People who say that they don't play the game for elite armour, in-game gold or prestige because they simply play it for fun, like you're supposed to, need to be re-educated. If you want to play a game exactly how it's 'meant' to be played then you're supposed to play to be the best in PvP and be ranked 1 in all aspects of it, and as far as PvE goes you're supposed to achieve goals, such as owning high end weapons or high end gear.

Saying that using the fundamental mechanics of a game, i.e. attacking, running, questing etc. and flat out denying any aspects that require dedication i.e. GvG, titles etc. is just idiotic. Quit trying to make yourselves seem better than everyone else 'cause you don't take a game seriously.

Not to mention I 'lmao' at those who take this game seriously. Specially all those 'hardcore' gamers.
Oh, and I imagine you're the type of player who would make topics on the forums saying something like this:
'FFFFFUUUUUUUUUU-! ANET BANNED ME FOR NOTHING WTF! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FACT THAT I CAN'T PLAY THIS DUMB GAME ANYMORE I JUST CARE THAT THIS COMPANY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ITS PLAYERBASE!'

I've got multiple GWAMMs, and when I'm bored I spend time working on more... and I do it for the e-peen!
No, not to impress other players, I couldn't care less what they think... but every time I max a title I line my cats up on my desk and point at the hero screen while screaming "Fear my mighty pensu!"

To date the only noticeable reaction was a bored yawn...

No really, I play for fun, I do titles because they're there to do if and when I can be bothered... the only armor/weapon skins I care about are those that I think look good on the character, irregardless of the communities perceived value for those items.

i play for fun still. ive taken 1 of each profession through tyria, cantha and elona for their protector titles. discovered what professions i like and dislike. i like playing Ranger, Mesmer, Ritualist, Monk and Assassin. kinda like the Paragon. dont much like playing the rest. i havent focused on many titles as i like playing the different professions and get bored sticking with one. after 4.5 years of playing im just now working on the HM stuff, vanquishing and HM missions, mainly on my Ranger and Mesmer. I've made plenty of money to fund what i need. every character has one or more sets of 15k armor. never got serious about FoW armor as theres only 3 sets i would buy if i felt the need. maybe later in the year if any solid info is released on what the HoM will do for us in GW2 i might get more serious about my title grind as i work towards a GWAMM.

Personally I play to be in a world that will never exist. I'm a fan of the middle ages with Knights, swords, and shields. I can make my character look the way I want in Guild Wars. Basically let's me make make my own story for my character. Also it helps to escape the problems of the real world, anyone else play like this or just me?

Right now, I only play to work on titles when I have the chance to do so. Otherwise, I'm attempting to finish the only thing in GW I've never officially completed yet: The Underworld.

Then again, I've recently tried beating missions with only henchmen. Now that's fun.

I play the game to my skill level and liking, while achieving my money's worth of the game at the same time, not doing too little and not overdoing it.

I've still only beat the game on one character and have yet to take a paragon and Mesmer though PvE fully. So I'll be playing (for fun) soon while I achieve those goals.

I play for fun. But then again, its only fun going through UW with full candy sets up. Which costs alot of money and I never get good chest drops.

Only things that are fun are UWSC, HM Dungeons SC, and DOASC. Everything else is too easy.

EDIT: Its also fun to flaunt a Mini Dhuum in towns. That costs money.

I play for the PvP, PvE is boooring as hell, its like playing a game with cheats on, its fun for the first 10 mins, then it gets old as you realise its effortless to win.

Competition is always good, some people just can't take the internet, and thsoe people seriously just need to take a hard pill. Nothing is quite so fun in this game as going neck and neck in a PvP battle and just managing to come out on top, certainly not clearing UW for the 1000th time over.

I will preface by saying books have made things a lot easier in regards to some pre-EotN titles, but the main titles I was pointing my finger at were the consumable ones, treasure hunter, lucky/unlucky and ones like that.

Seriously, whenever something is competitive it has a serious side to it. I only rage players that come into pvp with 300hp and the goal of ruining everyone's fun. Winning to me is fun, losing is not fun.
I guess to me i can compare playing guild wars to playing basketball. I like playing both, they are both games, i like winning and i hate losing. Also, i take basketball seriously and have fun at the same time. All because some people are serious about playing a game doesn't make them retarded or lame. Lame is having a tie and calling both sides of a game winners.

What you do and what other people like to do are going to be different. I don't think anyone's trying to snub you by saying they don't take the game seriously...it's just how they play. Stop with your inferiority complex and reading into posts thinking they're meant to tell you that you have no life.

All you're "SUPPOSED TO DO" in a GAME is HAVE FUN. Not "be the best", or "have the best stuff"...but simply to play it the way that best suits your interests.

I play for the fun of it. I want to complete things. All quests, all missions, maybe HM as well. I want to be able to take any of my characters anywhere I please and do something with guildies/allies. I'm working my mesmer through proph and NF both at the same time, depending on my mood. It's not for titles...as I have them already on my warrior. It's just so I can have the most variety possible. I have the weapons I need...if I need something for my heroes I buy it or wait for it to drop. If I come across something that's valuable that I don't need, I'll sell it so I can buy what I need later. I couldn't care less about the top end loot, minis, tonics, etc. Those who do, power to them. Glad they found something to occupy their time and have fun with. Don't criticize me for playing the way I want, because I'm not criticizing your play habits.

People are free to play how they want. For many it's not serious business and I respect both sides and styles of play.

High end gear and the majority of titles in GW are nothing but time and goldsink.

Period.

It's not about one being superior or inferior to the other. It's about discussing personal choice.

I'm pretty similar.

The only titles I usually garner are from normal play or helping others although I deliberately went for skill hunter on my main as it was great fun.All my gear is attained purely to add to the aesthetic theme of the character, a habit I picked up from playing CoH, and the majority of it is cheap as chips to buy.

I do boring and repetitive stuff all day at work to attain materialistic goals. For me gaming is an escape from that mentality but each to their own.

The best thing about GW is that it allows the player to do either without out creating tier power segregation as a result, unlike other MMO's.

Competitiveness will happen no matter what your intentions are. Even amongst friends, you'll want to be the one who gets a particular set of titles first (etc, etc).

I was more serious before when I was title-whoring with my main character. But now that I've done all (read as: as much as i care to do) there is to be done with her, I'm less serious as I move other characters through the campaigns.

I don't understand what people mean with "serious" in regard to playing a video game. Wasn't it made to let people have fun? I am already serious enough in my office at work.

For my part, I play GW to have fun. For me, it is fun exploring every (pve) bit of the game. That's not only geographically, but also having played every class through every campaign. Every quest. Every dungeon. Normal mode and hard mode. Every mission. Every elite area. Show newbies around and try to show them how to become a better player. We also made silly dungeon runs with the guild with absurd builds and absurd party compositions.

But I also have goals, and I pursue the tasks to accomplish this goal. This could be "complete all campaigns with that new character of mine", "fill that dungeon guide" or "make z-quests until I can buy that equipment pack". But that's not very serious either - if someone comes up with something interesting, I'm more than happy to take a break with my task and help him out. There is plenty of time to continue at a later time.

I think it's all about what makes people excited. Farming their butts off to get special armor is fun, while storyline and lore is fun to others. Sometimes people like both! Those who play just for titles - that's fun for them. And if it ever becomes un-fun, they should go to another game for a while until they feel the urge to come back imo.

I seriously hope I will NOT play with any of thoose who take the game too serious. We all enjoy the game differently and that's what matters. It's still fun to just kick back and relax, teach a newbie get into the game or just try gimmicky builds. Gimmicky FoW is especially fun when party brings something really odd and still get away with it. At least FoW is very forgiving area for this kind of play, and I bet it's tons of more fun than farming raptors 10 hours straight.

Whether you play for "fun" or "to compete and win" doesn't really matter in the end. Either way you are enjoying the game - which is the whole point of any game.

Attitude has nothing to do with games and everything to do with emotional problems.
