Overrated and personal taste are two entirely different things here!

I LOVE my warrior's FoW armor. There are many more armors I like, from 1k to 15k to Obsidian.

As all armors have the SAME stats, NONE can be overrated. You only pay for the looks, and THAT is a matter of personal taste. So stop the nonsense in this topic allready!

Overrated would be some skill that is hard to acquire, but really doesn't give you any significant advantage in the game. I can't think of any, as the Kurzick/Luxon PvE skills require some Faction farming to get, but DO give you a nice advantage imo. Some might think those overrated, but I like them.
Saying PvE skills are overrated would be a good argument here, but I'd disagree as I see the advantage of most of them.

Overrated is NOT armor that is more expensive to get, becasue they are ALL the same except looks.

Totally agree. Nothing in this game is overrated. All of this stuff is personal preference. You cannot call something overrated if it is based on personal likes. Its just for the majority of the players... mostly the more "mature players" if you can call it, like more "classy" looking items while the younger people like "hip" looking items such as Tormented, Chaos items, etc. Based on on most people's thinking.... 15k armor would be overrated. Why not get the same stat armor for only 1k? Most people on here try to act like they are the police... differentiating between what looks good and what does not.
Also, how is Black dye overrated? Is it a crime that black is a good looking color for many people?

Most of you guys would probably argue that you would be paying too much for the same item with different skin. Sorry, blame Anet for its crap variety and "balanced mentality". Mods for items are so bland and boring that there is absolutely no variety. Seriously, they need to hire people with some inspiration. Its too easy to get a "maxed out item" or "perfect" item that there is no other way to judge the value of the item. All "perfect" items would cost the same. The result? item pricing is based on skin.

Why not make PvE entirely separate from PvP? PvE can be all out while PvP can still be balanced.

With some Necro armour it looks good, also, a couple of Sins have worn it quite well. It's not so much the mask, as what it is put with and how it's dyed. Don't you realise that many people only get black chaos, blindfold and chaos gloves etc etc in a hidious combo as a way of showing off how rich they are. It's only human to want to present yourself as superior, but these people are trying to do that with things that don't really do it well, that is what is meant by overrated, only going for those hidious FoW/Chaos/Glasses or Blindfold combos because they show that you have lots of money. If you like Chaos gloves, get them, and enjoy them. But you must realise that the majority of this game are not mature enough to get why having all of that does not make you good at this game, thus they overrate it. I myself like many of the FoW armors (apart from Female Mesmer /puke) and I can see the chaos gloves working with some armors, but there are limits to good taste.

edit: it also doesn't hurt that I sometimes get to run 14prot/10df/9 tactics, so i meet the reqs on my shield for a full 16 armor, or that some people have q7 tactics shields.

Ya q7 tactics shields are teh best. They are undeerated, especially the q7 15 AL ones haha. Those still help at least.

In my opinion:

Most overrated Title: Slayer of All / Holy Lightbringer. These seem to be two of the most common titles I've seen. It's like people think it's good cause it's max but really if they were the only two titles I had on my character I wouldn't show them.

Most overrated character look: Kind of a Big Deal/Chaos Gloves/Funny headpeice of some sort/EotN armour (Even though I have a Blindfold ^^; ). There seems to be a rise in character that look like this. Orr! Male Warriors with Black Obsidian and a Tormented Sheild and Sword

Most overrated armor: Well ofc Obsidian. At a certian point any Obsidian wearer that is wary of how their character looks notices that maybe Obsidian isnt the best to wear. I keep my Rit's in storage all the time, haven't really changed from Norn since I got it.

Most overrated Weapon: Tormented Sheild. It seems like everyone has one or a Tormented Sword. What ever happend to the Axes or Spears! (I have a Spear since no one has them and people are suprised to see them) Infact what about a Tormented Maul! Hammers may not be that good sometimes but I've only ever seen 1 and that was in PvP.

The entire point of PvE is to show off armor/rare weapons/rare minis.

It is conceivable that you don't like FoW armor or chaos gloves. It is a matter of opinion. Some people like them,however; and like to show them off.

Just like in real life, u can pay 15k for a Chevy and be invisible to others; or pay 300k for a Ferrari and turn heads where ever you go noone will force you to do either.

Which armor you buy is really your choice.
