No game allows you to change your appearance after creation without a charge. Nor a name change. Most people will only ever change either of those options once. So 1 free change would be no profit at all to Arena Net or NCsoft. Demanding them to give it to you free is childish, especially considering peolpe have been asking for this for a long time. Now you have it and you whine casue its not free. The effort to get the free pane is negligable. You have what you wanted, what people said they would pay for... accept it with grace.

"People" also pay for women in stiletto heels to step on their man-bags.
Many of us didn't say we would pay real money for it, and there is no reason whatsoever we should "accept it with grace" like it is a gift that they reached down from above and bestowed upon us with their holy generosity. It's a blatant cash grab that, for a lot of us, hurts ANet's reputation in our eyes.
And the claim that it will help development of GW2 does nothing to assuage me personally, because now that I know ANet has tasted the Pay-for-playability pie, they're not going to let go of it, so I don't care if GW2 ever gets made anymore.

QFT
Also another game that only charges ingame "money" is City of Heroes another product of NCSofts. You can change all aspects there except sex (m/f/h) and who knows if they'll add that in the future.

I guess I'm lucky that I like the looks of my main character so much that I'd never change it

They should have just charged $15 for the ENTIRE update - which would limit each character in each account to 3 makeovers, extreme or normal. This includes ALL the storage panes as well, and you get the free storage pane if you purchased during April 23-29. I'm sure a lot of people who have been pleased with this plan rather than the obnoxious one they got in place now.
If you plan on buying everything they have released, that's easily over $100. Well, anet, guess what? I'm not dumb - my wisdom tells me not to support a company who scams its own customers.

QFT! That seems like a very reasonable price for a decent package of features. Many of the people now vowing not to buy *anything* would probably have less objection to such a package price and open up their wallets after all.
I sort of wish they'd had this makeover feature few weeks ago, when I was forced to make a new Proph toon to get the face/hair I wanted. I swore I'd never make another Proph char after Factions came out but I didn't have much choice in the matter - I wanted an LS necro but I wanted him to look identical to my non-survivor one.

This. $20 would have been good too, even $25. They would have made $150 from me because I would have gotten it for *EVERY ONE* of my accounts.
Instead I am buying nothing.
