Any tech guy want to explain to me how the programming for this is different?
|
zelg, I can't explain it in any technical way but before it was on a case-by-case basis. Probably all manual. They had to make it for a larger scale and all automated so the coding probably changed. This could also be a combination of things you do such as the makeover with the name change, or if you are all ready connected to the ncsoft store or not.

You've tryed to put it on? I'm almost 100% sure a-net binds armors to a character ID not the name of one.
So it's probably just an minor error in only the display.

Test much ANET?
Edit>
I don't think weapons and armor is bound to a character name otherwise you could just make a new char with the same name and use weapons from an old same named character. I guess items are customized to some sort of character ID and refuse to think anyone in their right mind would bind it to _both_ a name and an ID.

Maybe we can find a common theme, if enough people who have tried it check this thread.
Did the name change mess up your equipment?
What was your characters name before, and what is it now?
How old is your character?
Was your account already tied to the NCSoft store?
Which campaign is your character from?
Did you also do a makeover, or just a name change? If yes, in which order?
Anything else you can think of that might help.

I had the feeling the guy may be a troll. Paying blablabla then "I quit". No way someone would rack $25 and so easily quit. Or the OP is insanely rich. Or he just found a bug.

this is what i did
I went to the guild wars online store from my in game login screen. I got the name change and the makeover and paid for it. I went back on and changed my name. Then i went to great temple of Balt. and change my appearance.
Did not play any last night. So this morning I was changing my armour set. But could not but on my armour of anyother set on. Looked at the armour it said Customized to Karen The Healer. My name now is Faith Highborne. Then could not put back on the armour I had.
Maybe I did something wrong, I just dont know. I have not played in awhile been playing Warhammer Online with some friends from work. The character is my main Title character that is 4 years old. I am really pretty sick over this and upset. I sent an email to customer support.

how stupid must anet be to let this one slide?
i mean, seriously, a 10 year old could have told you to test armours/weapons and make sure they work ok after a name change.
GG anet. another fail in your long list of failures

I'm sure it will be fixed soon Karen, no way they will let this one slip for long.
Did you keep your gender the same in the makeover?

LMAO
So no skill update becasue "ANet wants to test and make sure updates are released without bugs"
Yet here we have a simple error on the announcemt screen concerning the date, Zcoins not going into storage and Name Change failures.
Can't wait for that skill update and go all OP in some PvP arena with a handfull of badly bugged skills.
go fail bot go!!!
@JR
I was wondering that too. If you change your gender does your armor change or are you screwed? My guess is screwed.

From the GW site:
Q: Will my customized items be renamed, so that my character is wearing armor and carrying weapons with the new character name?
A: Customized items will not be renamed to reflect the new name, but the items will still be usable by the character associated with them.
What this tells me is that armor and customized weapons, books, etc will be unusable, but other items in your inventory will be fine.
So they may not do anything about this. Be prepared.

1. No
2. Isair Ilmater -> Dust Xa
3. Just over 2 years
4. Yes
5. NF
6. Yes
#6 I think is the most important/likely. I decided to do an extreme makeover to my character (changing gender) before changing names. Armour is still equipped as is customised weapons.
It should be important to note that all my equipment and weapons are still customised to my old name, however I am still able to use them, unequip/re-equip etc without problem.
EDIT: Exact listing of what I did:
Before buying name change kit/makeover kit, experimented with different faces on a few characters with just the preview.
Purchased an Extreme Makeover Kit, A Normal makeover kit and a Name Change
Altered my Elementalist's gender and face. Her face now contains objects from two different campaigns.
Went back to character select screen
Altered Name
Re-logged in, everything was fine.
Been out into explorable areas, havent encountered a single problem so far.

Were your other armor sets in storage or in your characters inventory?
Did you log on to any other characters in between the name change and discovering the problem?
When you noticed the problem your character was still wearing armor, right? Did that set still work, or did it just refuse to be re-equipped once you took it off?

Nice find, but you are misunderstanding it. You should still be able to use anything you previously had.

Wow that is really unfortunate. Good thing I decided not to do that stuff. I'm sure ANet will fix it soon enough, at least I hope they will fix it sooner rather then later.

Even if you create a new character with the same name as an old one on the same account, you can't equip weapons or armor created on the previous character, so my guess would be no.
Bad luck to the OP and others involved, hope you get your stuff back soon.

My armors are in my account chest. Not on other characters
To question 2, Yes. My characters all looked funny on the login screen and I read I should login on them to get them looking right.
I took off my armor and went to put it on the new set and i could not.
Omg I think I know what happened . I had a pvp character by the name Faith Highborne that I never played. I deleeted her prior to changing my name from Karen the Healer to Faith Highborne. Because I had once held that name on a pvp character I bet that cause a mess up. Think thats it?
