Did it ever occur to you that it might be wise to get familiar with the game before you start to get into PvP? Because the fact is you lack very basic Guild Wars knowledge.

Guess what? They don't like it either as they won't get any points, because someone decided to dive into PvP while lacking the obvious basic knowledge. Perhaps the problem isn't them. Perhaps it's you and your indifference to understand the game before entering PvP.

What Enon said is extremely true. You should better learn yourself with Guild Wars first before diving right into mid-level PvP. It may sound harsh but it's very true. People PvP in GW to win. If they have a "PvE scrub" on their team they will consider them trash and a waste of their time. That's just how people in GW (on the internet) are.

Sorry to dissapoint. :<

Thats something that could always happen , the diff is the attitude. You can say "soz , just rank 3+ this time" or whatever instead of adding a newbie into your party KNOWING its a newbie and them call him 2348950 names when he fails to do something or your party loses.

Thats the problem , calling newbies names dont help at all and that behavior is not needed at all ...... is not like you lose real money lol. Some ppl dont have manners and sorry to say that but ... most of them are PvP players. There was a time when half of them cared to explain and give some advices but now game is dying it seems that they are almost gone and all that is left are rank elitist jerks , sht happens.

Hi Zerlina Ville

best advice is to follow the meta, there will be less chance of abuse thrown your way.
metas are usually builds that are overpowered, or highly effective, eventually they get nerfed.

PM if you would like further advice on the mechanics of RA.

No it's called poor sportsmanship its from bad couches and parents not teaching their kids how to act in sports (win/lose/bad players/ect.). Then when they grow up they become full fledged assclowns and show others how to be just as dysfunctional furthering in continuing decent to drop social ability of the human race back to mer ape like thinking.

I've made 2 long reply posts quoting several people, but apparently they have to be moderated before they show, so that may take a while, but Im not gonna bother to write it all again, so some replies will suddenly show up I guess.

Edit: You know another thing that strikes me odd is that there is never anything positive in the chat. The one time I won 7 RAs in a row (which is described in one of my quote posts) no one said anything except me being overly enthusiastic and praising it. There is only anything verbal when something bad happens, which is kinda strange. Other then that there is the gg, but I wouldnt actually call that communicating.

Yes I am a noob, I bougth the freekin' game yesterday, what does he expect. Its not like he lost alot of his life to the fight which lasted for 1 min. Seriously, that kind of attitude is really putting me off from this game, its not nice playing a game trying to have a good time while half the people you meet call you a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing retard.

I have never in my whole life as a gamer met a more unfriendly and immature community, it shocks me. I guess its the fact that the game is free, so all the leet kids are playing it, I dont know, but I dont like it.
ZV, I've been playing 5 years, and I still know just what you mean.

The sad fact is the miserable ones too often drive away the friendly players, so I hope you'll stick it out. You'll eventually encounter the like-minded folks.

Oh I have no plans on leaving GW yet, I find it a fun and enjoyable game. Sadly the community seems a little sour. But thanks to all who posted in this thread and sent me PMs, you give me hope that there is friendly players out there. And hopefully a good PvP community to get to once I get out of RA and into organized fights.

Let that sink in.
You've nailed it, upier. Many of us have been playing for years, and we don't have an objective view of what it's like for an "outsider" just coming in.

We whine that the player base is dwindling, but then alienate people trying to join it.

This idea that we can't effect change in the community is a bit sad to me. Of course we can. We can stop accepting bad behaviour as the status quo, and refuse to participate in it. We can stop vilifying those who want a friendlier community.

Quoted for truth.
That being said however you might want to read up on builds and mechanics before subjecting your "team" to your unexperience. But keep trying by all means. Like the saying goes: "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." or you could just wish they get cancer and die.

Not really. I explained why comparing GW and an FPS is an unfair comparison. The worst person in an FPS is by no means as harmful to a team's chance to win as the worst player in GW. It doesn't justify the abuse, but it does justify them being upset.

Everyone has a different view of what is fun. While just playing, win or lose, may be fun for some, it isn't fun for all. Most people do not like going into RA time after time losing because you got a bad team, a person with a bad build, or a person who just frankly has no idea what they are doing. Having it happen a few times is something most people can look past. But after a certain point, it becomes very frustrating to deal with.

Yelling at others and just being a jerk isn't going to solve anything so there really isn't a point in doing it, but it is understandable why the person is upset.

As you've said, you've just joined. You haven't experienced the majority of the playerbase. You should go into PvP of ANY game with a rough idea of tactics, that's browsing the forums for tips/guides whatever. Hell even explain to them you're a noob and ask for advice.

This. Look at it from their perspective,a lot of us have spent 4 years getting to know the game liek the back of our hands so when someone comes and mucks it up,especially at competitive level, we get maed.

That's pretty much spot-on.

I hesitate to suggest it, but try JQ/FA as well before trying to jump into high-end PvE

If you're talking competitively, then it makes no sense to try to play fairly against cheaters.

The only way to beat a cheater is to cheat better. If ANet can't or won't do anything against botting (how long have their been gold farming bots throughout the game?) then its up to the playerbase to find solutions.

As PvE is not competitive (so gold bots don't adversely affect me), there's no need to cheat, and I've never botted. However, in PvP, if the field is not level, and the people that maintain said field do nothing, then there's really no point to play is there? So by ANet's inaction, they condone player botting, because the only choice to remain competitive is to bot as well or leave the game.
