Default There are Angels in GW

Hi,

I'd like to tell a true story about something that happened to me in-game the other day. Basically this is a story about how despite what many might think, there are extremely nice people that play this game.

My main character was created long ago, and upon creation, I mistyped the character name. I only recognized this mistake a while later and didn't want to remake the character due to the time I had invested in her.

Up until recently the name couldn't be changed but with the recent update, it could be. As this typo bugged me and the 15$ aren't too big of a deal for me, I decided to do it.

The problem was, that someone else had already taken the correctly-spelled name. I decided to try to contact this person and negotiate a deal where I pay him/her to delete (or rename) the character so that I may correct the spelling mistake in mine.

I added the correctly-spelled name to my friend's list and when the person logged in, I contacted her and explained the situation. She told me that the character in question was a level 18 pre-searing character, at which point I was sure she would never delete the character. Nevertheless, After a short chat, to my amazement, she deleted her character without taking anything in return, only saying "pay me later what you think is fair".

After 24 hours, I renamed my character and opened a trade box with her to pay for her service. She was pretty shocked and said she didn't want to take the payment and that she assumed I'd never contact her again. I had to insist for her to take the payment.

Now there's an angel if I have ever seen one.

That's touching. It reminds me of A Walk to Remember.

Seriously, whats so wrong with giving up a character? If I had invested months and months of work into it, I would change my own name but hell it's only a game, and if it means more to the other person than it does to me then they can have it.

you probably should have paid the 15 dollars or whatever to THAT person to change their name, and then spent another 15 on yourself for the name you wanted. maybe thats what they did and simply told you 'the name is available now?' and you assumed they deleted?

lvl 18 presearing is a buttload of work....

i mean... this just feels like some homeless guy giving up his only box, his only home, to some rich dude who was packing boxes to move to a bigger house.i dunno i assume the payment was adequate...

I agree with this, pretty much. If she really just deleted a level 18 pre character so you can have the name, then yes she is indeed very nice (or just very easily manipulated). The only way I'd change my name for someone is if they actually gave me the $15 to do it...I am nice, but I don't want to throw away hundreds of hours worth of a character for some random person that whispers me, and who I will never hear fom again after this. If she did it out of the goodness of her heart, good for her. If she was talked into it/manipulated...*shakes finger*

Hopefully the payment you gave her was adequate.

@ Everyone saying "OMG you made them delete a pre char that took hundreds of hours!!!" - Obviously that did not matter to that person. I personally posted my lvl 16 pre sear because I needed the 21 black dye for some quick cash (yes I know I could have had a friend or guildie post it). Granted lvl 16 is not lvl 18, but past lvl 16 is all AFK anyway. If the work did matter to this person they would not have gone through with it.

The OP didn't force anyone to do anything. They asked, and the other person decided to oblige.

It's a matter of a "virtual character name", for hours of "fun" and not work (if the person a lvl18 presear char, they didn't loose their fun, and now it's not so hard in presear with new additions).

It was indeed a nice person. We need more of these in the community.

I miss the "random acts of kindness" of the Scribe.

I think the lvl 18 pre searing person must have simply had a name change. Nobody would be that dumb to delete a char after hundreds of hours when they could have simply renamed it.

It's nice to hear about, but I don't think this is the right crowd. Honestly, what does it matter if she spendt xxx amount of hours getting to lvl 18 if she no longer plays on that character. People seem to forget that this is just a game, and the "work" you put into your account's only as good as the joy you get out of it.

Actually this so called 'angel' probably spent 15 dollars to change her name, only to be compensated with ingame money. This is a clear case of rmt...

lighten up guys

It's good to hear that people still do things genuine in the game anymore, and as for all the trolls just trying to flame the OP and "angel" leave it alone, good people do exist even if you aren't one of them

Cool story. :3

However, I have to agree that it seems more likely that this individual purchased a name change for her character. Deleting it would be a waste.

Unless OP can say otherwise?
