Which demonstrates nothing, since ANet certainly isn't going to provide that proof (unless they make a mistake).

Let's be clear. I'm not saying that the nefarious plot I lay out was the motivation. But if they wanted to implement that plot and then cover their tracks, the sequence of events that unfolded with XTH would be one way of going about it. Whether the official story is true or not is immaterial; its veracity can't be proven. It's the appearance of impropriety that's the problem.
