True story...

Me and a friend VQ'd 4 different areas and in total we got 3 gold items between us.....These areas were Kurzick areas. Basically 3 hours to get 1.5 gold items is pretty rough when we are playing the game........

I couldn't even speculate. Since the nerf I've only done some JQ and helped a couple of new players with a mission or two. I did notice when farming for tokens, I didn't get 1/4 as many as I did last year. But that was before the nerf.

I've had good days and bad days. During bone charm week, the Outcast in Jade Sea were hurling golds and greens at me, plus the bone charm drop rate seemed rather constant, at least from my point of view.

Then this week, trying to get some Pillaged Goods... o.O I think I got 5 gold drops or so during the countless runs I did. So that wasn't fun at all.

i don't really care what the drop rate is.

i can't do anything about it anyway so what's the point of worrying about it.

i mean, i could nerf my harddrive and remove gw altogether.....but i'm not at that point just yet...

thanks for all the replies..

do i have statistical data? lol.. no.. i am retired military.. not a statistical analyst.. though my career taught me to be observant of my situation at all times.

if this thread is bs as one has put it.. so sry for asking a question in the forums i am new to.

but it does seems from the answers..

drops have always been sub-par.. but overall seem to be going down.

..gz to all who are still getting good drops. like most i can't get hardly a purple let alone a gold drop these days.

I haven't got a gold item in 2 days of playing through for my cantha guardian title. I wasn't farming, but still, you'd expect something...

To answer the question you would need data and not in terms of hours of play time but number of foes killed and often of a certain type of foe and possible region.

So if you killed so many Bull Trainer Giants in search of Pillage Goods, we would need to know how many you killed and how many Pillage Goods you got in the claimed pre-nerfed period and how many you killed and got in the post nerf period.

Then we could us a statistical test such as Fischer's exact test to provide evidence to reject the null hypothesis, there is no difference betweent he periods, or reject the null hypothesis, there is a difference between the periods.

Attribute data like this takes pretty fair sample sizes to show evidence of a difference especially if the rates and differences you are trying to detect are small.

To make the claim that they are different the risk, that is the risk of being wrong (claiming they are different when indeed they are the same), is usually 0.05 (5%). So you would claim evidence of a difference if the risk was less than or equal to 0.05.

Here is an example, say you went out and killed 100 BT Giants and got 0 Pillage Goods, and the period before you killed 100 as well and got 4. You would not have sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis that they were different, p-value =0.121. But if you saw a difference from 0 to 6 you would have strong evidence (p-value=0.029) that they were differnt (given the same sample size, 100 kills for each period).

Totally agreed, I create a Noob character on Prophcies and while farming charr I get a Black dye and 2 greens... On a Noob character! That's fine with me though so I guess results may vary all over Guild Wars (Listen to me I sound like a commercial, Results May Vary... Ha!). But yeah, that now leaves my Green dye count on 12 even after I sold the last batch 2 days ago (After I finally got out of the hospital).

As for this, I also agree with... Unlike other games where it can be pretty easy to make money (IMO), Guild Wars is like a step backwards where the only way to make Moolaaa is to... FARM, FARM, FARM!

You must be a programmer because I don't think anyone else understood this but me, you, and possibly Inde (if he reads this...). But yeah, if you don't have sufficent statistical data to support and maybe prove that there was a change between "pre-nerf" and "post-nerf" period then I would have to say that statement is busted. Coming from my programming background, my teacher used to say, "Without valid statistics to backup a theory, there is no theory to begin with." Why do you think people rejected the idea of the big bang at first... There were no statistics to backup the theory so therefore there wasn't a theory to begin with! (Note: this has changed over the years so Please, DO NOT change the subject into a whole argument on how the universe was created, OK.)

Anecdotal evidence is perfectly valid, statistics are just numbers that can be manipulated for any purpose. Do you expect one player to have a spreadsheet documenting drops week by week since day 1? Go watch Big Bang Theory, pocket protector wearer. Someone's non math observation is a useful tool, particularly if it is supported by others observations.

Actually yes I do expect someone to bring spreadsheets to compare data otherwise I just think this is another of those random threads as previously mentioned. I use spreadsheets all the time to compare drop rates of a certain area and see where the best chances of finding the item I am looking for would be... If you don't thats your problem. And thanks for the smart mouth comment, as those are always appreciated... Not!

Edit: I'm sorry the way I reacted, it's just that I do use spreadsheets very often for many things, but mostly my Web Dev. Projects. Sorry again...

We don't need days on end of people farming and recording their data... We need an official word from the developers. They KNOW what the drop rate is because they programmed the algorithms. Why not publish the information?

I'm 100% positive that the loot-scaling has a lot to do with it. I can farm a particular area solo and get 0-2 gold drops. I take a friend (who does nothing but stand at the shrine) and between the both of us we get 3-6 gold drops every time.

loot scaling were put in to fight the bots, quite unsuccessfully anyway. they should just restore the white/ hard gold drops back to their original levels. purps and golds are fine the way they are in HM.

pssh..u dont need data..Heck theres not 1 person thats played GW for a number of years that wont tell u the drops are worse than eva.

Loot scaling was retarded..The idea was to make it so the more people in a grp the better the drops?..lol..seriously thats the biggest load of crap anet ever said.
I can do full grps in HM and do 5 missions and not get a single gold,and thats meant to be an incentive to not farm?
