the economy doesn't matter, as long as pvp and pve are free of bots, and people don't feel the need to resort to botting to grind titles/get items is what actually matters.
Considering how long this thread is now, I'm tempted to suggest that Anet will not respond to this thread.
In general....I just don't think they care anymore. Look at how often Anet employees respond on GW2Guru threads with half the number of views this thread has had. They simply no longer care about GW1. They've moved on.
While looking at Regina's journal she can use the excuse of being away.... but there are a couple of others that post here, so yeah, you do have a point
JQ, especially on the Luxon side, is being crippled by the amount of bots. I know of one person I always see using a follow bot, that duplicates every action he takes on another ele (usually in AB). RA I have seen numerous bots. When it comes to PvE, I see bots in the same towns I saw them in ages ago.
It would seem the amount of bots has increased dramatically as of late. Something new really has to be done to fix this problem.

Nerf to SF & 600 / Smite, no adjustment to bad drop/reward ratio....One month later....Bots usage increased several fold. I won't hold my breath believing that the core problem would be fixed any time soon.

The last time that factions botting actually got Anet's attention, they responded quite quickly about it. I am confident in Anet's ability to deal with bots. /sarcasm
Oh wait...what happened was that they decided to go after the HFFF bots by just nerfing the run into oblivion while leaving the FA/JQ bots INTACT! Not to mention increasing the faction reward to a level that barely made a difference to legit players but made FA/JQ botters jump for joy. /facepalm
Don't even mention JQ bots here. Nobody cares about jq enough anyways. Not the players or Anet for that matter. Yes, there's 5-6 serious jq players, but come on. Jq is entry level RA and sits on the PvE borderline. In 7 months I have seen 3 bots turn into 12+. If I wasnt banned atm, I could give the names of ALL the luxon jq bots. Then again, previous statement. Anet doesn't care enough and the players don't care enough. The things learned in this thread are valuable. But, until Anet learns of it's value. We will continue to whine and bitch about bots etc.

I agree that JQ is terrible (too gimmicky for my taste), but that's not the reason the bots are there. They're farming luxon title points. That's something that most people care about.
I am curious if anyone knows how these bots function. Is it code that modifies the game files or is code that interacts with the game input on its own UI?
At any rate the chances of anet developing their own anti-cheat system seems completely out of the question. Maybe they could require the use of punk buster or some other 3rd party anti-cheat client while playing in PvP areas. That would introduce its own set of problems and anti-cheat clients generally only catch stupid cheaters, but it would be better than nothing and introduce the fear factor of being caught and losing your account. It seems now there's little fear of being caught because anet is not taking cheating seriously at all.
It's amazing how fast the cheating hysteria in online games can spin out of control unless it's diligently stamped out. You get the cheaters, then more cheaters because it seems "everyone is doing it", then mass suspicion of any decent player cheating. This has plagued FPS games for years and there's no quick and easy solution unfortunately.

my way of explaining it would be:
botting via injection method is akin to tapping a telephone line. only the most subtle of methods would be able to 'see' that there is a tap.
most of the code is only a set of commands that the game does anyway. example would be that click on the map to (MoveTo) xyz coords. this can be done with a couple of lines of code and GW cannot see that another is on the phone line speaking, and not the original caller.
long story short... if people didn't have to do 5 minute runs, 10,000x for a title.. people wouldn't take the time to make bots.

anyways there is little that they can say that we will believe at this point. They have moved on and care more about a game still in development than one that is currently live. There is not much that they will do with the tiny amount of resources left for this game.
I believe there is a saying that goes--changes the things I can and accept the things you can not change, and give me the intelligence to know which is which.
Yes, and when botting is rampant in GW2, and it will be, what will Anet's response be then? I'm guessing the same response they're giving the community now, because they'll always be busy working on the NEXT release... If they can't be bothered supporting GW1 you might want to pack an umbrella for GW2, they're going to piss all over the community again.

did i mention this is my opinion?
They would still do them for competitive pvp and money.
Who cares about PvE farming bots since zaishen keys are unlimited source of money and ofcourse Anet won't ban them because they need to keep that nerdism attached to game or it will be even more dead than it is now.
Also I mentioned earlier that there are only 8-9 botters... I mean't that in HA section of the game not other arenas and that's true... if I random dshot patient spirit i'm a bot? Seriously people get brainzzzz zzz
If you randomly Dshot it once; no. If you Dshot it several times during a match you either have the gift of foresight, which is very unlikely, or you're using a bot.
I got banned 2 months for botting even when i was not running a bot and i ve send hundreds of mails to support but they simply say its closed and final.
The Gm's dont care if the ban bots or not they just want to ban some people.
Nothing you can do about.
Farms existing is NO excuse for people to farm them. If you only had to do 20 runs to get max XX title instead of 200, people would still be botting it. The problem isn't the game, it's the people. PvP botting perfectly illustrates this. PvP titles, including Champ, have lost all their credibility. Everyone within the PvP community understands this, and even alot of PvE'ers do. Yet, these people still rather have a bot play for them, than play the game themselves.
This shows there is some clear shortcommings in the common sense of these botters. Image you buying a game, and then instead of playing it, have a bot play it for you. You're not reaping the rewards of that bot afterwards, you're not building up a positive reptation (which is important in PvP) and you're simply not gaining any benefit. (Many botters bot even after they have reached the HoM req for titles)
These botters are next-to retarded, in both sences of the word. They don't understand that botting, in a dead game, is of no use. On top of that, GW really isn't that hard anymore. The fact that they have to bot in such a low-competitve environment means they are terrible than terrible players.

That sounds more like a multibox player, so he IS actually in control of both characters so that wouldn't be an offense (if it was GW would be the only game ever not to allow that).

yes you are catching on....I am sure many things will be put off due to working on new stuff (instead of fixing the issues already at hand).
(and no plans to spend money on gw2 in the first place)
