I would like an increase in name size, 24 perhaps? Even 20, so many characters of mine have had to ahve a name cut short or changed completely because of one letter.

These are supposed to be people. It's a CORPG. Unless your real name is !Jon2Nu?G, numbers and punctuation marks have no place in these names.
While we're at it, let's get rid of anybody that uses N A M E, X name X, or I name I, too.
On topic, if they get rid of those stupid names, then by all means extend the character length so that people can make something creative.

None of the names online are real so why does it matter?. And even taking out numbers and punctuation marks you can still come up with "dumb" names. And who is any of this hurting? I never see anybody RP in Guild Wars anyways.
They do XX/II sometimes because the name is already taken. If there was another system where people could have a display name instead maybe that wouldn't happen as much.

What I would actually like is being able to create names with foreign characters for guilds and characters without being in the actual regions, just with the IME.

yes, it could be as much as a gigabyte or two, do people realise just what sort of money is needed to buy that kind of storage? It would completely banckrupt ANet, they would have to charge for that kind of an update.
But as someone said, I've managed just fine for 4 years...

I should have made a note -- I did take a database class in college, but haven't touched them since. And I don't know if the fact that ArenaNet is using a BLOB for data makes any difference.
So take what I say about database complexity with a grain of salt. Or maybe a whole salt lick.
