When you thank Anet/NC for the bans, also make sure to thank them for encouraging people to repeatedly hit you in balls.

Let's get real here.
How else were they expected to efficiently solve the problem unless they recorded such abuse over time as frequent and prolonged. It's the only logical way to resolve the issue without creating a huge increase in inappropriate bans.
Another rough analogy:You might get caught for robbing a bank. What do you think would happen if you went before the court and used "...but I robbed dozens of other banks and got away with it for months..." as your defence.
Slack policing is never going to be a justifiable excuse for breaking the EULA and no amount of angry botters will ever change that fact.

Just move on man, you lost Guild Wars.

I know...curiosity killed the cat...and I guess A-net don't like cats...
Anyways I'm trying to explain to A-net...doubt I'l get it back but who knows
I think I'll stay active on Guru...I don't hate A-net,if I worked there I would have banned myself too, since I couldn't know if the user gained anything or not.

Well at least you own up to it. Now all that's left is accepting the consequences of the actions you owned up to. Or are you owning up to the actions, expecting to dodge the consequences because of that? No dice.
Why use a bot? You know what it would do. You can youtube them, whatever.

Ok, see, thats a sensible response. you see where they are coming from. thats a big jump from thinking that one offense is not worth banning for.

Was termination really appropriate?
|
Absolutely, unequivocally.
Regardless of how many of the "old school" players have left, become jaded, are frustrated with the wait for GW2, etc., etc., Guild Wars was designed the way it was to eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the number of cheats, hackers, etc. And for many of us, that is one of the reasons it has been the source of so many hours of entertainment.
I've always been puzzled by the attitude of some gamers who, go out, spend $50 on a game, and then instantly go searching for cheat codes so they can play in godmode. What is the point in buying the game if you don't acutally have an interest in PLAYING it?
I play games for personal entertainment and the personal sense of satisfaction I gain when I master it, legitimately. I would like to think that all "real" gamers feel much the same. People who would rather gain those achievements by cheating have absolutely no business in the game to begin with.
I am personally very glad that these accounts have been terminated, and while I know there are a few people who have been erroneously caught in the crossfire, they will, if they are patient and reasonable, get their accounts back (I have had nothing but positive results from the support team in dealing with account problems, I have no reason to believe they will not satisfactorily resolve these errors), the vast majority of these bans are going to stand, and the game will be better for it.
Unfortunately, the community, those of us who interact on fansites, will bear the hate and discontent of those who have been banned from the game.
I have no fear that this action (and further account terminations) will impact the "success" of GW2 in anything but a positive way, if people getting banned for botting, or otherwise cheating (match manipulation) are so pissed off that they don't buy GW2, that can ONLY be a good thing for the rest of us.

to be honest, seeing the community so engaged in this topic is exactly what the game needs. no matter the view you take, interacting with each other on this level is what keeps the "dead game" syndrome at bay. a truelly dead game would have a minimal reaction, limited debate, maybe even a dead forum. To see that even the banned are coming out in full force means they still care enough about the game to react, to debate, and for better or worse, give their opinions. i say bring on more threads that are this heated.

It's like you just went into UW and got slaughtered(by Dhuum mind you) literally... except instead of returning to town you are now completely BANNED from the game. This is the only way you can lose in GW and you sir along with 3700+ others have lost. GG

You know what the best part is, the people that made the bots for these awful gamers are the same people that turned on them in the drop of a hat, they just took you through the noob food chain.
They got you banned and I'm sure they are loling.

As far as I'm concerned, I've already quit this game two years ago, and only came back to do some runs with friends etc.
I honestly can't say I'm disappointed in having my account banned, it's just that I know for a fact that I've helped my guild/alliance community much more than I've caused some arbitrary harm to the game as whole.
I offer freed lockpicks on runs when people forgot them, solely provided for consets and other minor expenses, gave away items I acquired from the runs I did. Hell, even when one of our officers got hacked and had all of his characters wiped. I gave him a hefty sum that was well over half my wealth just to get him started.
It was fun playing Guild Wars again not for the sake of money, but rather the sake of helping others. I don't regret botting and I won't even deny that I did, but I know I'm a good person and that I've inspired a good hand full of people to be respectful and generous as well.
In addressing this thread, this topic was made for speculation and discussion alone, have fun with your blatant assumptions, misunderstandings, and endless hatred for one another. Just because you express disdain in the form of "justice" doesn't change the fact that it's disdain in itself.

Well said!!!
I've played several other games while on leave from GWs and was shocked at how blatantly cheats are used and allowed, no matter what shortcomings Anet has had with GWs I think they are so much better then the others out there and it's great to see them dealing with the cheats the way they have.
The cheats will always be present and we can only hope that companies do their best to keep up with the bots/dupes/whatever else they come up with and from my personal experience, Anet does a far better job at this then most.

There is a saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
Anet gave the botters "lots of rope," too bad the botters used every inch of it, they hung themselves out to dry. Too, bad. Play by the rules and keep playing, or break them and be hobbled.

I whole heartedly agree with you. This ban is ridiculous, I'm at like the stage of grieving right now. I feel as if 8000 hours of my life was ripped away from me. I can't emotionally handle this, a few of my friends are at the point where we will do anything to gain our accounts back.

Though I dislike botting more than anything else, perma bans should never be enforced. There should be a long-ban (like 3 months). If the action is repeated, then all titles (PvP or PvE) + items should be removed and the account allowed to function as usual. This should be done for all accounts tied to the same IP. So, don't let your grandma or kid brother play on the same computer as you.
It is just a game. The stance by ANET is worst business move I have seen.
