All this is going to be eclipsed by the news that Jeff Strain is leaving NCSoft.
That sucks.

Please edit pole; add new choice.
The lack of info is understandable seeing as GW2 will not be released. Because of poor marketing, poor customer relations, poor management. They have failed to produce even a screen shot or trailer after several years of development, thus losing budget to continue. Hence Jeff Starins departure.

Guys, people leave jobs for thousands of reasons other than the job itself. Family, health, medical, financial, kids, locational, etc. Statistically speaking, Jeff left for any reason other than being unhappy with NCSoft.

That's why ArenaNET has doubled their staff size recently right? Because they're not working on GW2? Ya that's believable. I guess all those employees they hired, they just stand around in the parking lot all day, then go home.

But thats the big question, right? Why wasn't he happy?
Was it just money? Or does it have something to do with Guild Wars 2?
And why is no one from NCSoft or ArenaNet addressing this stuff?
Huge announcement, followed by silence. Not good.

"Jeff Strain, the driving force behind Guild Wars and Co-Founder of ArenaNet, has left NCsoft West. He had, since NCsoft’s North American reorganization last year, served as the President of Product Development for NCsoft West and was considered by many to be the primary creative mind at the company. "
Yeah, pretty much, even though Mike O'Brien is head of GW2 development, I'm pretty sure Jeff was still his boss.

I really just think that people are blowing things out of proportion...way more so than is necessary or warranted. You can speculate all you want, but none of it in the end affects whether or not GW2 will actually come out. There are many reasons for Anet to not release GW2 information, especially well before a beta even comes out, mainly because it would lead to even MORE speculation, well in excess to what is already being passed around.
Also, confidently claiming that GW2 will NOT be released is just sheer ignorance, as there is little to no proof that GW2 will turn into just vaporware. I agree that the departure of Jeff Strain MAY prove to be detrimental to the production of GW2, but it by no means ensures a non-release. People need to just sit back, relax, and wait for more info on GW2. If it comes, great, begin the actual speculation and excitement. If it doesn't (ever), move on and play something else.

As much as it sucks, Jeff Strain was no longer part of ArenaNet. It shouldn't have much of an affect on people's views on ArenaNet because he already left, in a way. I am not worried, and I hope he finds happy trails (and I hope he is not leaving NCSoft for the same reason he left Blizzard).

That looks to be the German ESRB Ratings site. Unless "Guild Wars 2 Gamescom Trailer" is a typo, we may be on the way to finally seeing some life in this project. I sent the link to a German friend and asked her if she could tell me more about that site, it's legitimacy, and what it means to her when she reads that information. I'll post again when I hear back from her.

So this trailer will show up in about 1 week from now, which makes me wonder if they will spill the beans on GW2 at that time -- after all, why show a trailer and that's all you get? Could have done that at any time. I was expecting them to wait until PAX to start releasing info, and maybe they still will wait that long, but there's a chance we might get some actual info on Aug 19 when the trailer (allegedly) comes out.

Might be a nice little teaser, and then at PAX they'll release a full trailer along with a big packet.
This is certainly welcome news, PAX and the other upcoming conventions are looking a lot more interesting now!

Martin K seems positive that there's going to be information about GW2 before 2010, and I doubt it would be after christmas. I don't recall him every lying/being totally wrong about something, so I might actually take his word for it.
Not holding my breath, though.
