Well, there are those instances after we beat each of the campaigns. Really, we get more "recognition" in GW than characters in most RPGs get. Think about characters in FF games, for example: you're out there saving the world from the ultimate evil, and you need to pay for your potions and armor? At least when you go up to a merchant in EotN, if you have a decent title track level, you'll get a "Well met!" or "You honor me," response.

The biggest thing that bugs me, and this pretty much only pertains to Male character, is why the crap did gwen get with Lt. Thackaray!?! Like, really...we traveled with her to the end of the world pretty much and she didnt give a hoot?
|
1) Gwen wasn't really travelling with us. Or, rather, she was only with us through the EotN storyline, and whenever else you personally used her for a mission (probably not that often). We have to assume that whenever she wasn't directly involved with our storyline, she was back in the HoM being all sulky (or whatever it is she does there), because she's always there when we go there, and Thackeray says it as well. So, really, we haven't spent all that much time with her, whereas Thackeray's been around since Wintersday 2007.
2) Thackeray's dialogue reveals that he's been actively trying to get through to her. He's given her gifts (yeah, with our help, but it was his idea), he's invited her to do things, he's even made her laugh a little. What have we done? In-character, I mean; everyone of course has their own opinion of Gwen and call RP all they want, but in the end the only canon version of events is that which ANet provides, and it seems that in that version, Thackeray's spent over a year trying to break Gwen out of her shell whilst we've been traipsing all over the world, calling on her when we need her for something.

Aaaaand....what? MMOs aren't allowed to have good storylines? Most MMOS don't have a linear progression of missions either, but that's because GW isn't like most MMOs, in that it does have a rich backstory and a single concerted narrative.

If however you can work out a way for 2 players to be in the same city one on his first days play and another who has just finished the game and have the ai treat them differently I am all for it.

That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it. The game is linear, so if you go backwards, the NPCs need to treat you like they treat new players, else the story wouldn't make sense.

lolwut? Do you even know what KotOR is? Everything you do in KotOR greatly changes the story line. What I said has nothing to do with whether or not MMOs are allowed to have "good storylines".

So why were you responding to this:

Maybe I'm just not "getting" why you felt it necessary to remind us that GW is not KotOR. Since that's an obvious fact, I thought it was in some way supposed to imply that since KotOR has a good storyline, and GW != KotOR, that GW must not have a good storyline. If that's not what you were going for, what exactly is your train of thought here, because I'm not seeing it. If your point was that KotOR has a better storyline than GW because everything you do affects the story...duly noted, but I don't see how that's really relevant to what Zahr said.

And KotOR is a standard BioWare copypaste story. Don't get me wrong, BioWare's one of my favourite developers, but their stories aren't all that.

I'm having a hard time understanding your train of thought. Were you executed for betraying kourna or the shining blade? Were your quest rewards taxed by the government? Did you have to pay a fee evertime you wanted to sell off your items at a town? Have you been imprisoned for drinking and harassing other players? Did anyone not ignore your actions of slaughtering hundreds of thousands of people and creatures to steal their valuables? Did you have to pay for your food you eat on your journey? Do you have to worry about health insurance or keeping yourself afloat from under all of the bills you've accumulated over a lifetime?
Sounds to me like someone is a little spoiled...

i didn't betray the shinning blade and for kourna i think it was more like self defence since they started (and by they i mean their leader Varesh) acting against us (the sunspears)...

yes of course they were, the quest reward you see when you take a quest is after applying taxes (though i don't know to what government the taxes go)

I only drink while farming (aka solo in an explorable area with no other players around)

It's not illegal or anything killing foes, prince Rurik/ Togo and other major heroes/important people do it everywhere i see them and they don't seem to hide it (the fact that every outpost has henchmen should give you a hint on this one)

End of Prophecies: Cool, we're in a boat.
End of Factions: Well we beat Shiro and HOLY CRAP EVERYONE IS HERE AND THERE'S FIREWORKS AND SHIT AND I'M DANCING WITH THE EMPEROR.
Man...that alone makes me want to playthrough it again...Something to keep in mind for the summer?

I'm pretty sure this is why WoW is completely redoing the world.
In Vanilla WoW, there doesn't feel like there's much meaning. There are a few cool questlines here and there near 60, but prior to that everything feels completely...well, instanced. None of the dungeons feel connected to anything, they're just there because "oh hey we're evil".
Things got a bit better in TBC as you reached near 70, and there are some pretty cool little chains. But again there isn't much that feels coherent or part of a "bigger picture": you just feel like that guy looking at help:wanted signs.
Things change in the Wrath of the Lich King, and for the better. No longer do you go from outpost to outpost to get a crapton of quests that stick you in one area for hours on end. Instead you go from a comfortable progression through varied areas, completing quests that feel much more akin and connected, and they do really make you feel like you're helping accomplish a larger goal.
Blizzard is starting to realize how, well, lame-as-hell their old game world really was. Sure, there were some good times to be had in earlier areas, but still so much just felt "meh".
But that's all part of the reason why I like to prefer Guild Wars as not being an MMO, and it's just because it gets so much right that you kinda feel ashamed associating it with all those other terrible games.

I think you need a break from Guild Wars. Not trying to be mean, not trying to be funny, i mean it from the bottom of my heart, you need a break from Guild Wars.
