lol, there are quite a few outposts in which u can take a break. a majority of the quests begin or end in towns. if u have to, u can just leave ur character outside with ur comp on to take small breaks since every area is instanced. just make sure to be out of the way of mobs ;-)

I'm finding it is a mistake to sit down to play for an hour as you usually end up playing for 3-4 as the time passes so quickly and I have decided to 'just map this area completely' before I finish playing or 'just find the next outpost so I don't have to redo all the monsters again'.
|
Honestly, the equivalent can happen with anything. I know I've done it with books - "just another chapter, I'm only 100 pages away from finishing it...."

Urgh, yeah. I ended up drastically reducing my reading to prevent 3am binge reading sessions which result in only 3-4 hours sleep. The internet can be pretty bad too, with things like tvtropes.org.
I'ld recommend getting a clock in place so you can tell what time it is as a start. Have a glass of water, drink from it regularly and take a break to refill it when it is empty. This will also ensure they you feel the need to stop down the track as well...

first off, yes guild wars has that effect. i used to feel just like that all the time, where i "just have one more quest". i still get that feeling every now and then.
also, in regards to the "i hate fighting the same monsters over again" thing, i'm sure you already know this, but you do have the ability to map travel. also, if it is a particularly long quest, just leave your computer running (if it's an option) and come back later if you need a break.
don't end up like that dude in korea or japan (forget where it was) who played starcraft for 52 hours straight and died at his computer from stress lol.

That guy was a faker, I don't think he was Korean at all. Real Koreans play 24/7, 365 days a year, no breaks. He was a wannabe.

Well, first of all: Every single quest in GW is not required, you don't have to do all of them, in fact, most are worthless and are not done.
Secondly: I really do hope you aren't manually fighting to each outpost every single time you want to visit it... If you hit M you can click the outpost and fast travel there, so you can omit fighting/manually traveling. Speeds up gameplay a lot.

Yes because playing too much is the designer's fault. Not the players themselves.

Every game has the potential to steal time. But you yourself are the one in control of that.
If another quest pops up and your time is up, do it tomorrow. It's not going anywhere. Sure you might have to fight your way back through some enemies to get there tomorrow, but you won't be kicking yourself for staying up later than you intended...
You are in control of your life. Not the game.

It's the strawberries effect. The problem is, that if you have a gallon of strawberries they taste so good you eat them all right then and there and then you get a tummy ache.

Its the world's increasing culture of finding someone or something to blame rather than take responsibility.

He said in his post about getting there so he didn't have to fight all the way there again and could just go there

Even looking to complete a quest and finish can lead to another, as with the Ironhorse mine ones. Having completed one and going to finish I went back, got my reward and then there was another to do. Rather than leave it and fight back to that point in another session I did it, but it took another 15-20 minutes past what I wanted to play.
I know there are the warnings every hour, but when you have a target these don't have much sway.

In three years, you'll wish you still felt this way. After completing every expansion multiple times and farming FoW/UW/Zaishen/JQ/FA etc. unto death and all that's left are freaking EotN dungeons, you'll long for the days gone by when the trip from Ascalon City to Ashford Abbey was one of the most beautiful VG experiences ever, and it was all new. In 3 years I clocked up 3000+ hours (while holding a fulltime job involving overnights which meant no GW), which is roughly equal to 125 days of work per year. Sad, but true, and nowhere near as much as some others. Enjoy it while you still can.
