No, YOU have to be better then the other, it actually takes skill to play this game and strategy.

you can be as skilled as you want, if the other players are retards, theres not much you can do.
for example, your the second, and the first is shortly ahead of you, while the third is shortly behind you. third has the range KD. what will 3 do? C and KD you instead of the first.
honestly, ive noticed you have ti much harder as second than first. :/ people just C instead of using their brains.
best example; shoot something at them..they will use shell after they are KDd. or they get echo and have all skills but Shell used..theyll echo shell instead of waiting for the next one.
"skill" does matter, but luck and the other 5 idiots playing with you matter a lot more.
also, i hate the bugged echo. i got three in a row once and could only use two decently.

When this happens, does it not come up the "Pickup Aquired" (or whatever it says) message? Last race I had 3 boxes in a row not appear to give me a skill and it didn't come up the pickup aquired message. I only had 2 of the 5 skills on my bar.

Arkantos don't feel bad, you wanna know a little something unfair, and in my opinion cheating. Guild syncing, I was in a race where the other 5 players were all guildies and just knocked down me and let one of them finish the race, he got a score of 464k that's the real secret on how to get top 100 because ive done a race with 3 superbeetles no kd's shortcuts and no lag and ended up with 451k.
Also, many people who are on top ten, play for hours on end so think of top 100 as the "top 100 people with nothing else better to do" with the expection of a few players who got lucky.
Just my opninion anyways.

if that is tru envoy, I think this beetle races are f### up really good.
They should make it the first 1000 or 10000. or the first 100 of this hour.
i dont know what the prices are, but what i know is that 100 players will get lucky and about thousends of players get unlucky. I dont think thats good for Anet as publicitie.
ps: sorry aout bad language (im from holland

I've been doing the races for 15 hours on and off now. (I do have a life, but I am currently sick and have nothing better to do). I got echo + super TWICE, no kds, and 455k. Really wish ANet would explain the point system.

I've got heaps of top 100 scores and there was no sycning. It may help to stop people attacking you though.

There's two areas where you can really make the difference with Super Rollerbeetle. First you have the rocky area just before check point 3 where you really slow down, so SRB will allow you to speed through that area and keep the momentum going with Rollerbeetle Dash after crossing the check point. The second area is the part in between two bridges (check point 4) where you can go left and cross the water (and pick up a bonus). If you have Super RollerBeetle there you can use it to power through the water and reach the top of the hill at full speed. Getting a third SRB would probably be needed to have a chance at reaching top 100. From what I've seen you definitely need to finish below 2:20 to reach 460k, possibly even closer to 2:10 to reach top 100.
Namkey, please tell us what we're doing wrong then if it's so easy to get those scores? I've finished 20 seconds ahead of the competition lots of times without any KDs but I still haven't gotten more than 458k.

I've seen some very good players who knew from the start they could win by a huge amount. From what I know, the corners increase your motivation level and make you go faster. So skip all corners and keep your bug next to the wall!

I just talked to namkey in-game and I understand he doesn't want to give away all the details. I do think I have the right idea about what to do, it's probably more a question of when and where. In many ways though the race would be better without the Super Rollerbeetle skill.

Too bad it's not how this usually works...especially since in 99.9% of matches you won't get enough boosts to reach the top 100, people are just fighting over who is going to be 1st, 2nd, etc. instead of worry about their individual score (which makes sense since they're not making top 100 and they rather get more tokens/gamer points).

Mario Kart 64 anyone?

In Mario Kart 64, you can't get a Star or Lightning Bolt while in first place.
Bad analogy.

Well I calculated a little bit and found out you need a time of 1:34 or better to hit the top 100 and a time of 1:24 or better to get 1st place.

Regardless the knowledge of the course (its easy to pick up where and when to use certain skills) I ask everyone this, if this game is based on "luck" as you all say, then please inform me as to why there are the same people in the top 100 multiple times, if its luck thne just 'wow' other wise, to me it doesn't seem right that a "luck" based mini-game can have the same people receiving this "luck" multiple times.

Nevermind my first calculations. It seems the base is right around 2:00-2:10 to get in the top 100. Well first place.
I also have this problem, where I go through boxes and get nothing, even though I have no skills on my bar and I break the box. Which is gay really.
