblade. If you ever need a babysitter for the little guy, let me know.

This does not constitute acceptable business practice. "Sorry" is not a magical word. Excuses and apologies do not turn back time nor do they fix a problem or offer a solution.
I do want, and fully expect, and explanation and solution to the problem of Anets "oversight" on the polar bear matter.

This is possibly the best post to explain the real problem with the polar mini....it's not that it exists and we dont have it, its that it really feels like something shifty and underhanded just happened. People are feeling like they have been cheated somehow, and if nothing else just want answers or extra chances at something big that they missed. In a game where treasure of any real value is so hard to come by, it is easy to understand how bent people are about the whole deal.
I dont want an extension, I had enough fun with the festival and am ready to go back to my usual grinds......think after everything it is really wierd how now the snow is still there, but the quests are gone...and u can get free hats, but most people were pretty dis-interested in those. (at least I am)

The simple fact of the matter is that the minipet is a rare drop. hence the word, "RARE"!!!
The word rare according to the Miriam-Webster dictionary ( www.m-w.com)
Please feel free to read the highlighted part.
Now tell me where in there that just because you want one, or just because there is one in the game, that means you are entitled to it or that you are guarenteed such an item? Rare drops exist for a reason and just because you had a limited time to get one (that we know of for now) does not mean that you are guarenteed one.
Anet added this prize without telling anyone, the same as they did for the mini ghostly hero, and even now there are only a handful out there and this prize has been in the game for months now. Hence the definition of the phrase "rare drop."
If this is still too hard to grasp, read point 3 in the definitions of the word "rare".
|
lol - I had a good laugh over this one.
People are saying they are unhappy something is too rare that should be more common or that they are unhappy that ANet lied and your solution is to give a definition of rare?
(I also like how you invited people to read the highlighted part and then highlighted the whole thing)
Can you say "non sequitur"?

I think that some people are simply too greedy and sometimes are blinded by their feelings, even if they do not feel like they're acting emotionally. If you read Gaile's message above, you'll cleary see that:
As for warning: The team designed not to announce the presence of this new miniature, but let it be discovered, just as we did for the Ghostly Hero and Mini Mallyx. That's why we didn't give warning.
I guess that most some people have been given so much by Anet, that they're now expecting everything to be told beforehand and nothing to be discovered anymore.

Oh yeah, I can see that. The real rub is the denial about the mini prior to the event I think. I am sure it has more to do with miscommunication over the holidays than any kind of sinister motive. Unfortunatly some people now feel like they can trust A-net info as much as they trust what the CIA tells them, and that is not good.

That is like the complaints about making the Bonus Mission Pack buyable in the store. You missed your chance, oh well, play again next year.
Plus, the Wintersday ness is starting to remind me of MY holidays...which are now over! :'(

Yeah, but some people are mistaken and will confuse the CIA which deals with real life-threatening things (including real torture of real prisoners) with Anet than manages a game where they have a virtual character. And even worse, these people do not realise that trust is not built on a single individual event (though it is more difficult to earn than to loose).
I'm 100% sure that if most of these people put aside their greed, they'll clearly see that they overreacted. I guess a few will not trust them any more, but then they'll move ahead, possibly away from GW, while most will have accepted the situation in a few days/weeks.
It's just a game .
Dear Anet, please sure that it snows where I live!

Sigh, yeah. The whole QQing saga reminds me of Back to Work/School post-holiday blues. All I wanted for Christmas was a Polar Bear, but all I got was this battery operated singing tea-cosy. What do I do with that?
I could post a great LOLcat I saw today, but that may start another bad chain reaction.

I laughed at that . For the Polar Bear, do not worry, because there's Philipp Pullman's "His Dark Material" trilogy or "The golden compass" on the big screen .

In the end, the only people who want the Wintersday festival to not end, are one of two types of people.
A) They want the collectors to horde alcohol and sweets.
or
B) They want a miniature polar bear <some of you>because they are greedy. </someofyou>
Neither of which are fair or plausible. Simply because, Wintersday is a festival that runs from Christmas to the New Year, not a week after New Years. No one can give a non-money motivated reason as to why they want to keep Wintersday around, because, frankly, after 2 weeks, no one loves the decorations or the annoying people selling orr emblems, or charr carvings by the thousands.
For the second time in this thread, and hopefully the last...

As much as I'd like to comment on how great a series His Dark Materials is, stuff like this takes precedence.

Getting really tired of this "stop complaining about free things" I'm hearing from some of you (though I must say spamming a thread you disagree with with cat pictures until it gets closed is even worse). ANet should work to deliver quality content to the players if they want to keep receiving patronage. Now, I'm not saying I'm personally going to quit over a couple hats and a polar bear, but this kind of poorly executed event (lag, bad hat textures, and a super-rare polar bear to help kill the economy) is what makes the customer start to lose faith in ANet.
Personally, I say all they need to do is bring back the candy cane shard collector and make the polar bear more possible to get. That way, we have the same amount of time to get rid of them as last year. We don't need the other Wintersday collectors, just that guy. And no Candy Cane Shard drops. Does THIS seem less money motivated than most of you are inclined to believe? I don't even care about getting the polar bear for myself at the moment, but making it so super-rare only hurts, not helps.

I only want a mini polar bear if it has armor, and not that bright shiny stuff, it has to be dented and rusty.

Funny you should mention that one, the BMP deal is way more aggrivating to me than the polar bear mini.....the polar bear mini will likely be available before next year (wintersday past chest, 3rd year B-day, Zaishen chest) and at least i had a few hours to try for the bear. Since I only started GW after haloween this year, I never had a shot at the BMP. (least til they run another promo) The bear is just a toy, whereas the BMP has fun sounding quest that i would love to try, and then the rewards for said quests are nice looking weapons you can pick and choose, instead of hoping against the odds you get that oh so perfect random drop. To top it all off the BMP is an incentive to buy stuff thru the online store...but is not available thru the online store, and yes I think that is dumber than a box full of rocks.
A quick question too, it is human nature to feel bummed when you miss out on stuff.... is there some kind of joy for you that comes from jumping into a forum and tellin people "tough cookies, eat s**t and like it"? Must be because that seems to be a common theme amongst people who arent the ones complaining about festival stuff here.

How many of the current mini pets are obtainable in more then one way?
None?
Thats a good indication we wont be able to get anymore untill next wintersday, but I wish that I had known about it since day one.
Theres people in the game now that still dont know about it. All other minipets were announced or we had a decent amount of time to get them if we wanted in the case of ones that werent. But this was pretty much a two week only secret.
