To be honest, I don't care what happens so long as I can continue doing vanquishes and cartography without dealing with extra foes like "the new" Nebo Terrace.
Costumes, good for some, not for me. I don't need to look great to be great. Anyone who bases someone's skill and ability based on an outfit is truly depressing.
Remember, ArenaNet, some of us have never vanquished every single location yet, so try not to make it harder just because a lot of people have managed to do so already. You're only making it harder for those who didn't rush into completing everything in under twenty seconds if you decide to do what Nebo Terrace is now.
Nonetheless, from what I've heard so far, there are more minuses than pluses in terms for the new costumes, both those who bought and didn't buy. Of course, nearly everyone complains, but this is general dislike for a few good valid reasons.

I was really hoping for the same. But at least my ranger gets a hoodie. Overall I still like the looks of the costumes. I think they look better on female characers though.
Im happy to spend $10 on the hurry up and release GW2 fund.

That Shining Blade costume you posted looks infinitely better than the ones shown on the website, Cosy. *votes for a replacement*
The White Mantle disguise still looks "OK".

Can't say I'm surprised that they turned out to be costumes.
I've always liked the White Mantle armours in-game, and I was considering buying their costume here, but something about it I don't like. I agree with the sentiment that they look too "clean". And I really hate the way the cape wraps around the shoulders/front like that. It just makes everything look ginormously bulky and the heads look...overwhelmed.

You know what? I bought the costumes to help out the people at Anet. They do really good work and made an excellent game. I don't care if you think the game is old or out of date or whatever you want to think, I enjoy the game, as I have for the past several years. I have no problems paying for items if it goes to support them in making GW2. I hope they keep coming out with more content like this.
Regina even said that this wasn't the end of it, so we can expect to see more. Plus I want to see how this War in Kryta story pans out.
Keep up the good work.
|
I agree with this 100%.
If you can't afford to buy the costumes then don't whine and moan about it. Be thankful that there are people who can buy them and will (and that you don't have to pay a subscription fee to play this game). How long have you guys been playing this game and how long ago was the last time you paid Arenanet for anything to do with Guild Wars?
If you can't afford such things that's ok. However, a lot of you seem to act like you don't think that Guild Wars is even worth paying for at all so to you all I have to say is get out. Maybe some time in the brain grinder that is the typical MMO will knock you down a few notches and bring things into context.
The 5th anniversary hasn't even come yet. This is obviously a pre-emptive update to allow people to have the costumes for the faction they want to "support" when the major update for this war in kryta comes out(or at least I would figure). How can you guys not realize there will be more added before the month is up?

Conversely...my project right now is vanquishing Prophecies with my necro. I had Kryta on my to do list when the Peacekeepers got added. Fighting the new foes with varying new builds was the most fun I've had vanquishing this continent thus far. Especially Nebo Terrace, with the tricky terrain of their camp.
I'd love if they redid more zones like this. Much more exciting than "kill three tengu, walk, kill three tengu, walk, kill two ettins, etc."
So there you go.

Nice costumes. But as said before, not 9.99 nice. Maybe they're 5.00 nice.
Id rather spend that coin on some crazy steam promotion instead.
BTW in eager to see how this GW Beyond thingie will roll. New pvp mods? new elite armors ?more mini missions? One can only hope. More lore is always welcome, I want to support more the game, cash-wise, but Im not paying 9.99 for costumes again.
C'mon ANet, you can pack more punch than that. Give us more useful things to buy.

I don't like the costumes, but Guild Wars can have $20 if they want it. I, for one, am still happy they keep this game and GW2 free-to-play.
Don't like it? Don't buy it.
Like it and/or want to support ANet/GW2? Buy it.
Though I wish they took a different approach on the costume designs. But they were successful in making the Mantle Costume look gawd-awful... Just like every other Mantle costume in-game. :P
Still. Mantle rulez.

I really like the Blade costume, especially dyed. The Mantle one though...is horrible, mainly for females. The shoulders are way too bulky imo.

Unexpected update, fairly expected content. I'm sure there's more brewing.
My only hope: the costumes aren't required for further "optional" quests that everyone will want to do. THAT, gentlemen, would be a scam.

The good thing is that the costumes seem like a few steps up and more from the Grenth/Dwayna regalias.
The bad thing is that they still don't impress me enough that I'm going to shell out money for them. A big part of that is the difference between how they appear in-game and how they looked as concept art on the War in Kryta page. If the costumes we got were armor sets, the concept art versions would be elite in comparison. I'm even moreso disappointed in how the Shining Blade version came out in comparison to the concept. The costume just doesn't seem to give off that dark kind of feel that I got from the concept, and doesn't look like it would dye the same way. Also, having been looking at the concept and now looking at the costume, it appears that they are somewhat mirror images, which makes the costume look even less so appealing to my eye. But hey, it's concept art. This stuff happens.
Oh well. I'm sure my spirits will pick back up as more of the other content is released, and as the Birthday Celebration draws closer. I'm ready for another round of RBR.

Dont buy this shit, GW is broken and there is countless forums about it, Only buy this shit when Anet decide to treat existing GW members with some level of respect and fix this old dog.

GW1 didn't pay for the development of Aion because ANet had absolutely nothing to do with Aion, it was developed by NCSoft. Pretty sure ANet is going to be using some of the money they got from GW1 to pay for staff and the development of GW2.

Yes, because hard mode is supposed to be a walk in the park. They're giving us free content, quit complaining about it just because it makes a couple of areas harder to vanquish. ANet is doing this to give the community something new to do, not to punish people who want to vanquish. You need to look at the bigger picture here.

In all honestly, I like the designs. However their promo illustration sux lol, they should consider an example similar to the one posted earlier in this thread. That's more white mantle like. Unless they wanted to sell a white mantle costume without it looking like white mantle.
Also clipping issues is a 'no go' when you offer limited content like this for that price.
We're not charity workers, we're customers.
Good content (price/quality) doesn't need the line 'Get yours now!'

I like the costumes, and am happy to fork over the cash for them, although I prefer SB to the WM, mainly because the cape clasp on the female WM disguise is way out of proportion.
We're getting the same whines about micro-transactions we had at wintersday. As others have said, if you don't want the costumes, or don't want to fork out cash, don't buy them.
Staff have indicated there's more to come from the War in Kryta and beyond, such as Martin's teaser comment earlier in this thread, or Linsey's recent Gamespot interview (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/guildw...ml?sid=6258414)

Bought em, but grumbling about it. I feel like I'm being sucked dry 9.99 at a time. On one hand, I'm happy to continue supporting the game. On the other, minor content updates used to be free...
