The gift items go up price after wintersday. Back before cons were added you could get 1k per candy cane.

Granted with con sets that won't happen now, but they'll still be more valuable a few months from now. Clever people will stock up stacks of them and sell for profit.

To be honest, you may not be able to sell them at 500g per gift even after wintersday.

Here is an auction result from guru auction site for 80 wintersday gifts and they sold at 16k, which is 200g per gift.

The best price I was able to pull for a stack of Wintersday Gifts in September was under 300g/per.

The price will decline, because the contents just aren't that valuable any more. There isn't any good reason to pay 500g/gift now, and that isn't likely to change in the future. The price of booze would have to increase by leaps and bounds to justify the current "prices" advertised in-game.

they sell for 500g because people are willing to pay 500g for them, why not selling everything you have for the price people are willing to pay and not the price it "should be".
If your trying to sell you house and somebody offers you more for it, your obviously going to accept that offer

its just the way the world works

At least in the guru auction site, it seems impossible to sell them at 500g/gift even after wintersday.

Nah. Events like Talk Like A Pirate Day and Easter have destroyed sweet/party/drunk prices.

But yeah, prices have always been out of whack for the chance to open stuff from a purely mathematical chance. Like the z-keys for 4-5k, lunar fortunes, etc etc etc

Oh, and what the guy meant when he said "you have a chance to double" was that sometimes you can get 10 CC shards from a present that cost you 5 CC shards (and thus, in essence, go back to the trader and get 2 presents for the price of 1).

I guess what does it matter to you what people price stuff out as. If someone buys it then the price was right for that person. If not no one will buy it and they will either sit on their inventory or have to lower lower price to sell. Just like anything else in the game people can set their own prices on anything.

Apparently a lot of people?
