And again, they'd be slaughtered also. Here's the thing, by facing them from the wall, this gives the opposing forces more wiggle room I suppose you could say. By coming through a narrow opening in the fort they're essentially being treated like cattle going to the slaughter while letting the shining blade spread out more. And then you also have to remember, the shining blade just barely found out about the incoming mantle forces, plus again, did you see any siege weapons anywhere? If you did I'd love to know where. And yeah, Zinn could have provided an actual weapon.......like maybe his Golems, but instead he provided a protection field that doesn't do much good. Why? Hell if we know, but he did.
Oh and FYI, the white mantle are Krytans also.

It's a joke in a PuG because most PuG melee aren't built right and they're usually high maintainance/squishy.

For those interested in the ongoing story and not just the action, check out Greywind and the Falcons after Salma's speech. If you travel to Ascalon Settlement afterwards, you'll find it empty and your character will briefly comment on the Langmar/Thackery situation.
I'm still looking around to see if anything else happens yet. Please post if you find something!

They are. With a twist.
Both the initial dialogue and the descriptive text in the quest log are altered after the completion of BLA, now Wanted bounties are presented like commemorative reconstructions of historical events.

No they wouldn't. Arrows have a farther range from above then spells do. As soon as the casters started to move into spell position they'd be peppered with arrows and when they did get into spell position they'd be peppered with spells and more arrows. Unless the krytans are using newbie bows the mantle would be killed.
Opening the gate to LA would only work if there really was a "corridor of death" which there isn't. A few poorly place barricades and some archers on the hills is not a good setup. Why didn't they have the stairs blocked and force the foes to go around the two hills being peppered the whole time? Why didn't they have walls built to funnel the enemy where they wanted them to go like real castles do. You'll notice on most castle designs from the middle ages that the main keep door did not face the door in the curtain walls, this forced the enemy to either batter down the wall or travel a circular route to the main keep doors, while being hammered by the defenders the whole time.
The LA setup is pure stupidity.
I agree that zinn & blimm's invention was pretty much useless and far too late. They should have stuck to golem bombardments.

Didn't they just update it so that henchies WOULD be infused on WiK quests?

Very fun mission, and a fantastic test of micro. I've yet to be able to H/H it, HM, no consumables of any kind. I got as far as killing Confessor Isiah with all the Rangers still alive, but then my connection shorted out and I disconnected. By the time I reconnected everyone was dead and there were about 30 Jade Armours sieging Salma, and died. That wave is the furthest I've gotten to so far. I'd try it some more if I weren't lagging so bad. Worse it seems only to be a GW problem, I can access browse the net no problem. Has anyone managed to H/H this?
Otherwise the storyline got so stupid as to be unbelievable. *WARNING SPOILERS ALERT* How do you lose control Lion's Arch - the realm's capital and population center, and an ostensibly highly defensive position - when you still retain military superiority?! With military superiority why didn't you just take it back!? Who the heck fights a defensive siege by opening the front gates!? Who the heck sees the opponent do something as incredible as open the front gates, and then immediately commits men into the gap?! What happened to scouting and reconnaissance? Who sends in units one-by-one when there's a veritable mass of units in reserve, uncommitted? *END SPOILER ALERT*
Of course the previous quests were incredible as well ... Livia Blimm and Zinn kept running ahead of the team while the Mantle kept spawning behind the party. Then afterwards I was supposed to escort the Ascalonians away, except a fantastic mob of mantle spawned behind that I can't fight, and it was HM, so they all ran faster ... eventually they caught me, killed me and I respawned, but! Livia Blimm Zinn and co all managed to run to Lion's Arch. Lol! Kinda surprised the Mantle didn't just charge in after them, with the gates open and so on.

I guess that means that any characters with the Blankets for the Settlers quest line still active won't be able to complete it after finishing WiK then? I did wonder about that, thanks for mentioning it.

I don't get why the Ascalon Settlement is left empty. Weren't the Ascalonians going to go back there after the battle?

Just checked on a character that had not completed this quest. Quest still sends you to the settlement where Greywind was. Of course, he's not there anymore so you can't get the reward.
Now if I knew where he went, I might be able to turn it in. I'll probably end up just abandoning the quest eventually. Pity really, I had a mid level ally wanting a bow for a ranger just the other day. The reward bow would have been ideal for them.

Probably, but really people should finish all that stuff before they start WiK.

By the way, about the empty Ascalon Settlement, it is only empty if you have a WiK-related quest in your quest log. If you abandon them then go to the settlement, it is back to the way it used to be.

There is a lot of great dialog in LA after the battle. Make sure you talk to every NPC while you're there, including the ones that have automatic dialogs that trigger as you approach. Blimm is especially hilarious when he talks about the cake, and you shouldn't miss what Stephan wants to try drinking.
If you're going for cartography, there is a bonanza in store for you after the battle. There is not a single red dot anywhere in Riverside, D'Alessio, or Divinity Coast explorables if you don't have a Wanted bounty.
It does bother me that the undead are back in force in their usual areas, such as Cursed Lands. The Lich has been gone for years and the Mantle occupation should have cleared out anything that was left. Lorewise it makes little sense that Kryta still has an undead problem.
Edit: And the devs missed one Mantle banner. The other banners in LA were changed to Krytan royal banners, but the one on the lighthouse is still a Mantle banner.

Big big big lore fail But I guess they would have to completely change the spawns, adding new foes (impossible now) or filling Kryta with margoyles, tengus etc. only.
I'll better do all my krytian vanquishes before I do the battle, it seems, I don't really want to clear with undeads around.
