10 bucks is really a fair price. Its even less than a monthly fee for most mmos. And i always thought they should sell storage space. They have my support.

Pathetic. This extra storage thing is an OPTION. This means that you do not need to buy it. If you feel you can get a better deal, then go buy the second account and if you don't want to use that GW X2 program, go use your laptop and your desktop to transfer everything. Yes, many of us in the Guild Wars Community think that this should be free, blah, blah, blah, but the truth is, it's not. A-Net is not forcing this upon ANYONE. Although we have been through this, on MOST NON-MONTHLY FEE MMOs, this option is something you pay for and they have to upkeep servers and pay people some how.
Another thing, is A-Net REALLY going to care if the people who didn't sign this buy this OPTION or another account? No. It's still money in their pocket. They are a business and they're out to make money one way or another, even if it means nickle and diming occassionally.
Also, why are you not waiting until AFTER the update to make this decision? Yes, we have been told a good amount of what will be in the update but do we REALLY know if that's the whole thing? Probably not. For all we know, those of us who do quests X,Y, and Z on a specific day might get this for free. The only people who know every detail about the update are in an office working their butts off on putting the finishing touches on the update to impliment it.
Times, when has A-Net asked any of us to pay a monthly fee to help with upkeep of servers? Never. When has A-Net asked us for anything? Never.
I would like to leave everyone with one last thought here: Child goes to Mommy and Daddy and says "I want this!" or "Can you fix this ASAP?" And they get or fix it for the child. After a number of years the, the child tells them to buy them something little and Mommy and Daddy say to the child "Well, you need to BUY this one!" Then the child throws a temper tantrum because they can't get it for free and Mommy and Daddy won't give it to them.
Hmm...Do we see any comparison between the Guild Wars community and the child in this story?

If I could access my other characters storage directly from my main character or access my other account's storage directly without having to run another copy of GW to do it, then the new tabs would not be worth it for ME. As it currently stands I can do neither, and it annoys me to cycle through mules to try and find where I put something, so for ME, it is worth the convenience for 4 or 5 more tabs. In other words, to answer those people that say it's not about having the money but about the tabs being worth it -> to me, the convenience is worth it. If I was broke or making minimum wage and the dollar meant more to me than it does now then that may be a different story. It's about supply and demand. I have money so it means I am more willing to buy things I don't NEED than someone making minimum wage or living at home. It's no different than any of you feeling a game is worth the money you (or your mommy/daddy) spent and someone who believes that wasting money on a game instead of saving it is foolish.
Cycling through mules is not convenient. Selecting tabs in storage is. Convenience will also be on a per-person basis, just like paying someone to change your oil in your vehicle or buying pre-made network cable instead of cutting and assembling it yourself for cheaper. For me, 10 dollars a tab isn't too bad. Do I think it's optimal, no. Do I think it's over the top, no. I pay for cable TV and wireless phone service. Anyone that pays for cable tv from a major provider and still complains about 10 dollar storage tabs in an online games(one-time fees) is just crying to be heard. If you want, feel free to go ahead and not buy the tabs and keep cycling through characters. I'll buy the ones available to me :-)
to all their own. like I said, for me, a one-time payment of one hour worth of hard-earned cash is worth the convenience of not cycling through my other characters looking for items I stored on them when they could be in storage. I realize that for some of you that may be more like a day or two worth of hard-earned cash and that for some of you it's more like non-earned cash that's given to you. For those of you in those cases, maybe you have a point. We can probably assume many of the people here are cheap anyways, so the complaints are to be expected. Guild Wars may be a great game, but the truth is a lot of people bought it because it was a cheap alternative to subscription based games.
I think the easiest solution for those complaining would be to remove the buyable tabs completely, leaving the extra tab from the promotion and the equipment bag/tab combo, which would put the storage update almost exactly in line with previous storage updates (1 extra per campaign bought for the first update, 1 materials storage tab for the second update).
EDIT: oh, and I can't be sure since we don't know the full details, but reading the forums and the wiki discussion with Linsey makes it sounds like well be able to put an Equipment Bag (varying sizes they mentioned in the preview) on each of our characters, with one tab in storage to hold equipment bag (whether it holds one or multiples, I just don't know yet). If this is true, if each character can hold an equipment bag which in turn holds much of their armor/weapons, and of course that doesn't cost us anything - then this is probably the biggest free storage update hands-down that we've ever gotten. Assuming just a 10-slot equipment bag (big guess since I don't know how they work, could be less could be more) per character, that's a SHITLOAD of free storage coming our way, assuming you have lots of armor/weapons like me to put into them for each character.
even so, a free tab via the promotion and then an equipment bag/tab for it makes it bigger than the last storage update.
and I saw at least one person mention that his parents won't pay for the storage updates. well, at least your honest.. and you're just friggin spoiled - tough shit. don't expect sympathy from me. once you get out on your own and then if you have a problem with it I may consider sympathizing with your position. that's ust part of growing up, the rest of us did it, and not everyone has the opportunity to even play games like this on someone else's dime.

Too late in the day for me, I've managed without for over a year, I'm sure I'll get by.
If it was some new content, missions etc. then I would buy but just for storage, thanks but no thanks!

I'm glad they made it a purchase and not just a free update, even if I'm not going to use it myself. At least the pack rats who ruin the game have to pay for the privilege now.

Besides $40 will buy GW2 so why should I waste any more money with GW1 since it's a dead game anyways? When GW2 comes out and all the people exodus to it NCsoft will do just like they did with AUTODUEL and TABULA RASA bye bye nice knowing you folks but we are shutting this down.

75% of what? Guru is a forum, it's opinionated, it's full of trolls and people who say one thing but do another. And, most importantly, the vast majority of players are playing, not comming here to comment. If this majority buy extra storage slots, Anet'll know they did the right thing (both for players and for them, they may sell a buy-once-but-then-free-to-play game but they need money). If they don't, Anet will lower the cost or give us a new kind of offer (Linsey clearly said she's not marketing and didn't have any impact on this). People think they're smarter than Anet by talking on Guru, they aren't, because 4years after launching GW1 (so 7-8 years(?) after starting their project) they're still strong.
As CyberNigma and others said, it's about convenience. Buy the convenience or not, or else you can always buy the same storage space cheaper, I think it's quite a smart move from Anet, but I still believe $10 is slightly overpriced. But we still have to wait until April 28th to see the full offer (who knows if they won't modify it?).

obvious reasons.- don't want to pay money then don't buy
- anet lets you play for free; server space costs, also have to pay workers
don't mess up something for the rest of us that want it just because you are too cheap to support anet.

Mike O'Brien is one of three co-founders who helped form ArenaNet in the spring of 2000. He was the original creator of Blizzard's Battle.net and has had a large hand in programming and developing Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft III. Needless to say, the guy knows a thing or two about a thing or two when it comes to quality games.
|
As far as I know those 3 games are still up and running. No doubt ArenaNet has improved on the original Battle.net and it is what Guild Wars is running on. Also, if you've read enough (which I can guess you haven't) you will see that GW1 and GW2 will be running hand in hand. You can update items in HOM and then access them in GW2.

buying a tab= 20 slots thats it
so why would anyone buy a tab for 10 bucks for 20 spaces then to buy a toon slot and get 55 spaces to put things, unless the new slots ahve 50 spaces in thm each its not worth it at all its a rip off, anyone with a brain can tell that

You fail to recognize that when you have 32 characters you don't have that option anymore and you fail to see the convenience of having those tabs in the storage.

What do Blizzard's past business decisions regarding the continued maintenance of battle.net have to do with ArenaNet's upcoming business decisions about Guild Wars?

Wasn't talking of business decisions; I was addressing what Red Sonya said about GW1 going bye bye after GW2 comes. If you are talking about a business decision to end GW1: I am simply stating that I would find that highly doubtful considering the experience that Mike has had.

I say that Anet should go the extra mile and sell extra bag slots for $4.99 as well on a per character basis.
If you were to delete such a character, or it gets /nameban, then the next one you make gets an extra bag slot or something.
They need money. Durrrr!!!
