Allow me to make a slight correction. "A GOOD and experienced player..."
I've been playing my ranger since Day 1, got my protector titles, working on guardian, got my UW, SF, Urgoz,etc... statues (No one in my guild does the Deep. QQ). Suffice it to say, I've got "the feel" of the class. Haven't looked at a PvX Ranger build in forever, except to compare my build when someone called me a Wiki noob (turns out my general vanquishing build is similar but, IMNSHO, superior to the ranger turret that was up there).
On the other hand, I recently had to start a new character (in prophecies. Yech) to introduce my GF to the game. I made a mesmer, since I've never made one. My mesmer experience consisted entirely of loading up Gwen's bar with every skill that has the word "interrupt" in it. Looked at the builds on the wiki then. Realized that it wasn't much help. :P

Stupid people and kids verbally abusing someone in a MMO is not exactly news. If it is not about your build it is about something else. Learn to ignore the majority of persons in a MMO, otherwise you will be frustrated quite often.
On the PVX issue, I think it is a great site, information is allways good. It helps begginers learn some decent builds and experienced players get some new ideeas or try something different. As previously stated, it is more important how you play the build then where you got it from.
As a final note on any given time I would much rather have someone on my team with a build from pvx then the usual bad builds you find on people.

PvX is, to my thinking, a good place to find ideas on builds you might not have otherwise thought. I've used several of the builds, slightly modified for my game style, with a high success rate. I do not, however, load in any of the builds verbatim and play slavishly true to the template.
For those who harass a player for using PvX, makes me wonder what their own skillbars are and whether they are efficient in their profession. Sure, you can come up with decent stuff on your own, but it's nice sometimes to "listen" to what someone else has tested and found effective first!

Losers will QQ about how its everyone's fault when they lose other than admitting the fact that they suck. Such is the world we live in.

Pvx is ok. Its good place to start with an idea then customize it.
But to me a PvX noob is someone who has copy pasted with no thought to is this build out dated by skill balances/nerfs.

As long as the build does what it's intended to do it's good, people are always going to bitch, just start bitching back.

Original does not always equal bad. The people creating good builds in the first place are using "original" builds (until they begin to get copied).

All in all quite hilarious since i've been running shock axe since the day they nerfed gale, and the only change i ever made was swap executioner's for body blow. I don't even visit PvX, hell, i wouldn't even know the actual url.
Do i think it's a bad website? No. 90% of the GW population wouldn't recognise skill synergy even if it hit them between the eyes doing 120MPH. At least now they can look up skills bars and start from there. It's easier to judge about the quality of a skillbar (good/bad) than to build one from scratch.
|
I dont know if its still like this, but you used to be able to make "pre-made" pvp characters, and one of them was a shock-axe warrior. Anet friggen gave people pre-made shock axe warriors, how can anyone think thats a "PvX build"...? It's been around FOREVER.
No one in guildwars is original. I've made some "orginal" builds that worked great, but they were always inspired by another build or a concept from another build. No one just sits down, and puts 8 random skills together and comes up with this magically awesome build. Everything in guildwars is built off past builds and ideas. So the whole concept of a "pvx noob" is really very stupid.

Frankly, I think there are two extremes: there's the people who wail everytime you deviate from their perceived 'perfect' bar, and then there are the people who flip out and call you a wikinoob if your bar so much as resembles the one on PvX.
Not to mention the people who basically run along the lines of "If I win, you suck. If I lose, you still suck, because you copied, you cheater!"
It's a resource. You can either make good use of a resource or you can abuse it. That's all there really is to it. =\

Actually this is a lie. It was made by the players back when gale was only 5 energy and they used the same skillbar on warriors but with gale. These were known as "Gale Warriors". When gale got nerfed, they just replaced it with shock, but that template was one of the most consistantly viable templates for the first 2 years of guildwars. It wasn't until warriors started running shock instead of gale that the template was made due to ANET wanting to update the templates with more current ones and took the most popular templates used at the time and made them premade builds.

As some one previously stated there is no running away from such insults.
But honestly people should realize that by now there is no original builds and combos. Maybe 2 years ago or even before that you could have gotten a great idea of what combos to use but now everything that was possible to make that is playable is a;lready made before by some one else.
On top of that most people are used to the "norm" builds as other have said before me and any sighn of 'irregularity' is a red flag for the bulls..
So i am afraid the only thing we can do is to endure such comments.

It's because we (PvX users) are obs-RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs who, like many of you have said, often copy down a build that may not be the most "meta" variation of the build. That goes for PvE too.
We have very few people who actually know what they're talking about, and the people who actually know what they're talking about either don't care to use our site or they try to use our site but are so full of themselves that no one listens to them.
It's beautiful in it's retardedness

How would these people even know what a PvWiki noob is unless they themselves do not go there and know the builds posted extensively? SELF-PWNED.
