I agree, granted I fail at monk. But playing Restoration Rit, which I don't fail at, just to end up healing the stereotypical idiots isn't much fun.

I couldn't agree more! It's hard to monk for team that can't even pressure or shutdown, not even to mention - kill... Sometimes I'm just stressed, but with RA you really shouldn't expect much. That way RA is more fun.

^ yes. I've been having pretty good results by NOT trying to Monk in RA.
Playing heavy shutdown of any form really helps (Weakness, Blind, Snares, Hexes, KDs, Enchant removal, Interrupts...). Even if you get a newbie-average Monk, your skills go a long way protecting him/her - provided he/she runs a semi decent WoH/Patient bar, not Heal Area or other unusalvageable crap...

There's a load of skills you can throw on a monk to increase the ability of your team to kill shit, though it obviously comes at a cost to your defense. Though often referred to only in jest, with practice a dshot monk will put you through to 25 basically every time, unless all three of your teammates are sub-par even by RA standards. Gives you access to natty stride as well if you want to keep a stance.
Augury and DDagger are also pretty funny on a monk.
If you continue to play reactionary to your opponents running either of the above variants you will lose. Stancing after something like DHammer is not an option, unless running natty. You will often need to burn your dshot on opponent offense simply to not asplode, and you will need to pre-guardian. Also, don't miss. Ever.

you don't pre-prot unless you have a stance?

I meant to infer that most RA monks are terrible, don't preprot, and only stance in reaction to an event that's already happened. Running skills like dshot and ddagger will only get bad monks killed if they adhere to said bad play.

Because codex is fail and they killed TA, some people want to take RA seriously.
Blame Anet.

People were taking RA seriously long before TA died. The worst thing that ever happened to RA was probably glad points. Although frankly, it's hard to guess how many people would play it if they weren't there. Not that frequent matches in its current state are any better than a match every twenty minutes if it was in a "good" state.
If you really want to streak RA frequently, the best bars to play are either the above-mentioned disruptive monks or some bar that presents solid DPS with the ability to shutdown the one good player on the other team. Basically anything with DShot is awesome for the ability to both shut off things like BSurge and poop on all the bad monks you'll run into. Mindblast with Blinding Flash and/or Gale is pretty strong. Pewpew water bars are good. I can't really recommend anything that has to attack to win unless you're really good at DChop. Also avoid bars that don't have moderate-to-heavy DPS if you aren't a Monk. They may generate a higher win percentage, but your wins will take so much longer on average that you are probably losing both wins and glad points (as well as spending the majority of matches trying to avoid draws).
But then, I haven't really bothered with RA since the districts merged. It's more fun to go slam my head into an actual wall than a metaphorical one.

Sounds like having no monk is the new standand for rolling in RA.

Agreed. The merge totally killed whatever little amusement you could get out of the format before. Though my boredom gets the better of me at times, the last couple of times I got around to entering I was presented with such levels of baed that I simply raged and went back to using GW for a chat client.
