Question Worth buying more campaigns?

Basically I've been out of playing Guild Wars for a few months now due to PC problems and other issues, and I was wanting to start playing again and buy Factions and Nightfall. The only thing is though, I've heard from my friend that there is barely anyone on GW any more. Well is it worth buying Factions and NF? Is GW really dead? Should I just wait for GW2?

(Btw, this is my first time posting on Guru, so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place )

All the campaigns are worth buying to play through at least once. And there's plenty of content in each, it'll keep you busy for a while. Of course there's no reason to buy them all at once, you could simply purchase more as you complete the previous ones.

Its probably true there's less folks around to group with, but the standard advise applies in this situation, find a good guild willing to help when you need it.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for GW2. If you still hunger for GW, buy more campaigns.

if you like guild wars then i say do it, they're great fun.
people are going to say each campaigns ruined it but don't listen and judge it for yourself. Anyway you can pick them up pretty cheaply and its expands your character alot

GW is very much not dead. If you haven't heard of the Zaishen Quests, you ought to look them up. They're optional quests that are given daily that take you to different missions and different bosses to kill. Usually, there are a ton of people getting groups for these, so they're a great way to learn and to play with new people as well.

If you're still into GW, you're going to eventually want every campaign, including GW:EN, just for the skills if nothing else, but the campaigns are also fun and should be done at least once. There's a world of content in Factions and Nightfall, and you'd be selling yourself short if you didn't get them.

I agree with FengShuiDove.

Not only is there a buncha new skills and everything, but you'll be missing out on some valuable lore that paves the way for GW2. Each campaign has an entirely new storyline to tell that leads up through Factions, to Nightfall, to EoTN and the "big finish". I would at least try these campaigns out for yourself, if not to discover new worlds and fill yourself in on the story than anything else. Plus, each game brings in something a little new, such as two-party missions, classes, environment, characters, so you're bound to at least have a little fun sometime.

As to Guild Wars being dead... People are spread across three campaigns (and one expansion), so in some places, yeah, it's a little bare. It kind of alleviates the more you move up, but if you're patient, there's always someone else looking to form a party. And if not, guilds/friends/heroes and henchmen can help you out.

Yes.
Definately buy them.
Because not only do you get a new campaign, you'll get new skills and stuff able to unlock.
If you have a warrior, then you'll definately want NightFall for [Flail]

Thanks everyone for your advice I do already have EotN and I've decided I will indeed buy factions and NF, even if they turn out to be a single-player experience

Sure go for it. I kinda agree with therangereminem...but that is mainly a farming aspect. (Don't try to agrue about this since I'll tell you to go to ToA and look at the professions)

The game is still fun but kinda dead at times. You'll find some mission where there are lots of people, some people, and others with almost no one in them. Most people that still play this game farm UW, FoW, Urgoz or Deep or solo farm things.

Also like feng said zquests made people go to certain missions so you should be able to find parties at sometimes.

Bare minimum, I would buy EoTN to go along with Prophecies(my favorite campaign) for your account. The biggest reason I see to get Factions or Nightfall would be to have access to the new classes. If they interest you, give one a shot, but don't buy both at the same time. That's overload.

Its funny how a-net divided it up...

Prophecies: Most content, original
Factions: AB, JQ, FA, rit/sin
Nightfall: Heroes, High end content, Para/Derv
GW:EN: moar Heroes, more high end content, great add-on

Each one gives plenty of respectable skills, of course.
I got Prophecies, then about a year of not playing it, I gave it another shot (I could get through Great northern wall this time!), got factions, then nightfall, and finally,GW:EN.

Yeah, you ought to look at Amazon's prices. Find the cheapest "new" price you can get, should save you a few bucks.

Buy eotn at the very least, it's so cheap now anyways. You could just get a plat edition if you can find the combo that you want. Then you can get the rest when you feel like it.

Just a word of advice because my friend did it, make sure you connect the expansions to your original account and not as a separate account. I definitely recommend getting all the expansions over time if you have the money. Each one has something awesome to offer.

You may continue with your current account, or start a new account with the GW Trilogy pack and purchase EOTN later on. This way you'll have everything covered easily.

Just to know the story and go through it once is reason enough to get all campaigns. You'll find people on the way, and if you find a good guild, you should have no problems in finding people for important things, and if there is a Zquest fo it, you'll definitely find people for it that day.
