Xenomortis already made a similar point, but I just wanted to expand a bit.

So here’s how I see it:

A new storage tab costs $9.99.
It gives you
-20 new slots to store anything
-immediate and easy access for
all your characters
Max additional storage tabs is 4(5?)

A new character slot costs $9.99
It gives you
- 20 new slots to store anything
- 1 slot to store a weapon
- 1 slot to store an off-hand
- potential to add 25+ more slots via
--5 slot belt pouch (0g-100g)
--10 slot bag + holding (600g) x2
--? slot Equipment Pack
A total of 47+ slots
- for a character to get an item, it has to go through storage
Max Additional character slots is 26 (see wiki)
In addition to storage, new character slots can also be used to play the game and they get birthday mini-pets.

It seems to me that you get more bang for your buck out of a new character slot. It’s a little more cumbersome to log in and out to transfer the item via storage, but you get more than twice the storage space for the trouble. Personally, if I were spending $40, I’d sooner get +188 storage slots than 80 of them.

Given the above, I’d say that $4.99 would have been a much more reasonable price for the additional storage tabs. I think maybe ArenaNet’s marketing people should either A) do a little more in depth market research or B) take a course in basic economics.

The other stuff for the 4th anniversary looks pretty cool, but this particular item seems to be wanting.

Don't see what everyone is complaining about. If they never told us about this update and just kept the storage the way it was we would be getting "moar storage pl0x" comments, but once they give us free sotrage then you complain...The $10 storage is optional meaning you don't have to buy it if you dont want it. As stated before no monthly fees=expectations for everything to be free...

You missed 26 weapon slots, 26 offhand slots, 130 rune slots, and 130 insignia slots offered by heroes too.

Having multiple characters for storage is a pain, i would prefer the fairly low price for a storage add on

That assumes that a person has NF and EotN... and that they went through the bother of running a mule through the entirety of the game for the benefit of those extra weapon/offhand/rune/insignia slots... and don't mind tracking what they've put on each mule hero so they can fetch it at a later time. So true, you can get an additional 312 (profession sensative) slots. I was more emphasising what you could get for making a short visit to the online store, and dropping a little GW gold (1300g) could get you. A tiny amount of effort for more than double the storage.

For guildwars trilogy accounts - 50 dollars

For everything else in games -Pricesless

Mastercard is easy to use and safe

am i the only one less than impressed? i hate to be critical but 6-8 months for this? and no dye/tome/mini storage? i mean you had the template from the mat storage all you had to do was rename & reconfigure...no hom account mod (unless i missed that somewhere?).

so 3 things in 6-8 mnths..
charging for a xunlai tab when xunlai tabs are NOT a new addition to the game (they're already there!)...not to mention it costs the same as a new account (4 char slots)....
stables.....uhh imo not very useful unless tied to a statue/title.
warhammer-esque dailies? cause i didn't have enough quests as it is and it's too hard to pvp for zkeys.

i'm sorry for saying this is not very impressive. i appreciate your efforts and your game but when you put something out like sorrows furnace in ~6 months and compare this update to that... oh but only 2 people on live team. no, as stated in linsey's wiki post there were more working on it.

UNLESS... this is NOT the big update we were told about...then just change your storage prices to something reasonable (1.99-2.99 USD) and happy anniversary

This update so far sounds like one big backfire. "They've been crying for more storage for a year and a half now...let's give it to them! They'll be so happy, they might not even notice that it'll cost 5x what it's worth!"

I understand that it takes server space to store items. but those items are already there. Not every account has every storage slot filled...if you take all the newbie accounts and max out their entire storage, all characters, heroes, etc etc...you'll likely more than triple the amount of items in the game. You already have that server space. All we're requesting is that the dedicated players, the ones who have given you most of the money, get to use a little more of that server space.

Perhaps when a new account is created, it allocates space on the server for each account? And, as each new campaign/expansion is registered, it adds a bit more to accommodate the new character slots, the new slots in the chest, and the space needed for hero equipment? Maybe the reason we pay for character slots, the reason we pay for more storage space, is that ANet needs more space to allocate to each account which purchases these upgrades. I do agree that storage space could be a little bit less if they want to compete with the prices that Newegg has brand new accounts for, but prices may change yet. We're not forced to buy the new storage slots from ANet.

I'm very happy with the announcement - more storage, saving your pets, and daily quests.

Do I mind paying for extended storage? - No. ArenaNet needs income to keep the servers going as the game is Free-To-Play. I checked out two different "Free-to-Play" on-line games - Dungeon Runners and Runes of Magic - and both want you to pay for extra storage.

Will I enjoy being able to get new pets without losing the old ones? - Yes. Great idea, and free if I charm and tame them myself. The service will only cost me if I'm too lazy to do it myself.

Will I have fun with the daily quests? - Yes. Something different to do everyday, before I go off to do the vanquishing, dungeon runs, and trading.

So an early Happy Birthday and a loud Thank You to ArenaNet. You've come through again.

Look, you made the comment that the company knows better than me...referring to how much server space they have...the company is charging for more storage because they want to make money, not because they don't have enough. My entire argument was that they have more than enough storage space to give long-time players just a little bit more to use without having to pay for it, seeing as it's a 4th anniversary EVENT and that means that 4-year PLAYERS should get something extra for sticking around.
YOU seemed to think that their only reason for charging for storage was because they didn't have enough and needed more money for it. I argued that isn't the case.
